Review: 76062 Robin vs. Bane

I have been eager to take a closer look at the Mighty Micros range as this unique series is a dramatic departure from traditional Super Heroes sets, offering a pair of comically scaled vehicles along with similarly unusual minifigures.

76062 Robin vs. Bane is one of three DC Super Heroes Mighty Micros to be released in the first wave and is priced at £8.99 or $9.99. This low price point makes the sets ideal for children and they are certainly the target market for the Mighty Micros, although there are aspects of each one which will probably appeal to adults as well.

Minifigures

As the name of the set would suggest, Robin and Bane are included. These minifigures both have short legs and are printed with relatively little detail, although this is not necessarily a bad thing as I find the simplified designs quite charming. Robin's head features a manic grin while the torso is printed with his insignia and a yellow utility belt which continues onto the back. The short yellow cape is made from a spongy material so will not get in the way when he is slotted into his vehicle.

76062 Robin vs. Bane

Bane's head is not very cartoonish in style and looks excellent, with an intimidating visage on the front and the top of the tube which feeds him Venom on the back. This continues onto the torso and connects with the tank printed on his lower back. The front of the torso features muscle definition and a rather comic 'B' which lessens the usefulness of the figure but captures the fun of the Mighty Micros theme. Bane is armed with a stick of dynamite and Robin carries a red grapnel launcher.

76062 Robin vs. Bane

I am a seasoned LEGO Super Heroes collector and am therefore delighted by the unique designs included in these Mighty Micros sets, although I appreciate that more traditional designs might be more appealing to those who do not own the standard minifigures. You can always swap the legs for longer ones but the wackiness of some of the expressions may reduce the versatility of one or two figures across the entire line.

The Completed Model

Robin is one of very few Super Heroes who is not often associated with a vehicle, other than perhaps the Redbird Cycle. I am therefore not surprised that the designer seems to have struggled when trying to create a car to match the character, offering a fairly nondescript model which is only recognisable as belonging to Robin as a result of the colour scheme and the logo which is printed on the spoiler.

76062 Robin vs. Bane

Nevertheless, this is a fun little model. The wheel base is extraordinarily short but there is still room to stand Robin behind the steering wheel and he fits very nicely as the cape can be folded down behind him or draped over the spoiler. I am not keen on the narrow front wheels which are justaposed with wider tyres at the rear but this makes the car look a little beefier and more powerful.

76062 Robin vs. Bane

Most of the Mighty Micros are formed around two new pieces, a chassis and a combined wheel arch. These make construction rather simple but also ensure that the model is durable. Robin's cart uses both but some of the other vehicles use only one or neither of these new elements.

76062 Robin vs. Bane

Bane's drill tank is very reminiscent of 8960 Thunder Driller from 2009 and the lime green colour used for most of the bodywork is clearly based on the Power Miners theme. The drill at the front can be rotated on a 2x2 turntable and there is also a small floodlight for subterranean driving. Bane is not protected from rocks which may be thrown towards him by the drill and the two flaming exhausts behind him seem equally dangerous, although I doubt the Santa Priscan criminal is fazed by any such risk.

76062 Robin vs. Bane

It would have been nice to see some kind of mechanism allowing the drill to spin as the model is rolled around, although I doubt that such a function is possible at this tiny scale. As a result my only issue with this model is the loose placement of the flames which wobble around slightly in their mounting. They will not fall out if the vehicle is inverted but they are not fitted as securely as I would like.

Overall

This is not my favourite of the six Mighty Micros but is a decent set on the whole. The minifigures are particularly impressive and I have few complaints about the vehicles, although there are others which are more successful in conveying the character of the hero or villain to whom each one belongs. If you are particularly keen Bane or Robin then this is an ideal set but otherwise I would recommend some of the other Mighty Micros over this one.

76062 Robin vs. Bane

We will shortly be running a competition in relation to the Mighty Micros with some very exciting prizes on offer, so keep an eye on the homepage and stay tuned for more reviews!

> Robin's new facial print is just the best! I still don't get why they're using the shorter legs...

Because they're Micro: mini, miniature, shorter, chibi, super-deformed, etc. It's in-line with the entire theme.

Excellent review. Can I suggest hyperlinking to the new theme "Mighty Micro's" somewhere near the top of the article? Both on this review and the 75871 Ford Mustang GT review I wanted to see the other sets in the theme being discussed but there wasn't a direct hyperlink to the new themes summary on brickset.

Thanks and keep up the good work!

When these were first announced, my thinking was, "Kids are going to love these. Me, not so much. Not my thing." I'm starting to come around, though. They're pretty cool IMO.

Robin seems like the only figure in this line who makes sense with the short legs. Heck, I think I have some spare regular black legs that I could stick on Bane.

I love these Love the unique designs and Robin's face is brilliant.

I didn't realize that the bane B makes an exclamation mark with the red center on the belt.

By in United Kingdom,

I picked up the three DC Mighty Micros today from Asda but have yet to build them. They look very good though.

Thanks for the excellent review!

Awesome review! I was thinking about picking a few of these up.

Quick question though: Is the contest you're thinking about something that requires owning the mighty micros? That would influence whether I buy them soon or hold off for bit and purchase other things for now.

By in Sweden,

I know a lot of people don't like the minifigures because they're not the "proper" ones, but I just find them incredibly charming and goofy fun. I really hope they do more these, I'd love to see an Iron Man one especially.

These mini figures are also great if you want trick-or-treaters for Halloween displays.

But the Flash one has two unique printed pieces so that's great too.

These minifigs would be perfect for trick-or-treating kids. :P

I am disappointed to see those two pieces that make up so much of the models. What else would you use that wheelarch thing for?

By in Canada,

I'm surprised they didn't make give this theme small pull back motors, like in the Racers line.

By in United States,

I absolutely love this line. If anything, it adds more "comic book expressions" for the "proper-scaled" minifigs.

By in Germany,

I like these. The Mighty Micros look like fun, especially for kids. But I can also see them as collectibles for AFOLs.

By in United States,

I bought the Flash/Captain Cold pack on a whim, and I'm hooked. They're like a Super Hero-infused version of Mario Kart.

The zany heads are great because they provide an emotive alternative to some of the less expressive "normal" heads (e.g. Spider-Man).

A little disappointed that you can't get rare-ish minifigures easily by buying these sets, but the unique shortleg figs that these do provide are pretty great. Robin's face has to be one of the best LEGO heads I've seen in a while.

By in Australia,

I suppose there's some interesting pieces here, but no, my initial opinion stays the same. I'll pass on all of these, they just don't look great to me at all. I'll save my money for the new Elves and Speed Champions sets.

By in United States,

I really like these sets. My son will be happy because he is disappointed that Robin wasn't available as a Lego Dimensions Fun Pack. Were these designed as vehicle alternatives by the Lego Dimensions team?

By in United States,

That robin will be perfect for a kid trick or treating in a lego town setting!

By in United States,

I have been waiting to see these sets, and they look great and all, but remind me of two Ideas Projects... https://ideas.lego.com/projects/42554 and https://ideas.lego.com/projects/59618 . These sets were based on the idea of Super Hero race cars, DC and Marvel each having their respected sets. Before posting this comment, I even looked back at the project and noticed something in particular... the robin car looks almost the exact same to the one LEGO made. Same color scheme and a yellow spoiler on the back. Then as I scanned the rows, I found Bane. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw his design... a mini drill. I just found this interesting, and I haven't cross referenced the other "Mighty Micros" sets with these projects to see if there are any more coincidences. Also, this project is LONG expired reinforcing the fact that great minds must think alike (LEGO's Designers and the original Idea Submitter).

By in Japan,

LEGO sure love giving Bane drill vehicles don't they? Strange, because to my knowledge, no other incarnation of Bane has had such a fixation with them...!

In any case, I adore these, and I really hope they become a long-term sub theme of Super Heroes. I'd like to see Thor and Loki in little ornately decorated 'chariots', and perhaps the Joker in some kind of clown car/bumper car.

By in United Kingdom,

I love the look, but to me they're a bit expensive for what you get.

By in Germany,

nice reivew! Good set for parts for only $9.99. And the minifigs look good spectacular!
thanks for the reivew CapnRex101!

By in United States,

I love these sets and can't wait to pick them all up! I do wonder why the DC ones get printed parts, though, while the Marvel ones use stickers.

@Starik20X7 - the 1997 Batman & Robin movie featured Bane and his drill vehicle. As the movie was quite comical [over the top and not really in a good way!], I think the choice for this set is perfect. I know the more serious sets have him in the drill too, but I think they are all inspired by his appearance in that movie.

Mighty Micros look fun. I might have to pick one up. Can't wait for the contest!

By in United States,

Take the Robin from the Jokerland and replace that head with this one from the micros set and he becomes a pretty good representation of the Teen Titan Robin IMO.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Robin (Tim) had a car for a while in the 1990s, the "Redbird", but its only resemblance to the one in this set is the red color scheme.

By in United States,

Good review @CapnRex101, I purchased this same set just to see if there was any value in this series and I can't justify it. Maybe good intro sets for kids 4-8 years of age but that's it. They hold no collector value as the legs are not representative of the figures over all, prefer to pay the money for real sets.

By in Greece,

The two best cars in mighty micros series IMO are Bane's and the snowplough!

I see these, and I'm filled with so much sadness that LEGO doesn't have the Nintendo license. These have MarioKart written all over them.
