Review: Mixels Series 6 Munchos
Posted by TheBrickPal,
Now that the Glorp Corp cousins are done with, what tribe is next in Series 6 of the wonderful world of Mixels?
Well, for those who really enjoyed the food theme of Series 2's Fang Gang, LEGO has answered your pleas: Munchos. No, not that chip brand by Frito-Lay. I mean Vaka-Waka's super awesome crew; with a chipmunk, a basket, and Vaka-Waka himself. You can thank Mixels Wiki member Derekis for that name.
The Munchos are big eaters (and chatters) who inhabit a land full of giant food. Nothing could possibly be better than that! The tribe as a whole delivers tons of greatness that you will discover when you click the "continue reading" link below.
41551 Snax
Snax is a wide-eyed kid with a serious appetite. Those chubby cheeks, no doubt based on a chipmunk's, are hollow, with an opening in the mouth in order to store food inside! A few objects that resemble cupcakes are also included to achieve that.
The Munchos are accented with lavender, and Snax here uses the most of his tribe; twelve pieces! MOCists will surely be pleased.
Unfortunately, Snax suffers what our friend Snoof in Series 5 also suffered: exposed studs on his neck. This, to me, is his only fault. However, he is my least favorite of the Munchos. Don't fret, though: he is still a big treat!
41552 Berp
Berp is the greedy food blender Muncho. A Mixel of many talents, he is both a waiter and a juggler! A juggler of food, that is. Berp's four arms are designed so that they can be spun around very easily. And with two points of articulation in those arms, he can be posed with ease! Four pairs of cherries are included for Berp to hold in his hands... or his mouth!
At only five pieces, Berp has the least lavender of him and his brothers. But he makes up for it with the barrel piece in that color; before this set, it had only appeared in Friends and Elves sets!
Berp is also the Mixel of his tribe to include a dastardly Nixel. With cat ears and bar feet, this is my favorite of 2015's three Nixel redesigns. But you may wonder, what is the reason why LEGO changed the Nixel designs this year? Dear reader, you will find out in my next review...
41552 Vaka-Waka
Conjoined Mixel twins sent to warn us of our imminent destruction. The Destroyer. Odd couple. Fat purple hippo. These Mixels have worn many titles.
Rotten fish heads. Battery acid. Traffic cones. Soda cups. These Mixels have eaten many things.
Out of all of the Series 6 Mixels, and ever since leaked set names, Vaka-Waka has received the most attention. Their name and outlandish appearance has stolen the hearts of many fans. Similar to Series 4's Nurp-Naut, this Mixel has two personalities in one. Vaka handles the input (eating) of food, and Waka handles the... output (digestion?) of it, whether he likes it or not.
Whatever you insert into Vaka's mouth, such as the candies included, can be seen through the glass of "stomach head" Waka. And speaking of Waka, he doesn't look very happy, does he? I'm sure you wouldn't be either, if you had to go through what he has to do every day...
While the duo is my favorite of the Munchos, they are not without their faults. Vaka-Waka has the average range of poseability expected from a Mixel, which isn't much. He is also right in the middle of the Munchos in terms of amount of lavender included. Yet, with these faults, I still love the set a lot. They may even be some of my favorite Mixels of all time.
Verdict
The Munchos are absolutely fantastic. Each of them exhibit a LOT of personality, and I dare say that they slightly beat the Weldos as my favorite tribe of this series. I also greatly appreciate the lavender that can normally only be found in "girl" sets. Although their general theme has already been used in Mixels before, I still find them very unique.
Join me one final time this year when I look over the main tribe of Series 6: the construction workers of Planet Mixel, the Weldos!
Thanks to Huw for the photos.

Well done, really gotta get started with building these guys. X3
I was least inspired by this tribe from the pre-release pictures, but since building them, they've grown on me.
It would be a nice addition to see the Maxes in the reviews - the Munchos Max is very much a bigger version of Vaka-Waka, with a big enough mouth and stomach to swallow a Nixel whole - and a rear hatch mechanism for getting swallowed contents out!
Glad you're a Mixel fan of the LEGO theme and the show! I think the next Nixel is King Nixel (or is it King Nix?). I heard before that there's going to be one of him this year. (or is that a past Mixel?) I'm confused!
Yay! Mixels, totally going to get Vaka Waka, and one of the Weldos
Wish they had more Nixels, even though I don't have one from this series.
This tribe is amazing for parts...had to buy them just for some more random lavender/purple parts.
I wasn't gonna buy these ones, but now I really really really want that lavender barrel.
@BRICK_BUDDY King Nixel's base model is indeed included in Wuzzo. I'll get to him and his congregated form in my Weldos review.
From fav to least fav - Vaka-Waka, Snax, Berp
Fang Gang is tooth/biting themed :)
I love the Munchos! They were quite adorable in the show! Especialy Waka-Vaka!
Byt I think Berp is my favorite! It's a MIXELMIXER!
Giant Vaka-Waka? What's not to love there?
These are not bad at all, although I've seen more creative. *cough*Weldos*cough*
Nice review, made me add my first ever Mixels to this mornings 2x order for use in Advent calendar.
I love mixels, but will give these a miss. I am one of the few people on earth who cannot stand purple... :)
I can't wait to get this whole tribe (naturally to take apart for all that delicious dark purple and lavender). I've seen a couple of the new series here but none of it otherwise. Still didn't get the last frosticons (for all the dark azure , which I used in one of my B4-HA war droid models) from the last series , so that and these are my next mixel purchases.
