New discounts at Amazon.com

- 30% off 7050 Space Alien Defender, now just $6.99 (a saving of $3.00 on the RRP)

You really have to limit theses "discounts" to items sold by Amazon.

$6.18 each. Double price.
^ If you exclude 3rd party sellers from consideration on Amazon.com then you immediately limit yourself to only about a third of all the LEGO available; furthermore, many 3rd party items are fulfilled by Amazon and therefore ship free. So excluding 3rd party sellers is a bad idea.
The system is usually able to factor shipping into the equation, but only when shipping costs are listed (which they weren't initially in the example above). Amazon listings can literally change minute to minute, so always check carefully before ordering (which you obviously did...)
Probability of 3rd party merchant selling something at 30% less retail price AND ships free is miniscule. Perhaps you can allow filtering out 3rd party sellers.

The system did actually factor in shipping costs: having looked at the raw data for 8805, when it was fetched at 6pm, the shipping was $0, but at midnight it was back up to $4.99.
So, the moral of the story is, buy quickly!
