Star Wars Advent Calendar Review: Day 2

Posted by ,

The focus of the first few days of this year's Star Wars Advent Calendar seems to be Tatooine, the first planet we visit in A New Hope and the one which enjoys the most screen time throughout the entire saga. The Sarlacc model revealed today looks great by itself but combines with Jabba's Sail Barge to form an even better little scene as you can see after the break.

The gaping maw of the creature is represented by a single reddish brown stud while the tentacles, formed using tooth elements, are mounted on 1x1 clips so you can adjust them if you wish. Pearl gold is not the ideal colour for these clips but they are not available in tan or dark tan so I think this is a reasonable compromise.

A trans-clear 1x1 plate is also included next to the Sarlacc which allows you to place the Sail Barge right beside it! This kind of combination model is a real treat and I hope to see more like it as December continues.

1 and 2

Overall - 4.5 - This is an unusual and clever little model which goes brilliantly with yesterday's Sail Barge.

I agree! This goes so well with the sail barge! I thought this one would be on day 2 after the sail barge yesterday.

Thanks for the review. I totally think these two models look awesome together.

I would have preferred one or two tan-colored cow horn parts, just to make the tentacles seem less stationary. Otherwise, not a bad mini-model!

But does it comes with a Micro Boba Fett?

I hope there is a moisture vaporator in one window.

As stand alone I was thinking not the best model of the pit but OK since it was small. Did not think to put those together. Together the blank 1x1 plate made sense and it looked good. :-)

Ah, that makes great sense! Model on itself is maybe not the most entising build, though...

Nicely done LEGO. I'm used to the same ol' same ol' but this is very clever.

I built it this morning and I was like "whats this transparent piece?" but then I just put the sail barge on it and it looked good

Very clever, integrating with previous day's sail barge!

These models complement each other so well. I wonder if we'll be seeing other "location/envirnonment" models included in this calendar.

I wonder if next year we'll get a TFA or Rebels calendar. They're really starting to run dry on PT and OT models that work at that scale. Though I wouldn't mind getting a Santa Kenobi.

Superb. These are so trivial, but so perfect that I can't help but be impressed.

^Santa Kenobi would be great.

This is the sort of thing we need to see more of in the advent calendars. It's always more impressive, if a little less fun on a given day, to have several days of builds that make one model.

The sail barge looked alright, but this combo...dang, LEGO. Good job.
