Disney Minifigures: 18 characters?
Posted by TheBrickPal,It has been something of a slow news week in the world of LEGO so far, but an interesting detail of next year's Collectable Minifigures range has been revealed today.
Brick Pirate reports that instead of the usual 16 minifigures to collect, the upcoming 71012 Disney Series, to be released in May, will include two additional ones - 18 overall! I wonder who might be included...

Could this be the opening needed to bring the various Disney universes into LEGO Dimensions? Dimensions is supposed to be a three year program at this point and adding the various Disney worlds into regular Minifigs may really open up the options for worlds.
this will be interesting not sure what to make of it but i would rather have a non true minifies series like marvel or star-wars they have been holding of on doing these type of things but i am glad they have decided to do it!
Now this is a very interesting development! Looking forward to it.
I hope there's a Mickey Mouse minifig :D
Its sad but I kind of hope Disney Infinity tanks so they partner up with Lego, but lets be honest, Disney are more likely to try and BUY Lego haha
^^ Highly likely.
^ Waiting for that day!
But will these be Minifigures, or Minidolls to match the Friends-scaled dolls?
I'm really surprised to see this news take so long to filter through considering your own database lists 18 figures for this release.... :)
@covecollectable - No, there's no way we'll be getting Disney characters in LEGO Dimensions. Disney Infinity is the reason. It's a direct competitor.
@Matty8241 - Disney infinity is not tanking any time soon. They're bigger than they ever have been right now, actually. With having Marvel and Star Wars, it appeals to a lot of kids. A quick search on YouTube shows it's pretty popular.
^^ Huw must have added them earlier today.
Edit: Upon further inspection, that's for Series 15 (January) The entries are numbered 0-18. And three of those entries are for a full set, a box, and a random pack. So that's still the normal number of minifigures.
OMG NO!
Why is LEGO always finding new ways to get my money out of my wallet????
@legomaniac, a LEGO Mickey would be great.
This sounds pretty good, there's a lot of possibilities considering how many licenses Disney owns. LEGO, please give us a Coulson! Hopefully there will still be a Simpsons series, I still want a Moe, Skinner, Lenny and Carl at least.
@theBrickDoctor and Barney!
I hope they do some Alice in Wonderland characters in this series! And I really hope they are minifigs not the dolls!
I'd like to see at least 1 Gravity Falls minifigure, but chances of that are very slim.
Oh Please, I know the chances are very slim but please, let there be a Treasure Planet figure!
I'm calling it right now 16-18 Green Army Men from Toy Story just the accessories will be different.
I'm excited to see them... my kids will be excited too! It will be nice to buy them Lego Disney characters without having to buy an expensive set. All they want is the minifigs (or minidolls) anyways!
Do we know if these will include characters from Pixar movies? I've heard mixed reports.
I hope they are mini dolls. It will give my daughter some variety when playing with her princess sets.
@chrismajor2124, I'd love for some Pixar figures, especially a Mr Potato Head and Slinky Dog to finish off the Toy Story gang, but the chances of that are very very slim.
I hope this is true! I remembered that the minifigs magnet was glued to the magnet after scalpers selling it high on ebay and also the sets were not doing well.
Can we get some figures from Tron please? Sam Flynn, Clu, Quorra, and/or Tron himself would be awesome.
And this is probably wishful thinking, but this would also be a great opportunity to finish those Indiana Jones minfigs that we never got... Sallah, Brody, Toht, Donovan. Pretty please, Lego? :-D
Only way will get TRON figs is if someone makes a set through IDEAS... Someone get on this now please.
I only need Scrooge. And Duck Avenger. And Darkwing Duck. And...
With Disney the possibilities are endless, but I would expect to see to common Disney characters (Mickey, Pluto, Donald Duck, Goofy, and the list goes on and on). But, like the Simpsons, maybe there will be multiple waves. Then maybe in the second wave they could do Pixar characters or base it off of rides in certain Disney Parks around the world. Either way, I'd place a good bet that this wave is the classic franchise characters.
Please be TaleSpin.
Probably very unlikely, but I want to see Tron (80's or Legacy, I'm not picky) and The Rocketeer. Oh, and Sorcerer Mickey from Fantasia would be fantastic!
I'm with bbeck018! I think the chances of figures are more from mickey mouse and original disney movies, no live-action or pixar...
Hang on, when was this series even confirmed for production?
Pretty sure theae will include Ariel, Anna, Elsa, and lots more princesses. Most of them minidolls.
At first I waa disappointed but it was only a matter of time before a real girly themed minifigure set was to be released.
Any news on the European Soccer Championship minifigs?
Please Lego, do Winnie the Pooh!
I don't care too much cause there are just too many Disney classic characters. Even if there are additional seats, some may still complain that their 19th favorite character isn't in this time. I'm rather curious if future CMF series also have more figures, too?
> Could this be the opening needed to bring the various Disney universes into LEGO Dimensions
We have Disney licenses (Frozen, PotC etc), Pixar and other 3rd parties including Marvel and SW. Disney already denied their cooperation with LEGO Dimenions, so a CMF series doesn't likely help that. But yeah, LEGO Disney would have a definite conflcit with the LEGO WB universe if both are keep growing.
A LEGO Infinity is also possible IMO :P.
> Pretty sure theae will include Ariel, Anna, Elsa, and lots more princesses. Most of them minidolls.
Not a good thought. It's no doubt that there are over twenty popular Disney characters outside the Princess series. If the existed themed sets could deal with that, the figure series could deal with more franchises we've never seen before. The minidoll/minifigure debate just lacks a feasible solution.
Well, I'm going to hold judgement until we actually see these. This could go in any number of directions.
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned that this was a project on LEGO Ideas(Cuusoo) a few years ago.
There goes another £5. Trying to collect every figure in one series is really annoying, but especially the licensed ones I have almost no interest in, that I buy to have a complete collection for the sake of having a complete collection.
@ MOCDoc: Good point. I wonder what we'll say if / WHEN the IDEAS logo appears on these.
I would absolutely adore Kingdom Hearts minifigs, but I doubt that'd happen.
Are we sure there isn't 16 reg figs and 2 chase figs.
> this was a project on LEGO Ideas(Cuusoo) a few years ago.
Now Ideas prohibits figure-only project, and I guess it's a reasonable code cause the production cost is not even. Would like to see some Ideas Disney projects (like Wall-E) cause no Disney classic regular set announced at this point.
> I would absolutely adore Kingdom Hearts minifigs, but I doubt that'd happen.
Considering that it's one of the crossover title franchise, the Disney originals should go first. Rather pratical to ask Disney Infinity to include KH representive first.
Oh, my daughter will go nuts for these. I hope they are minifigures, not minidolls.
Baby006 is still the superior Mickey Mouse figure.
It'd be interesting to see them make a Pluto.
This may be the first set I don't collect. Or if I do, I'll leave them sealed, just in case I change my mind, but can get rid of them, too.
As much as I enjoy some Disney movies, I just really don't care about Disney as a whole.
No!!!! I just finished building a Minifig cabinet that holds exactly 16 per shelf!!!! This is gonna ruin everything :/
So... a minifigures series featuring nothing that I care about. :)
I'll save my money for the next normal series. Or maybe get a bunch of Bandai kaiju instead.
For everyone 'worried' about a 18 minifig series, please read TheBrickPal's comment (no 10 it is I think).
^kmvk83 if you look at the pic in the original article, it shows there will be "18 to collect" not the usual 16.

TheBrickPal's comment was in reference to the 18 entries already in the Brickset database for this series
I do not believe they will make them mini dolls, it being collectible mini figures and all. I hope that this might open the door for Star Wars, dc, or marvel collectible minifigs, although that might be wishful thinking:)
^^ Most series have 18 entries in the Brickset database, for example http://brickset.com/sets/theme-Collectable-Minifigures/subtheme-Series-15. The Disney one will have 20.
^^I stand corrected. Missed the picture.
Kind of a bummer. I have my own special 16 piece storage boxes aswell.
Lets hope there will still be 3 complete series of 18 in each box. Although I fear the worst....
Still betting for (part of the 18) minidolls. TLC has put so much effort in the development for this model of minifigures. And the minidolls sell excellent. It feels most unlikely TLC will release regular and minidoll figures.
