Our first look at 76052 Batman Classic TV Series - Batcave

Posted by ,

The first images of 76052 Batman Classic TV Series - Batcave have just been revealed on Facebook, showing the front and back of the box. The set contains nine minifigures, the Batmobile, the Batcycle, the Batcopter, the Batcave and a section of Wayne Manor, all of which look almost perfect to me!

Update: Images removed at LEGO's request.

It is quite difficult to see the minifigure selection in the corner of the box but they are, from left to right:

  • Batman
  • Bruce Wayne
  • Robin
  • Dick Grayson
  • Alfred Pennyworth
  • Catwoman
  • The Joker
  • The Penguin
  • The Riddler

We do not know for certain when it will be released but I think the 1st of March seems likely, with the set being made available for VIPs in mid-February. The Mr Freeze minifigure which has been seen online in recent weeks appears to be a likely candidate for a promotional polybag to go alongside the set.

Ghostbusters, schmostbusters!

I WANT THAT!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

OMG! Want Want Want, classic Batman Villians, what's not to love about it.

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

Cool, looks like a dumbed down version of the fantastic Wayne Manor Lego IDEAS project that didn't pass although in the classic era. If I wasn't a broken on cash and had only wanted to buy Hoth Attack (the UCS version) I may have been interested in this.

Not a huge fan of BM but looks good never the less :)

Gravatar
By in France,

I've never seen that show, and I assume this is the case for most of us. But still, this set looks awesome !

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

looks awesome a must buy for me

By in United States,

Oh man, I'm really excited about this one. I just hope it's in my price range. Wish we had a piece count so we could conjecture properly but it's looking to be at least $250, maybe $300. It's much bigger than I was expecting.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Smaller than what I was expecting actually; I think it will be around $200. The panel pieces give it great height but without many bricks being used.

Iffy on some areas of the design. That grey wall is absolutely ugly--but it's a must buy set for the classic figures and vehicles regardless.

By in United States,

When I saw images of this around the 'nets earlier this morning I was sure it was a hoax, and then when I saw it here I figured it was an April Fools, until I realized what day it was...
Now I'm just excited. And while it seems unfinished to me it still looks to be a good parts pack, along with all the figs. Neat!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I. NEED. THIS.

I grew up watching re-runs of this show... KAPOW!

Does Batman comes with the shark repellent bat-spray?... WHAMM!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think this is really well done, and I am a Batman fan, but the classic series doesn't appeal to me enough to purchase something this expensive.

Much like the Ghostbusters Headquarters, something 2/3 to 1/2 the size would be more likely to get my money.

I do like the big detailed niche interest sets coming out, however. I just keep my fingers crossed that something aligned better with my interests comes along.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow. Coolest Batman set they've ever done I'd say.

Gravatar
By in Colombia,

Really Amazing, I LOVE the new Catwoman

Gravatar
By in Mexico,

Looks totally awesome! Im so gettin this.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I kind of expected something more Firehouse-like, but I'm interested by what I'm seeing...great figs, batmobile, and a positively sprawling build. Details will make it fantastic or just ok.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm going to have to have one of these. Loved the TV show, still watch it occasionally on Video CDs I made transferred from BetaMAx recordings of TV broadcasts.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm not really a DC fan, but this is pretty sweet.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I was actually expecting it to be better.

And a LEGO helicopter in a cave... makes LEGO logic sense.

I also wish it was a North American box so we could get piece count.

Gravatar
By in Japan,

Neat, I like that it looks like the Joker's costume is an appropriately lighter magenta, good attention to detail. However, I wonder if he'll have a mustache.

I'm a little disappointed Batman isn't blue.

Gravatar
By in United States,

And there go all the VIP points I've hoarded for the Ghostbusters HQ.

Curses.

Gravatar
By in Japan,

@yuffie

The difference between this (and the Ghostbusters HQ to a large extent) versus say, Changing Seasons, is that something as obvious and iconic as this really does fall into the realm of "inevitable discovery". Lego DOES steal ideas - that much is clear - but this is too obvious that multiple people would have thought of it. Whether or not they use Ideas as a salability barometer for these obvious ideas is a different story, though.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Dream come true! This is one of my favorite shows of all time, can't wait to see the minifigs up close. Good attention to detail - classic Alfred, the labeled fire-poles, the atomic pile! Time to start coming up with an Aunt Harriet minifig...

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'll probably need this. While I don't count the DCCU figs in my collection, these guys are colorful and fun enough to fit with my comics characters. I do like the look of the figures, and can't wait to see them up close.

While Batgirl's absence is a big problem, there is a reason for it. Her cowl/hair would require a new mold, which D2Cs generally don't have. Hence why Catwoman's hair had to be released earlier for the Tiger Woman minifigure, as they couldn't have a new mold made for this set.

Nice!! What with this and Ghostbusters, Lego have really got me interested in sets again.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

That's so good! I can't wait for this to come out!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Now if only they would make a Dark Knight version of this. Wayne Manor, the tumbler, batpod, the bat, Scarecrow, Joker, Bane, Harvey, Two Face, Comm Gordon, Alfred, Catwoman, throw in a few henchmen. The last bat cave set was already more classic tv batcave than the modern one.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

That's the Batmobile I grew up with, almost makes me want to purchase the set for that alone.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Boy, I'll be buying this one Currently been thinking about the Ghostbusters set, but I'm a Batman nut, and loved this show when I was a kid. This is a must-buy for me, straight to the top of the list. Can't wait to see some better shots of it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The only Batman stuff I know we'll is the Dark Knight Trilogy; but this set is spectacular!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow! Cannot wait!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Soooooo, excited. Can't wait. I almost fell off my chair when I heard the first rumor of it. Loved the show

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Another who saw this show as a child. I too thought that this must be an April Fool for a split second. A must have, along with the volcano police swamp gas station announced earlier.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I speculate that this may wind up being the same price range as Arkham was, possibly even around the same price as Jokerland, though I hesitate to say so as there is a possibility I am wrong. That being said it's nice to see that if you couldn't afford SDCC you can still own the original 60's Batmobile without dishing out exorbitant prices on the secondary market. When it becomes available depending on price I may wind up with this one before the Firehouse simply because the Firehouse is so expensive.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Wow! Loved the series, and I'm loving this set! Julie Newmar Catwoman, grrrrrr. Just for that figure I want this set. And the Batmobile. And the Batcopter... Actually, it's just all good!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Going to guess that price will be $150-$299. Very confused as to why they went with the black and gray vs blue and gray batman though. I mean the "classic tv series" is basically defined by the blue suit. Very odd.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love how LEGO requests these images be removed - meanwhile, its the internet and the photos can never be erased.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I could be convinced to buy the Batmobile alone, but I don't think it's worth the cost of the whole set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@paul888: It's dark blue, like the show, but the picture is dark and blurry.
What I don't get is why ask to remove images when they're probably going to be published in the next two weeks?

Gravatar
By in United States,

@8BrickMario: ah, ok, that makes sense LOL! I'll need to check another site to have a look at the image again.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This is fantastic, after they released LEGO Batman 3 I found out the instructions and parts to build that batmobile and it looks like they are using the same (but probably better) in this set and I know that alone looks great in a LEGO Batman collection, the rest of the cave is just amazing. Can't wait for this now, I'm gonna be really poor come March if this comes out around the Killer Croc and Scarecrow sets.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think I'm likely in the minority on this, but I absolutely hate 60s TV series. I spent most of my childhood despising Batman because of it. And I largely still hate Robin for the same reason. As to why anyone likes this garbage is beyond me. William Dozier did nearly as much damage the superhero genre as Fredric Wertham. The 60s TV series and Schumacher movies I have a particular name for, but won't print here as it would be highly offensive and get me trouble.

As for the set, it looks interesting and I'm likely to consider getting it, even given my opinion of the source material. There's some interesting looking elements and I'm looking forward to see better pictures it. The price is of minor concern. My guess is $350 plus. Given the villains, the vehicles, and a bit of the action, I'm thinking this is based on the movie.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

It pains me to say it but I'm not tremendously impressed. It feels... overdone and underdone? I dunno. Maybe it'll be cooler in person. Want just the Batmobile.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Wow
What an beautiful Eyecandy-Set
This will he an horrible expansive year

Gravatar
By in United States,

I am running out of shelf space!!! Need to go to Ikea...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow, that's so--oh, no images? Bummer, too late. Anyway, if Batgirl isn't in this set, that's a minor letdown, but understandable if it's just based on the movie.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Hopefully the minifigures will be perfect for recreating my favourite episode from the classic show where the Joker and Batman have a surfing contest. Either that or a Batusi MOC.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'm sorry...but except for the Wayne Manor façade, it's just a reworking of the 6860 Batcave from 2012. So much potential...what a waste.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

For me, It should include some printed KAPOW, WHAM etc signs/tiles ... new parts, yeah, but such a nod to the show and style

Gravatar
By in United States,

Good timing on the tax return article too. Hopefully I have enough on my return to get this and the UCS Hoth set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Getting this one, no doubt! I love the throw-back sets...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Darn it!! Removed before I could see!!

Gravatar
By in Germany,

@JenniferP. WTH?
It looks nothing like 6860 at all. Size, time period, style, color, vehicles, everything. Those two sets are NOTHING alike.

Gravatar
By in France,

I would prefer a modern era Batcave as I'm not a big fan of the tv show in the sixties.
To me, Batman and Robin were wearing pajamas. ^^

Gravatar
By in United States,

@LusiferSam- I love the show, started watching it in recent years. It's not meant to be taken seriously. I like it simply because of how ridiculous it is- the firepoles the Dynamic Duo slide down, the Shark-Repellant Bat Spray, the shots where Batman and Robin "scale the side of a building" by filming them walking on flat ground and rotating it 90 degrees, Egghead, Minstrel, Siren, Lola Lasagne, Batman's now unimpressive physique, the ridiculous sound balloons (ZWIIP! ZING! BOFF!), the philosophy that swinging on a ceiling-mounted pole will make you invincible in combat, the eternal preference of villains to put Batman and Robin through an easily escapable deathtrap instead of just shooting them or something, Batman's constant ordering villains to turn themselves in so they can get the help they need, the bulletproof soles of Batman and Robin's boots, and countless other features that make the plots laughable.

As far as the set goes, I cried inside a little when I saw the stud launchers on the Batmobile's hood. Overall the cave is excellent, conveying the obviously set-like nature of the "cave". The minifigures included are an impressive array, though of course everyone has that one character they wish had been added, which for me would be either the egg-themed villain Egghead or Alfred with his green Starbucks apron for when he dusts the Batcave. I also disagree with those who say this is simply a remake of the 2006 or 2012 Batcave. The general shape of boxes and platforms has stayed, other than that, not much else.

I am disappointed the Batcomputer is not labeled Batcomputer. Batman needed that label to remember what it was.

I like the inclusion of the upper room in Wayne Manor, however if the designers were feeling extra generous they might have cast the pieces for the phone in trans-red.

The backside of the firepole wall, which is built to look like the exterior of Wayne Manor, is a nice touch, if a bit inaccurate. I certainly think it's better than nothing.

Luckily the firepoles for Bruce and Dick are labeled, otherwise they might accidentally slide down the wrong ones and be completely disoriented upon reaching the Batcave.

By in United States,

Definitely the only gift my son is getting for his birthday

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Honestly, I would've preferred a smaller set of just the cave, the Batmobile and Batman, Robin, Alfred plus a villain or two minifigures. Something more along the lines of the previous modern one.

The house bit, as well-intentioned as it may be, looks very awkward with the facade and interior being completely mismatched. They should've just skipped the facade and done it like with the Ninja Turtles lair a few years back.

Think I'll just end up Bricklinking the parts for the Batmobile and leave it at that.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I. Need. This. Now.!!!!

Seriously looks better than I could have dreamed. I am obsessed with the show in all its cheesieness. This is a dream come true. I am scared to hear the price but who am I kidding.
SHUT UP AND TAKE ALL OF MY MONEY!!!!!!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Saw the images somewhere else... it looks fabulous, except for the ugly sideways plates. One question though... why are they using black and grey Bats with the ginormous cowl?! It's so absurdly out of place!

Gravatar
By in United States,

no!!!!!!!!!! I'm to late to see it I got home around the time the article was posted and than update

oh! never mind I saw a blery picture of the set on google though so ya!!!!!!!!
looks amazing!!!!!!!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Love it! I now need to rethink the potential Ghostbusters HQ purchase...

Gravatar
By in United States,

I can't believe that this is going to cost $270. Way too much! Wish it were $200 or less.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

For the few people who have mentioned they would only want the batmobile from this set, you should take a look at this moc based on LEGO Batman 3, it's not 100% accurate to what will be in this set (you'll also struggle to find the wheel arches in red I think) but I parted it out and built it and it's great.

http://rebrickable.com/mocs/NavyFenson/batmobile-60s-adam-west-batman-lego-batman-3

Based on that MOC and just the general look of the set I can't imagine it being much more than 2000 pieces so I'd like to think it's around the £150 mark at the most maybe £170 like the Dark Knight tumbler was.

The Firehouse is 4000+ pieces for it's £270 price tag and I can't see anywhere near that many pieces being needed for these.

Gravatar
By in United States,

So if that is a promo polybag then I have to buy this early or pay through the nose later. Thanks LEGO. My money is tied up into LUG activities this early in the year.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This set has been reported to have 2526 pieces and will cost 270 USD. That's expensive for this set. Too expensive.

Gravatar
By in Japan,

@8BrickMario

You touch on an interesting discussion, which I've considered often but unfortunately we have little insight into.

Basically "How difficult to make/expensive REALLY are new molds, and at what rate are they produced?" Some people seem to significantly exaggerate the cost of new molds, but I think it's more something already worked into Lego's budgets than we realize.

I'll give two examples for my suspicion. The first is Cuusoo Zelda. For a brief moment, it seemed like one of the (what is it, 4 or 5 now?) Zelda Cuusoo/Ideas sets might happen. This was probably just wishful thinking on the part of fans, but one submission went out of it's way to make sure no new elements were used and even pledged to allow their 1% compensation be waived to go toward paying for the one new element deemed unavoidably necessary - Link's hat and ears.

So it never came to be, but fast forward a year or so and we get not one but TWO pointy ears and cap molds through the CMF Christmas Elf (later to be used in more Christmas sets) and CMF Goblin (now reused once for the Green Goblin). Unfortunately we won't know, but I imagine these were based off of a prototype for a Link ears and hat mold that never came to be. I imagine Lego explored the possibility of a Lego Zelda set, and in doing so had their sculptors go ahead and make a hat piece. When it fell through for whatever reason they decided to use the prototype into whatever else they though of.

The second in the abundance of new molds found in CMF that at one point I predicted would be used in a future Lego Ancient Greece/Rome theme. The CMF
Spartan
Gladiator
Minotaur
Roman Soldier
Ocean King
Cyclops
Roman Emperor
Roman Commander
Medusa
Battle Goddess
Upcoming Satyr?

ALL contain new elements that have never been reused. If Lego is so afraid to make new molds that they won't be able to reuse due to the outrageous cost, why create so many here, or in the entirety of the CMF line even? You could say the CMF pay for themselves because of how popular they are, but then why not new elements put into not-CMF sets? Making a Gladiator helmet is financially wise, but Batgirl's helmet isn't?

Either they plan to reuse these elements or designing and producing new elements is within their normal budget. I think it's both. They throw previously new elements into sets where they can and are probably getting their sculptors to make new ones constantly because that's the cost of business.

If I have a single point in this ramble, it's that I think we should remove the mystery and weight to new molds. Lego is minifig-centric these days, and the novelty of new and interesting minifigs (requiring new and interesting molds) is what their business IS today. Being surprised about if new molds are feasible for Legos considering the costs is like being surprised Tropicana still makes orange juice considering the cost of oranges.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Did the designer even watch the show before making this set? The poles should be on the left side of the cave. Also, all those exposed studs look ugly and boring inside something that's supposed to be a cave.

I was disappointed both in Batman 3 and now here with the lack of faithfulness to the source material.

This seems like it would look ugly on display, and lacks the polish I'd expect from an official LEGO set.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

@JooTog , Haha I really do hope the helicopter contains shark repellent bat-spray... :D

Actually I was happy that they included classic batman in Batman 3, I thought it was the best part about the game and wished the game was ALL classic Batman.

I'm very likely buying this, seems like a unique opportunity :) !!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I heard it costs up to 250k for a new mould. No idea if that's true or not.

For me though Batgirl is a minor character, I hardly remember her in the show tbh. Must includes for me were Batman Robin Alfred Penguin Joker Riddler and Catwoman. Which is what we got. A random more obscure (but oh-so 60's!) villain like The Minstrel would have been cool but this looks awesome.

Maybe a few promos or spin-off smaller sets will turn up as well.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Cesar Romero Joker. Yes please!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@thisisteekay The incorrect positioning of the poles shouldn't be a problem. It looks as though all of the modules of the set are just connected by pins, so it is easy to rearrange. I would imagine that that particular innacuracy was due to the photographers trying to fit the whole set on the box, rather than ineptitude on the part of the designers. They wouldn't make a mistake like that!

"Update: Images removed at LEGO's request."
Either stop posting click bait that you know you'll have to remove, or update the page titles so people using the RSS feeds aren't annoyed.
Thanks :-)

Though why lego bother when a swift Google turns up the box image I have no idea. "Streisand effect" obviously passed them by.
