Random set of the day: Racing Car

Today's random set is 1693 Racing Car, released during 1992. It's one of 27 Town sets produced that year. It contains 26 pieces.
It's owned by 866 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you should find it for sale at Brick Owl, BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $59.00, or eBay.

Ghost car!
According to the database, this is the same set as 1461, which has been RSotD before (https://brickset.com/article/99932), but 1461 had a minifig.

No one has ever discovered what happened to Blacktron racing cars 1, 2, and 3.

A colorscheme both befitting Blacktron and Batman, who have had recent Random Figure entries
They forgot the T on the end of car.
It's so simple I used to build similar racercars in different colors and race them. Fun times.
Engine and steering but no accelerator or brakes. You just let that thing go and hope you can rein it in!
1693 jumped the speed trap and gets pursued by 1610.
For what is clearly on a shoestring budget, this set does alright. You get a print, for one. And the bare hinges using the open studs to represent engine cylinders is quite effective, not to mention creative. The coloration is also striking enough to give it some presence.
Not one I'd go out of my way to look for, but as a freebie I wouldn't complain. Unless you feel cheated out of a minifig driver.
Not sure why this set didn't have a minifig; it was later included in a value pack (1900-2, image here: https://img.bricklink.com/ItemImage/SN/0/1900-1.png), and the other three sets all had minifigs.
My brother had the polybag version with the minifig, I believe it was a gift for joining the Lego Club back when there was an entry fee. I always thought the car was rather elegantly designed.
Considering the lack of a driver and a rear wing, as well as the uncovered engine, I can't help but feel this is just 1631 that crashed backwards into the barriers.

Weird. I literally rebuilt this car from a bulk lot this month.

I remember I saw one of these in a tiny, local toy shop in the mid 90s. I love finding sets, like that, that have held on for a long time before being bought. But I didn't get it, and I was really sad about it.
Lucky, 2886 came out very soon after that, so all's well that ended well.

They've had several for most numbers I think. And 6395 probably had them all.
