Top Gear Trailer in LEGO

Posted by ,

The trailer for the latest series of Top Gear has been given an unusual twist, with the entire thing rendered in LEGO! The style is much like that of the Exo-Suit teaser from last year which is no surprise as both were produced by Chris Salt, with models in the video created by Peter Reid, Jeremy Williams and Craig, a LEGO employee.

If you watch carefully you might spot some Speed Champions sets in the studio and during the opening titles sequence. The Speed Champions theme does not appear to have any Top Gear or BBC endorsement but perhaps we will hear of further developments later in the year.

Might this hint at a partnership between LEGO and Top Gear like the one rumoured towards the end of 2014?

Always refreshing to know there's new sets you won't have to spend any money on.

That's one thing I like about Lego's diversity, it isn't a "gotta have them all" type of toy.

Good. More profits for the BBC. How it should be. Now cut the cost of the licence fee.

Um, is BBC Top Gear adding more "hosts"? I know the US and Australian versions have three, but the BBC one last I saw only had one...

And here I thought it was about the Jets Top Gun (Tom Cruise).

@Sprinkleotter - the BBC one has had three (or, at least, multiple concurrent) hosts since the 70s. The current three have been presenting for about 13 years...

It may just be a partnership to advertise the SpeedChampions sets, but I'm okay with being wrong if we get a real Top Gear set!

I hate to say it because I love TG as a programme, but give me the Drome any day! It was a simpler time, when pull-back motors were all the rage and car designs were crazy and futuristic. Speed champions are well designed, but it's not quite the same. This does however bode well for BBC-affiliated Lego in general ie Doctor Who.

Man I would love to have official minifigs of Clarkson, Hammond, and May. There's a reason it's the greatest show on the planet.

If they do make figures of the presenters I wonder if they'll have to make extra short legs for Hammond?

Anybody else notice the lack of the Lego logo on the studs?

^ Yes, and I should imagine that's because the BBC doesn't advertise. Even though it's clear for all to see that it's a LEGO advert.

How awesome is that? I love it! (both TG & the upcoming SpeedChampions) (:

I enjoyed that. There's always something about Lego animation that adds extra humour into a situation!

@CCC, Wrong I'm afraid. Top Gear is owned by the BBC (Worldwide just distributes it). And as for BBC Worldwide itself, well that is wholly owned by the BBC anyway - and its entire purpose is to commercialise and monetise BBC output to supplement the licence fee. Some of us think its profits should partially replace the fee.

I'd love a Jeremy Clarkson minifig, though I can see some environmental and other interest groups protesting against the very idea. Bad influence on children, endorsement of his controversial views (in their minds), and all that. I guess the Hammond minifig should have the shorter legs? ;o)

And a Stig minifig? Oh my....

Two of my absolute favorite things, together! Peterlmorris, you are right - Top Gear is the greatest show on the planet for a reason.

Haha. But it would be nicer (and more accurate) with the black contrasts and faint stitching marks in the racing suit.

Never ceases to amaze me at how many grumbles there are when news is shared on this site. My wife thinks I'm one of the grumpiest people alive but I'm not a patch on some of the folk here!

Liked the video. Top Gear is light entertainment. LEGO in any form is mega!

As for the BBC and TV licence, well, even if the BBC was shut down altogether, the British government would still sting us for a licence fee one way or another. It's a grievance that ain't gonna go away so no point whining about it on a LEGO fan site :-)
