Poor guy, he just wanted to play some fun soccer. And both times he tried he ended up matched against national teams! No wonder he never stepped onto the field again.

Actually, he won both games. He retired afterwards to explore an island full of dinosaurs as it seemed a bit more of a challenge.

Mmm, no. Lost 8-16 to Team USA, and 7-12 to Team Suspenders. And he doesn't seem to be materially contributing to the team's performance in either instance.

This is also how he came to know Johnny Thunder given they’re on the same team…and also playing against their doppelgängers

By in Australia,

LEGO really went through their own dark age in the late 1990s-early 2000s. These cursed minifigure heads really reflect the health of the company at the time.

I like these silly mini figure faces, the modern white eye spots were a mistake.

By in Netherlands,

Seeing this minifig lit up something in my brain. As it turns out a version of this figure with white pants was used on the cover of 5786 Soccer Mania. Back in the day lego was trying out all sorts of things and one of them was creating their own video games, of which Soccer Mania was one of them. I own a copy from a combo pack of three such games along with a 8736 Vakama Hordika. I played Soccer Mania once to try it out and I believe I beat the game back then. But for the vast majority of the time I would just see that combination CD case box art whenever I would stumble upon it. Hence why this fig reminded me of it.

If minifig faces still looked like this I wouldn’t buy Lego. Taste is so subjective.

And they travelled back in time from 2002 to 2000?

Not being the brightest of players, it took him five matches to work out that you don’t head the ball with your face :~S

I got a different software pack with Soccer Mania, the one mentioned in this review: https://brickset.com/reviews/36853 It didn't come with any Lego sets. Of the games in that pack, Soccer Mania and Chess were easily the ones I played the most. (I didn't even bother installing Lego Friends.)
