Today's random figure is rck007 Docs - Backpack, a Rock Raiders figure that came in one set, 3348 Mini Heroes Collection: Rock Raiders #2, released during 2000.

A fitting figure for today in the US! Happy Memorial Day, everyone! And I salute all of you who have lost anyone who has died in the service of their country.

Okay, but Docs is a miner. Some would say his team seems to be attacking the natives to get the gems.
Well, I guess it's fitting indeed.
Docs. Plural. So is this really two kids in a trenchcoat?
LORE TIME!
Docs is the Rock Raiders' geologist, demolitions expert, and doctor in residence. Holding the rank of commander, he directly leads the Rock Raiders expeditions on Planet U while answering to their captain, Chief. In the PS1 game, Docs has a fully-boosted radar and automatically recharges his shield with geothermal energy. With his trusty scanner, he'll search for Brickonium Energy Crystals and LEGO Ore; warn you know about seismic activities; identify dirt, loose rock, hard rock, and solid rock; and inform you whenever a new cavern has been discovered!
Bonus fun fact: in a preliminary document from Data Design Interactive, Docs' real name was listed as "Boris". This is not mentioned in any published materials.
@PurpleDave-RE: TTG!:
First; sorry, would’ve responded sooner; but works hours have been a bear, and used today’s ‘day off’ just to ‘get outta’ dodge’.
Next…Well…you know why they say “never assume”…Or let’s put it another way: Sesame Street and Scooby Doo (Where Are You) dropped upon the Earth ONE YEAR before I did (Translation: Mid-Tier Gen. X-er).
Also, never cared for ‘Go Teen Titans’ either; always thought WB/DC should have stuck with the Dini/Timm style (the DCAU style from B:TAS and forward), or at very least; the ‘style’ they used for ‘Static Shock’ (incidentally, and for the record: Super Friends was one of the best Superhero animated series, though not initially. Waaaay later into the series; after they added Cyborg, they also changed the art-style. Young Justice is the only other series I can compare that style to…).
Getting ‘back on track’; the fake-set in question (as pointed out by @ohrmazd) was based on “The New Teen Titans” from their comic reboot in 1980 (complete w/a red costumed Donna Troy ‘Wonder Girl’, and Beast Boy being called 'Changeling' again…)…and that’s not a bad thing:).
So, we good, or at least better?:)

He's wearing a pair of Docs. Doc Martens.
@brick_r:
I don't hate people based on their preferred entertainment (though TTG! really is a hilarious show). I can even get along with fans of the 66 series and Batman & Robin. But I do enjoy putting TTG! out on a layout and watching Millennials try to backtrack their excitement when they realize exactly which version of the Teen Titans they were getting all excited over.
Anyways, if it was based on the 80's comic book run, I guess that would mean it has to include Nightwing's...that.
Imagine if you bought this at the time, and left Collection 1 on the shelf cos it only had one fig and therefore sucked…
I bought a lot of minifigures on ebay today and he was in it. Weird.
I remembered this guy being pretty common across the Rock Raiders sets (even this guy technically being a one-off is because of the backpack not any printing) but looking at it all our heroes get a decent number of appearances spread across a few sets. That feels wild, I really don’t think modern themes do that, they just seem to give you one or two of the protagonists across a whole wave
I would pay gold for a full return of the Raiders.
@PurpleDave: Well...no, the set looks like it's about 1980 when the team...hmm, would that be a debut/or a reboot...anywho, Greyson didn't switch name and...gear (yeah, let's go with that:)) until 84', a short time before 'the Crisis' (THE...CRISIS...). Funny enough; yes, the first Greyson 'Nightwing' costume is...a choice, there is a version of it that's pretty cool: his 'Team Titans' version of the outfit ditches the collar, darkens the light blue sections, darkens the dark blue sections, and added glider-wings that were detachable...if he'd just had ditched that ponytail...:)
Lose rock.
HARD rock.
SOLID ROCK.
Dirt!

A new cavern has been discovered!
Rock Raiders was just slightly before my time, but the theme is so iconic that I can't help seeing this minifigure and smiling a little.

I didn't know what you were refering to, so I had to look it up. Holy moly, those prices of 3347...
Seeing Rock Raiders makes me a happy boy. That is all.
...
...okay not actually all, because I wanna ramble, but still!
Docs was never my favourite of the team, mostly because I liked the ones with the cool helmet moulds best, Sparks, Axel and Jet, but I still love anything to do with this theme even so. This is the "exclusive" version of Docs who has a backpack instead of a scarf: but I found I could make this version of his minifigure anyway, since I had him from 4930 and the backpack piece from the lady's raft in 2537, so I tended to vary up his appearance a bit when the mood struck me.
I also remember getting a friend both of those three-figure Rock Raiders minifigure packs for his birthday one year... both because he didn't have anything from the theme so I wanted to get him a whole set of the characters since I loved my 4930 so much... and also, I confess, to be a tiny bit petty since he was certain that Docs was Bandit and Bandit was Docs, and these packs specifically indicated which character had which name so I saw it as an effective way to correct him. Perhaps not the best motivation on my part, but I promise it was only a very small part of my reason for getting him them!
What I find mildly interesting is that this minifigure of Docs is actually slightly closer to his appearance in a lot of canon material than the 'standard' figure of him is. That isn't to say that he ever wears the backpack in any story material I've seen... but also, in most of it*, he doesn't wear his regular minifigure's scarf piece either; so this version displaying his full torso print, in a strange little way, feels almost more authentic to that version of him.
*That is, video game cutscenes, Lego Adventures magazine comics, High Adventure Deep Underground graphic novel. He does wear the scarf in the DK Puzzle adventure book (https://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.php?f=545860), but that was the only piece of Rock Raiders media I had as a child where he wore it...

According to a character bio I read somewhere (I stand corrected from the previous times I've cited this, I just checked and this fact is NOT actually from the graphic novel; I don't remember where I saw it but I'm certain it came from somewhere canonical), it's plural because he has multiple doctrates. One is definitely in geological science; it's anyone's guess what field his other(s) are in, since as far as I'm aware it never came up.

Hey, at least you didn't just get him a gag gift.

The real issue is that the characters receive redesigns every other wave, which is impossible to keep up with and makes their appearances seem rarer than they actually are (especially since they're always swapping out neck pieces).
Also themes tend to shove a single main character in EVERY set, so Mateo is in waaaay more Dreamzzz sets than he really should be lol
