New part: 'Bar Ø3.2 W/Tube Ø3.2 Hole'

Posted by ,

City Volcano Explorers sets are launched in a couple of weeks. I have been sent 60124 Volcano Exploration Base to review just ahead of its release and while building it I came across an interesting new part.

It's used for fixing protective bars in front of the windscreen to a 1x1 clip on a few models in the theme and can be best seen in the picture of 60122 Volcano Crawler.

Its design number is 23443 and part number in black is 6143318. I don't know its official name, although it's probably something like that in the title of this article.

It can be attached to any part with a 3.2mm clip and it perfectly complements part 11090 'Holder Ø3.2 W/Tube Ø3.2 Hole', itself a relatively new part, introduced in 2013. When connected to it, it will allow bars to be connected at an angle.

New part!

You can get a feel for its potential when used with a few other parts in the set.

New part!

The set only contains two of them so I can't investigate its full potential but I think that with a third one an equilateral triangle could be made.

If you look closely at the one at the bottom of the picture below you can see that it has a slight notch in it which accommodates the shoulder of the 11090 clip thus allowing it to connect at 60 degrees.

With enough of both types of connector and bars it should be possible to make some interesting nets.

New part!

What do you think it will be useful for? Is it a part you have been waiting for?

There are a few other interesting new parts in the set which I will talk about in my review, so stay tuned...

By in Australia,

this is cool. You could also use it to make claws on mechs, like the other piece, or animals i guess?

Interesting. It would fit on the head of a minidoll allowing you to make weird Friends androids. Friendroids.

Interesting! I'm hoping to get some of the Volcano sets, so it'll be interesting to play with these...

With enough of them to hand you could make some nice "realistic" couplings for cable fittings, like on a suspension bridge.

Very interesting element.

Brilliant! That has loads of potential. :-)

Cool article and quite an aperitif before a set review!

I myself am seeing a lot of potential for something I've wanted for a long time: properly articulated fingers for Constraction figures! Not to mention this will be really good for small but highly detailed bots and mechs. That possibility alone warrants me wanting about 10 million of these. Now just waiting for my Mixel ballcup on axle or bar then I'll be truly happy :)

Shame Bricks and Pieces inventory probably won't update with these when the Volcano sets are released... what's up with that inventory service anyway?

^ I don't know why many of this year's inventories are so incomplete. It's as if a decision has been made to not include new parts in them. Whatever, it's annoying!

Nice! I've been looking forward to that exact piece, didn't know it was actually happening. Will definitely come in handy for a lot of stuff.

Wow! A fascinating addition to the clip/bar connection system... how far will TLG take it?!

A really nice new part. Best new piece this year imo!

Lots of potential uses for this new element! Mixels immediately comes to mind.

@Huw, I agree it's very annoying, and it's not just affecting Brickset. It's the number one question I'm itching to ask TLG about actually. It's not like they don't have the inventory info, I've requested missing pieces not showing up in their database and they've put it through and I've got them.

Oh well, as long as LEGO continue to neglect their online inventories and prevent me from purchasing 2016 parts, I'll continue to give business to Bricklink instead :)

But anyway, I look forward to the review and finding out about all the other new and interesting parts!

By in Finland,

This is surely a useful part. I think it's one of those elements that just keeps revealing new aspects of itself every time when someone manages to connect it with another nifty piece.

@rodiziorobs, cool, hadn't noticed that!

Welcome realistic Jeeps frames.

Perfect for Theo Jansen style Strandbeests. I might be having delusions of grandeur now.

Hopefully these will show up in future Mixels releases.

Dang that is awesome. Both of these would be great in building folding, but structurally sound landing gear.

Dang. They just keep making it easier and easier to build detailed MOC's and small mechs, etc.
Thank you LEGO!

Meh. Haha, just kidding...

Looks like a neat part.. definitely will be useful for MOCing!

This would come in handy in making roll cages for vehicles

By in Australia,

I have a whole pile of new-for-2016 parts (new molds, new colors for existing molds and new decorations) that I would buy from Bricks & Pieces (some in large quantity) if they were listed... (although some of them are probably things LEGO wouldn't be able to sell me in any case like parts from some of the Ghostbusters stuff)

Oooooh! What a wonderful piece. Great job TLG for paying attention to what we need. Thanks for posting this article Huw. So many great new parts coming out in the last half a decade. My wallet is feeling the burn already. Lets hope it comes out in Medium Stone Gray, Brick Yellow, and Reddish Brown real soon as those will be quite popular for space, brick built figure and landscape builders, just to name a few.

Awesome piece. Definitely could be useful.

Could be used as a robotic arm like those arms in Iron Man that but the armour on him before he had them opening up

Chould be good for making a "Edge of Tomorrow exo suit.
