Bracket for LEGO Ideas Projects set to Expire

Posted by ,

In 37 days, LEGO Ideas will be one year old. This means that, among other things, around 5,000 projects will be wiped clean from the system as the one year deadlines for a project to reach 10,000 are enforced for the first time.

There are still plenty of great projects that deserve to get reviewed but their time is running out. In the service of promoting some of these stand out projects I have generated a bracket of 64 select projects representing some of the fastest growing, most supported, and most interesting projects set to expire.

Currently we are in round one with 32 matches to vote on. I am rather curious to see which projects float to the top. Please add your preferences to the results and of course, if you see something you like, make sure to give the project your support on LEGO Ideas as well.

I am going to investigate into these Ideas. Hopefully a few will get to the Spring Review...

But it's rather unlikely, unless "The Brickset Effect" strikes. ;-)

I can't believe you put Galaxy Command against Monty Python. Unfair!

@ Umbra-Manis:

For round one, The projects have been paired based on their rate of support since being published. So, of the 64, Daft Punk has the highest rate of support and Wallace and Gromit the lowest, Warsaw City Bus has the second highest support and Microfig Mechas the second lowest. This process was continued throughout.

Many of my favorite projects are set to get crushed...The hardest for me was seeing Food Truck paired with Medusa...I love both of those projects...

Voted.

Doesn't Mr. Stay Puft count as a license currently held by LEGO?

Also, The Brick Fan is reported three new LEGO books set to come out late this year... two of which are the ones we suggested additions to in the comments here. Hopefully they credit the site for helping out...

It looks like the Ambulance might go up against the Accessibility set in the losers bracket. Keep on the lookout for a "Malpractice Lawyers" set, soon to follow.

Also, great idea Glen! The March Madness timing is impeccable for those that have already lost out on their NCAA brackets this past weekend :)

Quite a few surprises in there.

I was always a fan of the Medieval Travelling Theater, it just seemed made for a one-off set that could tie into their existing theme.

Where can I find the specific criteria for the Ideas that will be axed come Lego Idea's Birthday?

@PicnicBasketSam

Yes, that is why he is one the list of projects that were eliminated from being selected in the 64 for the bracket.

@Penkid11

It is the Day's left field. Every project now has 1 year to reach 10,000 supporters. With the projects in Cuusoo, they were grandfathered in and all given 1 year starting from the first day of Ideas.

Having visited the 'Art of The Brick' exhibition and seen some of Nathan's miniature 'sculpts' for sale at ridiculous prices, I'm a little puzzled as to why Nathan's submitted 'Small YELLOW' on Ideas?

@glenbricker, thanks for putting one of my Ghibli projects up there! Surprised to see Castle in the Sky rather than Howl's Moving Castle, but much appreciated nonetheless. Not going down without a fight...

Broke my heart to see Pingu losing out to Settlers of Catan... Great idea though!

Really quite disappointed that the "Adventures of Steamrod" project most likely won't make it to 10,000 in that time. It got 1,000 votes in less than 3 months when it first appeared, but since then has been largely stagnant at less than 3,000. What happened?

Of course, the fact that it's a largely original concept (albeit with some wonderful references to the cast of LEGO Adventurers) makes it less easy to promote than, say, the lackluster "Big Bang Theory" project.

Unfortunately, this supports my hypothesis that the new policy will make it harder for original ideas to reach review. They need more time to gather the audience that the IP-based projects already have. After all, Hidaka's piano has been on the site since 2008 and took six years to finally reach 10,000. It would never have stood a chance if it only had 365 days.

Voted. I'm sad that Galaxy Quest was paired with Monty Python, as both would be REALLY GREAT! The Food Truck is absolutely amazing, as is Settlers of Catan. The Galaxy Quest one would provide some really amazing minifigures for the future, and Monty Python would from the past.... I wish we could choose both :-P

I like the initiative it seems fairly random; both the short list of 64 and the pairing.
And what on earth is the leaning tower doing in this list? That's already a set!

I'm disappointed with your selection of a train set. While the narrow gauge train is cute, the train project that really needs support is James Mathis' Super Mega Steam Power Train Builder Production:

Cool idea to put this together! Will be following and voting and checking these projects out.

Ah this is a neat little concept. Nice to see a more light hearted debate.
There are some truly wonderful Ideas in that list. I found it very difficult to vote one over the other on a few. I couldn't help notice the popularity of the 'modular' sets. There were some real surprises in the voting, in my opinion anyway.

Is this "bracket" term some American sports terminology or something? As a computer programmer, it's confusing me :-)

I just fell in love with the Narrow Gauge Engine, as well as that little mini Batmobile!

By in Denmark,

This is awesome to see, and a great way to celebrate some of the lesser publicised project on ideas. Although it's a shame to see so many great projects retire next month. Good Luck to all included.

Also, thanks to all those supporting the Narrow Gauge Steam Engine!

Great idea, this is fun! Only been lliking and supporting ideas for a couple of months now and nice to find some great sets here. Voted and supported the first half (the ones I liked anyway), going to do the rest of the list tomorrow . I really hope done of these sets manage to get there in their last month...

By in France,

Thank you Glenbricker! Excellent idea as it gave me the opportunity to support sets I haven't heard of before. It's a shame though that it probably comes too late for some fantastic projects which won't reach the 10,000 votes.

@Glenbricker, this is a great idea! I'd love to see more posts from you like this. Maybe you could use themed brackets. For instance, have a bracket of vehicle ideas, another one for small structures, another for historical ideas, and yet another for licensed "borrowing" ideas, etc. This would help broaden the scope of your blog.

As I've been continually watching the "Days remaining" counter drop on Ideas, I'm very glad to see you call attention to the impending loss of projects.

I think it'd be better if they eliminated only the projects under 5,000, and gave the surviving projects one more year to make 10,000.

Here are some solid projects that aren't on the bracket:

Great Big Mining Truck - https://ideas.lego.com/projects/36314

Starfox Assault Arwing - https://ideas.lego.com/projects/1702

Christmas / Holiday Gingerbread House - https://ideas.lego.com/projects/37781

Tower Robbery - https://ideas.lego.com/projects/39885

Antigravity Armored Raider - https://ideas.lego.com/projects/55846

Glen, you should do this every month, featuring the projects that are set to expire in each month.

By in United Kingdom,

Interesting the way the sets are paired. With some choices I liked both, and with some I liked neither. Had I been asked for my top 32 from the 64, the results would have been different. But that's statistics for you.

This might be off topic but, have you seen the raptor escape images?

That is clearly off topic. And, no.
