Random set of the day: Space Police Central

Today's random set is 5985 Space Police Central, released during 2010. It's one of 5 Space sets produced that year. It contains 631 pieces and 5 minifigs, and its retail price was US$79.99 / £59.99, which equates to about US$120 / £93 in today's money.
It's owned by 1,580 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you should find it for sale at Brick Owl, BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $347.40, or eBay.

Precinct 78, first year of LEGO Space. Nice little callback. Probably should have been for when Space Police was introduced though, which would have been 1989.
One of my favorites as a kid! Such a great playset.
The use of two cowcatchers as part of the radar array is so very NPU.

This set is awesome! Space Police was almost entirely vehicles, so it was nice to have a base. And what a base! There's a central communication room, prison block, cafetaria, shooting range, scooter launch platforms and a garage. The garage has a beautifull done sideway garage door btw. The truck is also one of only three wheeled SP3 vehicles and it works perfectly as a pod transport. And Craniac's flyer isn't super unusual but the colors are nice, the design is nice and it even has an insectoids shoutout, as does his torso. Craniac's gun with axe head is cool too! There's a second one in the evidence locker, which is a cool inclusion. Btw, this set has a sniffer frog! Such an... interesting bit to include XD
The set also just looks great. The overall shape is aesthetically pleasing and distinct. Furthermore, those cowcatchers for the radar is fun, those white fences are brilliant and those trans dark blue Paradisa large quarter dome panels are beautiful, as are the other trans dark blue windows. The red lights at the edges of the baseplates tie everything together. Oh, and baseplates!!!
Craniac is a nice figure btw. One of my favourites of the theme!
The other figs are nice too. Jawson is in literally every summer 2010 SP3 set, but the commando is great and has a very uncommon face. And the chief has black epaulettes, which is just perfect!
Overall, a great set for the theme to tie the rest together more and a good playset as a whole. Very happy to own one :D

I still have this together along with a good chunk of the SPIII collection. Such great sets!

A more than worthy successor to 6955, which I also had. (Why didn't SP2 get a base?)

Space Police 3 was almost perfect. The major downer (beyond being, well, a cop theme, and the dated gender balance) was the cops=legosians/humans, criminals=aliens thing, which was, well, unfortunate connotations-wise and also a lot less fun than having a mix of minifigs throughout. The builds themselves are almost all bangers, this one included.
Uh... what is the shape of the speeder bike that the skull alien is riding on?
Love Space Police 3 to bits. One of if not my favourite orignal Lego themes.

I loved the space crafts and aliens in SP3. They were perfect, reminded me of the classic era. It would have been nice if some Blacktron accompanied this theme.
Got this set in a bulk lot, three pieces missing, but all three big trans dark blue.

A plus shape with two equal lengths. The sides also have the trailing flames.
...and yes, I originally built it wrong with the engines further in the back. But they're apparently placed in the middle.
I get what you might bw thinking of. Those round engines make it look a bit like a-
Some well designed space hoppers and alien craft with only appearance of Craniac alien mini-fig. The interiors of the command room and break-out room with coffee machine are well done, the garage is a bit empty although the sliding garage door is clever. There is also a shooting range, which is probably a first (and last) for a space set.

The Netherlands is mostly below sea-level. These days, we recruit straight from Atlantis and R'lyeh.
And that might sound frightening, but if we've shown anything during the last World Cup it's that we're really more suited for water polo than for The Soccers anyway.

I remember finding the scuzziness the stop-motion shorts gave them compelling when I was a kid. It's good to start teaching children about the flaws of their institutions early.

The original '89 Space Police only seemed to go after black(tron) astronauts, so they were definitely particular with whom they arrested -- and we don't even know on what charges other than belonging to a certain group.
Set's nice, though.

Oh, I wasn’t saying the Dutch need to be punished. I was saying it sounds like you’re implying that being Dutch _is_ the punishment.
What a great theme! I love Space Police III and its unique aliens. I regularly use some of them in Star Wars mocs. This was back when we didn't really have accessible Internet, and the catalogs neglected to show most sets from this wave. I didn't know about this set's existence until years later.
Regarding the set itself, it's a neat set! I love bases and it has some unique parts to it, especially the trans blue Paradisa canopies.
