LEGO officially addresses WALL•E's head swivel
Posted by TheBrickPal,
From the Ideas blog:
"Dear LEGO Fans,
In order to make the LEGO Ideas set 21303 WALL·E as fun as the character in the movie, we created the model with the ability to turn his head all the way around. Since the model has been launched we have received feedback from fans who feel WALL·E’s head moves a bit too freely. Feedback from our fans is very important for us and we’ve decided to take their advice and make some improvements to the set. Our designers are currently working on some small changes to the model. Therefore the LEGO Ideas Set 21303 WALL·E is currently not available at shop.LEGO.com and in some LEGO Stores. Once the reworked version of the model has been finalized LEGO WALL·E will make a full return. For the latest updates on availability, please visit WALL·E on shop.LEGO.com.
If you've already purchased your LEGO Ideas WALL·E:
It is very important to us that fans have a great building and playing experience with all our sets and we appreciate feedback to improve our sets. Our Customer Service can answer questions on existing models and can be reached via LEGO.com/service.
If you have any more questions, please contact LEGO Customer Service and let us know if there’s anything we can do to help you further."
The expected ship date is now December 05, but that could be subject to change. Please do read our review to see if this set interests you enough to purchase after the problem is rectified.

the "If you've already purchased your WALL-E" section is pretty much saying nothing. Are they going to ship upgrade kits to existing owners or not?
^ I'd say contact customer service and they'll be more than happy to help with that. It even says to do so in that section.
Glad I've waited. Good to see them addressing the issue and listening to their customers.
oh dear....
@dougts I e-mailed them a week or 2 back advising of the issue and got an e-mail saying very much the same as what it says above, followed by "if you could please email me back with your postal address, I’ll get back in touch as soon as the new solution’s available." So I'm assuming that's a yes. Drop them an e-mail - they're usually really helpful.
^ yeah, it's just a time-intensive PITA to do. for a mass issue like this, put up a webform, let people fill it out, then mail them their parts pack. at the very least, SAY "contact us and we will send you the parts". but it doesn't say that, it says "contact us and give us feedback or ask questions".
ok, i emailed them. not as bad as i thought - figured I would have to call them by phone, which is a PITA.
still think they should say up front "do X and we will ship you the parts when ready"
Agreed, it would be good if they did that. Then again, I guess they'd need some kind of screening process to avoid folks claiming free parts who haven't bought the set....
And, what about those of us that have already purchase the Wall-E neck fixing?
And what about those of us who didn't become Hollywood actors or rock stars?
and what about those of us who have already fixed the neck and are paying for an intensive course of physiotherapy...huh? huh? https://flic.kr/p/yfGne4

Here's what Lego customer service just replied to me:
Dear XXXXX,
I’m really sorry you’re having problems your LEGO® Ideas set 21303 WALL·E. What a pain in the neck! Literally! We’ve found that two pieces in the neck don’t have the right amount of clutch power. The combination of these pieces is causing WALL·E’s head to fall down instead of staying where it should.
Right now, I am sending you the pieces to make WALL·E better. They’re being sent on order number XXXXXXXXXX and will arrive by mail in 7-10 business days.
When you receive the new pieces, you'll use them to replace the 2x 4211695 used on page 34 and the 2x 4265484 used on page 29.
We try really hard to make sure all LEGO toys are perfect, but we know we can always do better. Controlling the quality of the toys that leave our factory is a big job and we spend a long time trying to get it right. We really appreciate your feedback. This should fix the problem, but if you have any other issues please let us know.
We want to make sure we're doing a good job for you, so you’ll always find the link to a four-question survey in our emails. Please tell us how we did today:
Kind regards and happy building!
Sincerely,
XXXXXXX

They're using the element ID for part identification? Helpful.
And I still maintain the position that it was a good plan to wait...
Hubris thy name is Lego. They call it "feedback from fans". I'd call it "complaints from customers".
I'm really glad. I love the idea of this set and I really want to be able to buy it, and (after a year when I spent an absurd amount of money on so many great sets), the neck issue was totally a deal-breaker for me.
I'll wait until the New Year, then of course, there'll be a fight, but at least the neck issues will be fixed.
So glad I waited, seems like TLG got enough 'feedback' from fans on this issue to warrant a fix. The issue was a deal-breaker for me, but now they're fixing it, I'll definitely be getting one.
Still sounds ominous the way they say "we created the model with the ability to turn his head ALL THE WAY AROUND" (emphasis mine). I'm expecting a backpedal too far in the opposite direction.
Unrelated, what's up with the scammer post? Get that nonsense out immediately!
Hmmm. I placed an order for him not that long ago when it said "arriving in feb". I assume that will end up being the "corrected" version.
All this trouble with Wall-E must be because he was a super hyped Ideas set. If it weren't so damaging to publicity I doubt TLG would make such a big deal over a design flaw.
The reply above mentions replacing parts 4211695 and 4265484 . I hope that's not the fix as they aren't the problem; it's the pivot that's the issue, not the hinges!
^Well... not entirely. There was a problem with those hinges too, in some sets (I believe mainly in the US). There was a fix for that already and I think Zany4 got the mail that adresses that problem. So Zany4, if you wanted to solve the free swiveling problem of your Walle, I think you'll have to mail them again...
edit: the hinge problem is mentioned in this article http://brickset.com/article/16465/what-s-wrong-with-21303-wall•e
Wall-E is available on the Hungarian LEGO.com again.
It is available in Italy too.
Does someone knows if this is a fixed version?
It was also available in Portugal.
What other problems has plagued the WALL-E Lego model?
I was at a Lego store in southern California yesterday and they had WALL-E on the shelf, an employee said that they were told to remove them 2-3 weeks ago, and then a few days ago were told that they could sell them, he said that they were told the "neck problem" was not on all sets and so they could sell the ones they had previously taken off the shelf. Sounds to me like they are just trying to sell the original version before the fixed one comes out. A friend of mine bought one, I'll ask him if it came with the "2x 4211695 used on page 34".
I possibly have a bit of info on this... I contacted Lego about it a few weeks back and they said they'd let me know "when a solution is available". I today received a mysterious e-mail advising my Bricks & Pieces order has been despatched, except I haven't ordered anything from them. The parts they are sending are 2 x Part no. 4211695 - BRICK 1X4 FRIC/STUB/FORK VERT. and 2 x Part no. 4265484 - BRICK 1X2 W/STUB VERTICAL END. I can only think these are the "solution"...
