2015 has yielded a truly incredible range of LEGO products, more than ever before in fact! A total of 677 minifigures and 779 sets from 38 themes have been released this year, making it almost impossible to select a favourite in each category.

Nevertheless, the Brickset team has been challenged to do just that and, after much deliberation, we have made the following selections.

CapnRex101:

  • Minifigure - Poe Dameron
  • Set - 75103 First Order Transporter
  • Theme - Star Wars

JANGBRiCKS:

By in United States,

Great choices all, here's mine:

Minifigure - Kylo Ren
Set - 75104 - Kylo Ren's Command Shuttle
Theme - Star Wars

I... I really like Kylo Ren. Star Wars as a theme was extremely strong this year, due in part to the film being excellent. Not to say that other themes were bad, but I feel that SW was especially outstanding. That said, LEGO in general had an amazing year overall, and 2016 is shaping up to be even better!

By in Canada,

Minifigure - Skeleton Guy CMF
Set - UCS Slave I
Theme - City (particularly the diving sub theme)

I bought a ton of varied sets throughout 2015. Definitely a strong year. So far, 2016 has far fewer sets that immediately interest me.

My humble selections:
Minifigure - 5003082 Classic Pirate (polybag)
Set - 5003082 Classic Pirate (polybag)

I feel the pirate polyba... well box really, represents what Lego is about. Presenting an infinite (re)playable story which still leaves a lot to the imagination. Lego should release more of these!

By in United Kingdom,

Minifigure: Weeping Angel
Set: 21304 Doctor Who (here's hoping for more!)
Theme: Ideas

Normally I'm more drawn to Creator, but having a fairly large backlog of such sets from last year meant that I didn't have the time or money to investigate many. The sets that intrigued me enough to make 'day one' purchases were all of those from Ideas and I wasn't disappointed with any.

Gravatar
By in Switzerland,

Minifigure - Chess Queen (40158 Pirates Chess Set)
Set - Imperial Shuttle Tydirium
Theme - Star Wars

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Minifigure: Captain Phasma (75103)
Set: First Order transporter
Theme: Speed Champions

For my favourite set, it was a really close finish between the First Order Transporter, Ideas Doctor Who and the Ferrari F40, but in the end I picked the Transporter because of its great minifigs, fair price (especially for a Star Wars set) and the fact that I actually like how it looks.

I can certainly see why all of you made those choices however!

Gravatar
By in Germany,

minifig: Leia (Endor)
set: Imperial Shuttle Tydirium
theme: SW (due to the Tydirium, Slave I and microfighter AT-AT & Snowspeeder - the rest was not up to par imho)

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I can't make up my mind for Minifigs or sets (it's been such a good year) but I do have a theme:
Minifigure: Norbert 'Shaggy' Rogers or the 11th Doctor
Set: Detective's Office, Doctor Who or The Mystery Machine
Theme: Scooby Doo

Happy New Year from here down under! :D :) :P

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Someone needs to mention the wonderful Lego Friends Grand Hotel so it might as well be me!

Minifig: Vampire Cheerleader
Set: Grand Hotel
Theme: Another shout for Seasonal sub-theme, City was incredibly strong this year, and the big Technic sets have been awesome. On reflection - Technic by a plate's-width. :)

By in Denmark,

Haha... my suggestions are quite untraditional... no licensed themes or SW or large sets:

MINIFIGURE: Sheriff – http://brickset.com/sets/71008-2/Sheriff)
... I'm not a freak for the cowboy sets, but this guy got personality.

SET: Deap Sea Submarine - http://brickset.com/sets/60092-1/Deep-Sea-Submarine
... I think this small set got atmosphere. Great build. Lots of play options, and it invites to continue building aquascape.

THEME: Pirates - http://brickset.com/sets/year-2015/theme-Pirates
... beside that I love the return of the bluecoats, LEGO managed to make smaller sized sets that are fun.

By in Taiwan,

Minifigure - Banshee
Set - 10246 - Detective's Office
Theme - Architecture

Do people feel that The Simpsons theme has ended? I would love another building in 2016, or at least Series 3 of Simpsons CMF.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Minifigure: Noah ( 41097-1 : Heartlake Hot Air Balloon)
Noah is my go-to figure when I'm playing with my kids. Be it the Friends world, Elves world, or Creator world, Noah is there with me. I love that little guy.

Set: 41078-1 : Skyra's Mysterious Sky Castle
It's an amazing and beautiful design that blends all four of the Elves elements--earth, wind, fire, and water--into one set with many functioning play features and imaginative play opportunities built in.

Theme: Elves
I feel like I'm betraying my Friends, which like Elves includes so many functioning play features and opportunities for imaginative play, but Elves has to be credited in its first year for creating a beautifully detailed world including fantastic new minidoll features that is so cohesive from one set to the next. When displayed together, the sets from the Elves theme truly do create a new, complete, and enchanting world.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Minifigure: Weeping Angel
Set: 21304 Doctor Who, 10248 Ferrari F40, and 42042 Crawler Crane

By in United Kingdom,

These are my personal faves:

Minfigure : Boba Fett from Slave I

Set: Tossup between Detective's Office, Slave I, Temple of Airjitsu and Kwik-E-Mart - it's actually impossible to choose!

Theme: I love the Scooby Doo sets, but as always it's gotta be Star Wars!

Gravatar
By in Finland,

minifigure: Green Lantern or prototype Boba Fett
set: Poe's X-wing Fighter or Green Lantern vs Sinestro
theme: Star wars

Gravatar
By in Saudi Arabia,

Since this year I finally owned my first Pirate ship as I wanted one so bad since its first wave from 1989, my favourite:
Minifiguer: The Pirate Captain & the Cook
Set: The Brick Bounty (My second big set since my 6085 that I got in 1990)
Theme: I love Pirates & Ninjago, I also Love Mixels, it does help me get the desired parts at a low cost

Gravatar
By in United States,

A good list! Mine are-

Minifigure- Kylo Ren and Capt Phasma
Set- Ferris Wheel
Theme- Star Wars

I have to say Kylo Ren is my favorite minifig. His character in the movie was played excellently. Captain Phasma was also well done though and I believe they captured her likeness well.

Although the 2016 version of Kylo is quite promising! (for those who have seen the images; I don't want to spoil anything for those who haven't seen the movie yet!)

Gravatar
By in Romania,

Great summery! Also, happy new year to everybody! :D

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Out of everything I own from this year:

Minifigure: White Pythor (with printed arms Boba and TFA C-3PO both close seconds)

Set: Either UCS Slave I or Final Flight of Destiny's Bounty - I couldn't pick between the two.

Theme: Either Bionicle or Ninjago. I will love the former always becuase I am first and foremost a Constraction fan, but the latter has had some truly excellent sets this year. Honourable mention to Jurassic World simply because the moulded dinosaurs are awesome (and I would have picked them if they were classed as minifigs!), even if the builds left something to be desired.

My wallet is already quivering at the thought of all the 2016 sets just coming out, they already look even better than 2015's!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Minifigure - Boba Fett from Slave I

Set - 70751 Temple of Airjitzu

Theme - Speed Champions

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'd go with:

Minifig - Hot Dog Guy
Set - Brainiac Attack
Theme - DC Super Heroes

TLG finally brought some variety after all the previous Batman and Superman-centric sets, so they get a pass for sneaking those two in this year's sets.

Gravatar
By in United States,

WOOHOO for Bionicle getting a mention. :D Wasn't expecting to see it, but glad it got a mention. Its not every year Lego ups and resurrects a dead theme. Even if they bring back a theme, it's usually a spiritual successor. Has anyone done an article on themes lego has actually brought back(with the same name and everything)?

Gravatar
By in United States,

^ Space Police counts. Same with Castle. But nothing on the level of BIONICLE, no.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'll take a pop at this:

Minifig : Poe Dameron
Set: Scooby Doo Mystery Mansion
Theme: Star Wars

Gravatar
By in United States,

Minifig: Ant-Man
Set: Doctor Who
Theme: Star Wars

Gravatar
By in United States,

Set - The Ferris Wheel
Theme - Creator

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I had to give this thought:
Theme = Pirates
Set = 41075 Elves Treetop Hideaway
Minifigure = Scooby Doobie Doo

Gravatar
By in United States,

Tough Decisions!
Minifigure: Mk 45 Iron man suit
Set: Temple of Airjitzu (Detectives Office and Quinjet City Chase runners up)
Theme: City. They've just come out with some great stuff this year. Between Deep Sea, Swamp police, and some of the minifigures, it was great. Ninjago close second.

This year has been a great one for LEGO, (my wallet has lost a lot of weight) with many fantastic designs and sets. Looking forward to 2016! Happy New Year to all!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Set: Wall-E

Gravatar
By in United States,

Minifigure: Darth Vader (Death Star Final Duel)
Set: Detective's Office
Theme: Ideas

Gravatar
By in Italy,

Oh, that's a very difficult task.
Probably the same question tomorrow will have a different answer.

Minifigure - sw636: Darth Vader (Type 2 Helmet)
Set - 21304 Doctor Who
Theme - Creator

That's all.
About the minifigure, there was many candidates (too many participants, I've to say!), but at the end I decided for the one that I think as been changed in the right way, that is increasing parts for more playability and details.
This is important for me, I dislike these minifigures that have "all in one" parts, such as the yeti head, or, to a lesser extent, the top head of the mad scientist. Or Simpson's minifigures. And that's why I loved minifigures like the Alien Female in the CMF s8.

Gravatar
By in France,

Minifigure : BB8 and Monsters serie.
Set : 1 Temple of Airjitzu, 2 Ferry Wheel 3 Detective agency
Theme : Creator and Ideas.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Minifigure: Weeping Angel
Set: The Mystery Machine & Doctor Who are a close tie, but I feel that Mystery Machine is a bit more in my eyes because of the sheer fun of having such an iconic cartoon vehicle, something that is beloved and well known for decades.
Theme: While perhaps a bit controversial I would say my favorite Theme from 2015 is Jurassic World. It may suffer from some odd design choices, a lack of adhering strictly to the plot and on-screen counterpoints of the film, however it is one of the strongest short-run Themes we've gotten this year. And the fact that we get tons of Dinosaurs again with some great colouring and a bit more realistic compared to Dino 2010 makes it the stand out of Theme of the year.

I would hope to see more planned for the Theme to have an actual proper Galimimus and maybe some Legacy sets featuring characters and builds from all four Jurassic movies, however as it stands right now Jurassic World is a Theme I fancy most. And in spite of price issues due to licensing and large pieces, the Theme is actually quite affordable for what you get. Before it vanishes completely I intend to finish off my collection by picking up the Indominus Rex set and look forward to having all of them on the Shelf.
