It has been an extremely busy few hours and we are not done yet! 40926 SEGA Genesis Console will be available from June 1st and follows last year's 40769 SEGA Genesis Controller.

The set includes 479 pieces and will cost £34.99, $39.99 or €39.99, which seems very reasonable.

How cool is that!?! I'd love to put that one right next to my Game Boy! :)
Please also release a SNES!

Oh Vienna...

By in United Kingdom,

Nice to have a set of this ilk that doesn’t cost silly money, even if some compromises are inevitable. It’s clearly not to scale with the original controller GWP, though.

By in United Kingdom,

Console looks great, but the controllers are off, shame they don't stand up to the GWP from last year that was a lot more accurate

By in United Kingdom,

Funny they've gone with the Genesis branding, when in the origional Japanese market, and in Europe, it was the Mega Drive. It was only the Genesis in North America.

The Genesis branding looks like a sticker, so maybe the sheet will also include an alternate Mega Drive one. Besides the branding, the consoles seem largely identical for both regions, so this would be an easy change (unlike the SNES, which had a wildly different (and imho much uglier) design in the US).

They were practically identical, and hopefully there is a different sticker for them. I meant more though, that given LEGO is a European brand, they'd choose and go with the US branding for a reveal.

By in France,

I wonder if you the Genesis branding is a swappable sticker indeed.
And if the instructions allow you to build either that Gen I original look or the Gen II look too now that would be brilliant

By in Netherlands,

That is a handsome-looking D-pad.

I liked the Megadrive well enough, even during the first Great Console Wars. Even though I fought and bled for Nintendo, every now and then I'd sneak out of the trenches to play some Sonic on a friend's console.

He'd also attempt to get me to play Street Fighter II on that ratty three-buttoned controller, and that was just never going to happen.

Lost a lot of good men and women in that war. When I close my eyes, I can still see their faces.

Anyway, cool set.

By in Australia,

It says '16-BIT' on the top, but there are quite clearly more than that. Jeez Lego do your homework!

The top photo in this article has the Mega Drive branding and the second photo has Genesis. I'd say it's a good bet the set comes with both sets of stickers.

Yeah, I saw leaked images on reddt this morning and on the back of the box they used Mega Drive branding. Shame this isn’t in scale with the GWP controller from last year though.

By in Sweden,

The console itself looks ok, but the controllers are really bad. They should have made the set a little bigger, and in scale with 71374.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Wow! That's neat! Too bad about the stickers though. And the missing ones on the A, B, C buttons and the missing Start button. The GWP controller was done better, albeit at a larger scale.

Beautiful. Another series of sets that I didn't get into.

I don't think they are in scale with each other.

By in United Kingdom,

Imagine making a model of a Sega game pad but it’s NOT the legendary Saturn pad? Then imagine doing it again …

Saturn 4 life!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

This one is a maybe or maybe more of a probably. Nice for showing it off with some Sonic minifigs

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Great price and looks like a nice substantial build!

If they’d increased the scale to fit with the previous gift with purchase, then people would have either complained that a) they released a set which featured a previous desired gift with purchase or b) the piece count and therefore price would increase and it would be ‘too expensive’.

Think I need to get back to Specsavers. Didn't notice the top photo had the different branding. Good thing they are including both.

By in Australia,

I’m really confused by the final photo that seems to show parts broken off randomly. Was that a feature of the original console?

Yeah, when you hit or drop the console hard enough!

It’s supposed to be an “in-progress” picture of the set being built.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Those controllers are awful…..especially after they gave us those solid GWP ones.

Gravatar
By in Spain,

Why the red buttons?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Can't wait! It was an obvious candidate, but so good to get it! Nice price. I'm in!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

For me nothing comes close to the original Atari VCS (2600) but this looks great and is cheap as chips... what's not to like!

Gravatar
By in United States,

There's no excusing those controllers, definitely not up to the standard set by the NES and the 2600. Not sure why they downscaled it, this should have been an easy grab, but I'm going to have to think about this one. Maybe we'll get a "UCS" version that meets expectations of the previous ones. And hopefully the SNES will get the same treatment to round out the lot (I say despite having been a TurboGrafx kid myself, sigh...).

Gravatar
By in Venezuela,

Finally for a good price

Gravatar
By in United States,

I wish this cost more to make it looked better

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I’m fairly confident that this isn’t the version of the Mega Drive my family had as our first console, which I’m mostly sure was a Mega Drive II, but it’s still *a* Mega Drive, and I very much want it. I’m very happy to see Sonic 2 on the cartridge, too. And the fun hidden picture inside.

I’m completely okay with it being funsize and affordable instead of granular-detail accurate and two hundred quid.

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

Now that is an amazing Easter Egg.

Gravatar
By in United States,

As a lifelong Nintendo fan, the Genesis is the only non-Nintendo console I own and play. And it’s not that I love paying a ton of money for sets, especially with Minas Tirith on the horizon, but this set is an absolute shame. It should have received the same amount of respect as the NES, Game Boy, and Pac Man Arcade. I’d have gladly spent $200 on a Genesis set, but this $40 set will look like a joke next to my other console sets and the great Genesis controller that I got as a GWP.

That's one of two reasons I won't be getting it. The other (and primary) reason is that I've never so much as touched a Genesis controller that I can remember, so have no nostalgic or sentimental attachment to the console.

By in United States,

Is this in scale with the NES?

71374 had 2,646 pieces and cost $269.99. This has 479 pieces and costs $39.99. I know 71374 was a bit undersized, but I don't think it was *that* undersized.

Gravatar
By in Portugal,

I hope someone makes a MegaDrive II MOC

Gravatar
By in United States,

Too small, price or not.. But its fine, if LEGO does not want my money they will not get it, they better hope more people do not start to feel that way.

Gravatar
By in Brazil,

It's sad that it is not available for pre-purchase on the LEGO website. I was looking forward to combining this with my Duck Family GWP purchase.
