Review: 77081 KIT

If we’ve learnt anything, it’s that cats rule the internet, and LEGO cats are no different. This set is a cat riding a motor-unicycle riding a mech—what’s more to say?! Kit, son of Meowscles, is a relatively niche character that translates well into the LEGO mech formula. Following the concept established by 77072 Peely Bone, the second in what is hopefully a growing line-up of Fortnite display statues has even more to offer.

Multi-functional features and unexpected detail make for an impressive play/display hybrid

Box & Contents
The box art follows the usual formula, this time depicting the beach biome. The rear images showcase the action and transformation features you can look forward to.
In the set there are ten paper bags, a large sticker sheet, and a single tyre. The associated rim piece was also loose in the box, but it fell out while opening and I forgot to photograph it.
Bonus Items
The bonus content is an outfit of Cate Meowdy, another member of the Meowscles clan. Buying the outfit from the Item Shop (launched in April 2025 and last available in April 2026) within Fortnite would set you back 1,200 V-Bucks, which is equivalent to about £10. Since players who don’t frequent LEGO Odyssey wouldn't use a furniture or item pack, the outfit expands the appeal of the set to Fortnite players who like physical LEGO models.

This is not a bad freebie, as you receive not only an outfit for LEGO Odyssey, but also for Battle Royale plus other game modes. Some fans may be frustrated not to receive a Kit outfit however, which was a battle pass exclusive in June 2020 and has not been available for purchase by other means since.
Characters
The single minifigure included here is a welcome surprise—although Fortnite sets often include specially moulded pieces, a head piece shaped like a kitten riding a motor-unicycle with so many detailed forms to its outline was not high on my list of likely upcoming new parts!
This time, despite the usual omission of the leg printing from the game version, corners weren’t cut on the arms: the detailed printing even has a yellow joint that is reflected on the model. The kitten mould sits atop the figure’s shoulders seamlessly. Unfortunately, the front headlight does cover a lot of the print beneath. I wonder if this area was required for clutch or balance of the mould, or was merely included to provide a system stud connection.
Under the cat is a complete print of the vehicle on both the front and back of the torso. To those unfamiliar, it might look like a high-tech spacesuit, diving gear or backpack, making these versatile pieces for custom character creation.
At full scale, the pilot is an adorable brick-built kitten, posed leaning forward to grasp the steering mechanism.
Built from the small first bag of parts, something like this could make for a nice polybag or in-store build activity! It's a shame the tail is not tipped with a Barraki eye piece. Unfortunately, the last new colour of that piece to be introduced was red in 2022.
As you’ll see later, I’m not a fan of stickers on curved elements, and this one doesn’t feel essential. The white sticker on a white piece only serves to negatively draw your attention to any colour discrepancies or poor placement.

Completed Model
Kit is holding a weapon which appears to represent the Power Claws pickaxe, using the dark green bladed spinner element previously introduced as leaves in the 10370 Poinsettia.
However, this pickaxe is only half of a dual-wielded set, which seems a bit of a shame. There are plenty of one-handed weapons in the game, even including a variant of this one called the Clawbber. Both hands have a pin connector in the palm, so you can mix and match accessories or build your own second pickaxe.
The stand is very similar to that of Peeley Bone, except for how it interlocks together. Each section here slots in satisfyingly with the wedge plates, and the base locks together with slender side-built final segments.
The light grey claws are attached on the front of the feet, simply resting gently on the tiles of the base not contributing to any structural support.
The slender legs don’t have any articulation, but compensate in detail. The black spoons completing the rear piston assemblies are an intricate non-essential detail. The introduction of the classic 1980s space wing piece in sand blue (four in total here) will be very warmly welcomed by certain Space fans. The only other time this piece has been recoloured since 2000 was light bluish grey in 2011, so I can’t imagine many were expecting this one!
There is no articulation at the waist either, but there is a 2x2 ridged knob on the rear of the hips which activates the tyre spin action. This is a bit slow and somewhat underwhelming as a feature. Also, when handling the model it is all too easy to knock off the fishbone number plate, which takes part of the red rear light with it.
If you look closely, you can see the drawback to applying stickers to curved elements. It didn’t take long for the corners to begin lifting.
Even worse, I am deeply disappointed that stickers are still being used on doubly curved pieces. Within this theme this mistake has been made before, such as with 77078 Mecha Team Leader’s feet. At least here the fish decal is much smaller and so chances of smooth application are increased—and it’s a very versatile sticker that might be useful in custom builds so some fans may opt not to apply it at all.
The arms do have fairly standard articulation, allowing a variety of poses using shoulder, elbow and wrist movement. The fingers can wrap around a handheld weapon or accessory, although this is actually held on by a Technic connection in the palm as is often the case. The box art shows another option to remove the arms, which makes the vehicle easier to ‘drive’, but this is not particularly easy to do with the high clutch power of these ratcheting joints.
The entire motor-unicycle can be lifted off the mech body to play with or display separately. This is a very simple action, as the two parts are not deeply connected—long axles attached to the vehicle slot down inside similarly long receiving elements. When it is lifted off, these tubes are left behind slightly awkwardly on the abandoned body.
There’s plenty of room in the cockpit, so a variety of other brick built characters could fit here. Furthermore, some slight modifications could carry some minifigures to pilot what would be a comically large vehicle at that scale.
I was especially pleased to get a spare of the kitten mouth printed tile here. This is a great piece for a MOC, and the colour matches my own cat’s white chin… Ideas are brewing!
Size Comparisons
This mech stands tall, at a very similar height to 77072 Peely Bone, and the two sets share the same price point, which feels reasonable from this distance. The consistent plaques and bases also make for an enjoyable matching pair.
77078 Mecha Team Leader is bigger in both stature and physique. While both are representations of in-game skins, the larger one is also a representation of a giant robot so it’s reasonable that it is built at a slightly different scale, and doesn’t follow the same display stand formula.
Conclusion
As we established with Peely Bone, the £90 price mark is remarkably reasonable compared to other themes. This set compares well to its predecessor, as not only does it integrate a dual display/play function, it resolves my main complaint about the former in that it now contains a minifigure.
The minifigure is excellent, but it depicts something very few LEGO Fortnite players are likely to own, having only been available in summer 2020’s battle pass. I felt taunted by the awesome minifigure that I may never be able to play as in the game. Hopefully, this signals the re-release of the Kit outfit—the developers have been removing the previously strict block on reissuing past battle pass exclusive cosmetics in recent times.
Admittedly, the market may be relatively niche for this set, but the design is well executed and includes an unusually intricate minifigure, even for the precedent set by other Fortnite minifigures so far. If you admire this character or just think that a kitten riding a motor-unicycle riding a mech is too cool to pass up, now’s your chance!

I don't care one bit for Fortnite, but just on its own merits, Peely Bone was a set I have considered buying quite a few times. And if I hadn't already had way too many other sets I still have to build while running short on display space, I certainly would have. This one though......sorry, this just feels like a mess to me, and seems way to bulky compared to that image from the game. One for Fortnite fans only I guess.
The cat is cute though....
Smoosh Mitzi, Purrl, and Rover from Animal Crossing into one cat, and you'd get something like Kit.

The colour scheme is both bland and muddled; nothing sticks out, and it’s very unattractive as a display piece. It’s the Lego equivalent of mixing all your paints together.

I really like so many of these FortNITE sets and this one looks super fun. Great review @SetToBuild. PPP is great and who doesn’t love a large mech? I can’t wait to see 77081 Kit battle my 80012 Monkey King Warrior Mech! :o)

This is something I've struggled to understand about Fortnite's promo efforts. For instance Drift has been one of their most popular characters, having received several reskins in-game, and in the LEGO world, having not just a minifig in 77073 but a Brickhead too (40884). His design even made a guest appearance in Destiny 2, another extremely popular game. And that part makes sense, because it's definitely one of their coolest skins, both in design and how it gains new parts as it levels up. The part that doesn't make sense is that Drift, having been a battle pass skin, has not been available since 2018. Even that Destiny crossover happened in 2022. So with all of this media showing off all these characters that people won't get to see in the game if they haven't played it for numerous years already, what kind of attention are they exactly trying to draw? Very confusing thing.
And yeah, kinda weird that they didn't give him both halves of his pickaxe, or even the two-handed version. Would've made for some cooler posing than just a singular pinwheel thing.

Thank you for reference photo as was totally confused as to what this was meant to be, apart from some kids mech mash-up.
I have nothing with Fortnite, but could not pass this wacky cat mech, 0 regret.
