Wow. That is big. :|
"Unfortunately LEGO has not deemed it necessary to send out any press material to most fan sites so you'll have to make do with this one image of it for now."
11/10
AMAZING!
looks cool, but expensive
I'm not a Disney fan but that is quite nice looking
Wow, 289 pounds for five minifigs!
But that is the best Lego castle I've ever seen
This looks stunning, I definitely need to get this set despite the giant price tag. Wow, just wow.
So now for a big layout with the Disney Castle in one corner, the Tower of Orthanc in another, and the Ninjago Temple in another....
It looks fantastic. Time to start saving...
Anyways wow! Lego has really outdone themselves this year when it comes to buildings (Firehouse, Big Ben and now this amazing castle)! I'm very interested with Mickey's new coat tail cloth piece though, it looks amazing, and it complements his printing/tux perfectly! Why isn't such a piece introduced earlier? =3 About the castle itself, well its simple amazing. Nuff said =P
bouwsteentjes.info for more pics
I need this so bad!
Hmmm, it's kind of ironic that Brothers-Brick.com had the 'unofficially released' pictures up this weekend and yet they DID get all the official pics and press release from Lego.
"Ages 16+"
"This set offers an age-appropriate building experience for ages 12 and over."
LEGO finally admits that the 16+ label is only a marketing ploy for adults.
This will look great next to my Ghostbusters Firehouse.
I will be bricklinking those shields from the interior. :)
Wow... Even with the poor exchange rate for the UK - still cheaper to buy in the USA!
It looks wonderful I admit but can I justify the price after already getting the Ghostbusters HQ this year?
You know what this would Sell me on a Disneyworld LEGO set... say it with me.... MONORAIL!
I guess it was too expensive to recolour all the parts needed to make the turrets pink.
Shame, as I was certain to buy it, but the decision to go with tan instead makes it just an ornate castle, not a Disney one, and not for me.
@MeggyM00
Why would they use pink? It's not Paris' Sleeping Beauty Castle.
^ I agree.
I guess Tinkerbell could never look good as a minifigure. And it looks like Mickey can't wear the wizard's hat in the Sourcerer's Apprentice room.
Just awesome!!! Looking forward to more detailed photos!
Wow. Has the number or really large sets increase over the last few years? It feels like these monsters used to be quite rare but now my wallet barely recovered from the last one before a new one is announced.
Wow. that looks amazing. I usually shy away from Disney merchandise.. but this might be the exception.
Erm, where's Daisey's skirt?
I'm curious as to how that is 4000 pieces. It looks to me mostly made up of quite large pieces. Still, its possibly the first disney set ever to cost less than 10c/piece. Normally they're more like 20. And it does look nice, even if far more of that detail is stickers than is necessary.
Wow, that's a seriously nice model .The lack of Cinderella in Cinderella's Castle is supremely odd, though. :P
Looks pretty cool, I'm vaguely wondering if I can use it for my Castle theme... it's probably going to be the largest Lego castle ever made.
Just the same, I'm still probably going to try waiting for a Castle-themed castle of this size :)
I just love it. I'd buy this even if I have to sell everything else.
Just what exactly were Hoth, Batcave and The Village like? I can't remember them now...
With all the rooms having scenes from different movies... it's the Disney Death Star!
@inversion
just check the faces and comments of Technic designers when talking about age ratings on boxes ;)

It doesn't have a good number of minifigs for the price, and it's to expensive!!! But the build is pretty sweet!!!!! Even thou I'm not that much of a Disney fan at all!
*whistles* I'm not all that into this sort of thing, but this a really stupendous model. I wonder if the Death Star will be as good as this...
A full set of images is now available on the set details page, thanks to CM4Sci. We've still not been sent anything officially which is galling given we held off posting leaked images last week as a courtesy to LEGO even though they were all over the 'net.
@Morgan19
Wave 2 of Disney figs will probably contain all the missing princesses. Product tying for ya. Probably they don't want to make mainstream characters exclusive to such an expensive set.
I had high expectations for this set, and it exceeded them. Well done. With the exception of the crest above the entry, none of the other details look obviously like stickers. And I noticed that the set has the Witch King crown turned upside down for the lamps at the front door.
I'm also curious about the piece count since there does seem to be a lot of big pieces. Still, I must have this.
LOL @Darth Dee.....it is indeed the Disney Death Star!
Dang, what a fantastic model. It's crazy how many references/easter eggs there are in this thing. Even with 4000+ pieces it still feels a little expensive, though...
Where goofy and Cinderella?
This is a jaw-droppingly good castle. Wow. This completely makes up for the lack of a classic Castle set this year. A must-buy for sure! Might even get a second one as an investment set...
Another huge must have set!!! Sets with 4,000 or more pieces are becoming more and more the norm, not that I'm complaining about that!!! We've had the ghostbusters hq, Big Ben and now this in just one year. The bucket wheel excavator is almost a fourth with just under 4,000 pieces.
Another masterpiece from Sir Marcos Bessa!
Wow I can see loads of nods to Disney films.
My mom would love this! But at the same time she may think i am getting it for myself...
Wow... I mean, just... wow. I was expecting quite a decent looking set, but that just looks so good! Shame it's outside my price range, but hey. Still looks brilliant. If only all D2Cs were this good *cough*assaultonhoth*cough*.
Save your money and get Big Ben instead.
That castle is simply amazing! I had very high expectations and they have been well surpassed. As far as the minifigures though only having 5 included is dissapointing, and the fact that the Lego Disney Minifigures are sold out and were nowhere to be found in my neck of the woods only adds to the frustration. Even w/o the dozen or so minifigures this set needs though my daughter (me) will definately want this for Christmas :)
It's a cool set, but I'm pretty sure that I can skip it. The grey front wall puts me off as it doesn't really go with the bright back section of the castle. Looks like an interesting set still.
I was looking forward to this one and although it looks spectacular I was expecting the big, pink castle that's in Disneyland Paris. I completely forgot about the one in America, which doesn't look as good in my opinion, but maybe that's because I was "raised" with the pink one, being from Europe and all of that. I'm torn on the display things on the other side of the castle. Sure they're great nods but I'd rather have something that'd look good on display from all sides as opposed to just the front. And that price is steep, which means I'll give it a pass. Still, nice job. :-)
Not a huge fan of disney but I will be getting this!
I'm not a Disney fan but that is a nice set. Just not $350 worth of nice, especially with all the other large sets I don't have yet.
@LE-GOlas Or save your money and get this instead :) Big Ben is neat, but as a Disney and Lego fan this is a must-have for me. It is such a great representation of the Castle itself in the Magic Kingdom at Disney World.
Very nice model, but not for me since I am not a huge Disney fan. I think it's really lacking in the minifigure dept, but it doesn't matter that it's just the facade.
Using VIP points on this will be so satisfying!! Should be able to get the cost of this down to about $60!
Wow this is huge I may get this
I usually buy sets for the figs and bin the rest. Only five figs, and I'll need a bigger bin!
A truly monster set with a big price tag. First time Tinker Bell gets the Lego treatment but it would have been more appropriate to have Cinderella herself in the set rather than Tinker Bell. Has a lot of things for play features that could be adapted for Mediaval MOC's (or a Witcher MOC).
Oh wow! I like it! It looks like a great build!
No set is complete without stud shooters... even Disney castle! At least they didn't include a super jumper.
I have not commented on much these days, but this looks fantastic! I really wish however they never used the rounded base part near the back, this will make it much harder to put two of them together.
Well done Disney/Lego, My frustration grows knowing my budget is all but gone and I am trying to play catch up.... ghostbusters fire hall, batcave etc..
I like all the nods to other movies included in the castle (Sleeping Beauty, Aladdin, Snow White, etc.).
Given the rabid Disney fanbase, this may well become TLG's top-selling $300+ set of all time.
The only thing that's a bit weird is no Cinderella or Prince Charming in what's supposed to be her own castle.
Absolutely stunning a must purchase.
With Big Ben and now this Lego are on fire.
A new UCS Death Star and we can forget about the disappointment of the Hoth Set...............and I may need to get a 2nd job to pay for them all.
They have me sold on getting one of these, but now I'm thinking I would need 2 so the castle has a back and can fold open....
also still hoping for a mini build of the bronze Walt and mickey statue from the front.
Aw man, I was hoping for a room with the Disney Vault, containing Walt Disney's cryogenically frozen body. :P
@Padraig whilst Cinderella's castle in Florida is the least pink looking depending on which paint job it has at the time, (it's something of a moving target in that respect). I would say it is usually more pink than it is tan. Tan just looks weird to me. It's subjective I guess, but for me the template of grey outer walls, pink turrets and blue roofs is how a Disney Park castle looks.
It's an amazing model, but the colour scheme just isn't for me.
does anyone know what coulor the main castle build is, it looks like skin coulor, but it could also be a light pinkisch coulor. or is it just tan.
Hm. The grey base seems to comprise of about ten bricks. That's not Lego.
Isn't the Donald Duck minifigure the same in 71040 as the minifigure in LEGO Minifigures Disney 71012? I can't see the differents
It looks great but too expensive compared to the Big Ben!
@mmottola This includes a big licensing cost.
Batcave was expensive. And Hoth. And The Village. Castle is actually priced somewhere between those sets and GB HQ which had 600 pcs and four minifigs more.
If the Castle was priced like Hoth or Batcave, it'd either have around 3200 pcs or cost $400 at least. All these sets include large panels and plates among smaller pieces so there's not much difference in this regard.
I can't wait to see the pricing of a new Death Star... poor SW fans.
YES YES YES.
@legoverslinder
Looks like tan to me.
A gorgeous Lego castle—this would be the first expensive single build I am considering to splash out on. And I think the color choice communicates the "golden centered" CG castle render that appears before Disney films these days. And the many animated film easter-egg room designs within are a treat.
I just wish the minifigs had more uniques included. Mickey needs to be able to be transformed into the Sorcerer's Apprentice. And the Donald/Daisy pair is a boring, boring inclusion.
@DougTemplar: MONORAIL, MONORAIL, MONORAIL! The Disney Monorail looks especially cool. That would be a GREAT addition. I'm with you, man!
Spectacular!
Cinderella not being included is not surprising to me. She only appears at Cinderella Castle during Cinderella's Royal Table meals. Tinker Bell flies down from the turrets every night during the nighttime show.
"The intricately detailed facade and towers replicate the iconic Walt Disney World® Resort Cinderella Castle..."
If Cinderella Castle is being "replicated", why is the set called "Disney Castle" and not "Cinderella Castle"?
The color representation seems very well done to me. Matches the Orlando castle as close as I would imagine you can get with LEGO. I've only been once, but the color variations I saw were achieved using flood lights and string lights. If you look during the day, the real thing does have that tan/beige tint to the upper portion as depicted here.
I just looked up Disney Paris Castle and yeah, that thing is pink for sure. I guess they modeled it after the Orlando castle? I like it, the only think that puzzles me is why the cylinder structures on the front, under the spires, aren't cylindrical? Why are they using those long tapered slopes to mimic the shape? Maybe it's a scale thing that will make sense when I see it in person...
It's a gorgeous castle, no mistake.
And like the Ninjago Airjitsu village, it's just too large and too expensive for me, so I'll probably pass. I'd love it, though.
I find the piece count quite interesting, too. It does seem like the walls and roofs are built with lots of large pieces, so I'm imagine a quarter of those 4,000 pieces are just 1 x 1 tiles for floors and decoration (because they're *totally* not using a high amount of needless pieces to justify jacking up the price, of course not, don't be silly, Lego would never do that).
Just looked at the detailed pictures and am really impressed with the detail and references crammed into this set, I just wish it included more minifigs. It seems no set is complete these days without some stud shooters thrown in lol!!!
Great castle but very odd colour choice. The included picture on the rear of the box shows just how different the colour really is. Very odd.
That is a nice looking set, cant wait to see it live. I don't plan on buying it because I can never justify the price for a set that really is just too big to do anything with.
I don't really like. The towers in the front look very funny with those huge sloppy slope things.
Also 5 minifigures is a joke.
Thanks Lego you are just sucking every single dollar out of me....seriously GBHQ, Big Ben, Brick Bank and the Excavator and I'm not even going to list all the other sets I've needed from the this years releases...now this
It's a have to have another "precious" to add to my other "precious" ones.
At least when I end up leaving under some bridge, I'll be able to use all my lego to build around me and keep me warm at night.
Hey maybe I'm onto something I should start building Lego shelters???
Oh and yes a Monorail would complete it rather nicely
Just to make it clear, this is modeled after the Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom in Disney World, Florida. That castle does not have any pink on it at all, and is mostly grey all around. There are various light show presentations that project other colors and symbols, but the castle itself is grey. Other than the tan bricks on this model, it is a very accurate representation as far as the exterior goes. The tan is a little different but not completely out of place. Overall a great set.
Nice job Lego But:
1) Wheres the completed backside
2) Goofy, Pluto, Prince Charming, Cinderella
Cool Add-On Ideas:
1) Disneyland Castle USA
2) Monorail
3) Disney Train
4) Disney Main Street USA
How is that mirror constructed? To what are the 1x4 curved parts on the side attached?
Do you think there'll be a second Minifigures series or does LEGO just expect kids to use the Mini-Dolls?
I'll be honest, I think I need to see this one in the flesh before I pass judgment. At first glance I was actually a little disappointed - looks to be too many large pre-formed pieces.
That said, the part-count is >4,000, so there must be detail in there somewhere - I suspect the interior is taking up the bulk of it. Which I get, but I would always prefer to see a more intricate exterior (including a rear) than lots of little rooms.
You know the UK price is going to be very similar to US if exchange rates don't change. Many people forget UK price includes VAT but US price doesn't include sales taxes which vary state to state.
Interesting that the last $349.99 set was £274.99 (Firehouse Headquarters).
This is still $349.99, but £15 dearer in the UK (£289.99).
Other than that: meh. Not a Disney fan and already bagged the GB set.
ok, I'm impressed :) Stunning, great colours - not too much, and yet not too understated. Mini figures are nice, I am into Lego for the building experience, so 5 figures are perfect. Just wow.
I actually think that tan is the best possible choice. Like @monkyby87 said, the only alternative is grey. But it wouldn't look that good, neither that interesting. Pink? For one, it's not the actual color, and the second - no way it'd attract boys or classic castle fans that much. Not to mention a ruined MOC potential and a way greater cost of making many pieces in new color.
I smell a Brickset contest for this!
But this looks like the set to spend the VIP points upon; no Simpsons building this year and no longer a Death Star to dream about. (and it clinches buying the Temple of Airjitsu).
Maybe the Epcot Dome next!
@fulcrumbop: isn't there a new death star supposed to be on its way?
I think this looks amazing. Stunning. I can't wait to get it but I will wait, for double VIP points :-) This will be our most expensive Lego purchase ever, by far, but I do so want it. We have given up eating out in order to afford so much Lego. I think it will be fun to wait for the next Disney minifigure series to get the extra characters.
<3 <3 <3
But I'm not sure if that price is worth it...
Woo 100th comment!
Nice set. Shame about the price and the number of minifigures. This would be a pass for me simply down to the price itself.
I'm clearly a fanboy that likes to defend this set, but I'm not sure if any other price should be expected. The set is quite big and has a lot of detail. Plus, it's a license set. As for people wanting a backside, then it just becomes a display piece even more so than it is currently. I'm sure if it had a backside and no interior people would complain that there's no playability. It will never please everybody no matter what it includes or the price, but I like it :)
Wow, that's a lot of money. But it's an awesome set!
I could jump around I'm so excited. It looks just spectacular. This is where my husband proposed to me right in front of this castle. Now I need to recreate the scene with our Sig figs lol
Predict this being soldout for xmas before restocks are available, and selling for loads
A must have, but it's less pieces than Big Ben, and costs £119.99 more.
Can someone confirm / check that the £289.99 compares with the other currency rates fairly, or are we being over-priced again?
Thanks. Adam K.
Damn. Back soon, off to buy some lotto tickets....this is a must have for me!
It's licensed, and that Disney license ain't cheap, hence the £289.99 pricetag.
I've been wanting a set like this my entire life.
This is the most beautiful thing I've ever laid eyes on.
EVER
I wish I could afford this, the castle is amazing!!!!
I just have to wonder what large "existing" sets may be on their way to retirement. We've seen the Tumbler retired, The Death Star retired... but recently including this now, TLG has introduced a Technics Porsche at $299.99, Creator Big Ben at $249.99, Authentic Batcave under the SuperHeroes line, I believe for around $249.99, The Ghostbusters Firehouse HQ at $349.99 and I could continue. So my question is what is around the corner when it comes to retirements? There is only so much shelf space in Lego stores... so some of the larger existing sets simply have to go. Pet Shop is definitely got a goner, I'd imagine Palace Cinema is not far behind... I'm thinking Sydney Opera House might possibly be in line for retirement. The upcoming VW Beetle could suggest the Mini Cooper may be on it's way out (with Ferrari also current)?!/! These massive sets, while awesome are some pretty large boxes.... Any thoughts?!
For the Monorail lovers, which I am one, I've always thought the 60051-1: High-Speed Passenger Train was a good candidate for an MOC to get it pretty close. I guess if the cars can be shortened, it could work.
Love the set overall, excepting for the huge panels at the bottom. The bricks are a special part of the base of that castle and to "scrimp" by using those huge panels with some stickers is disappointing.
OHHH my goodness I am in love with this set. The detail, all the little references to various Disney movies... I mean, I'm never gonna be able to afford the thing, but it's a real treat to look at, nonetheless. Though if there's one thing that disappoints me...
Can I say, the minifigures? Tinkerbelle is a cool addition, and I completely get Mickey having to be present since he's so iconic, but... I'm sort of "eh" about the rest of the choice. Since we've already had different versions of Minnie, Donald and Daisy in the minifigure packs, after all... well, if it'd been my choice, I would have done three characters from different Disney movies instead of rehashing Mickey's friends again. Just... to make a bit more variety, you know?
I'm definitely going to buy this alongside the Big Ben on the next Double VIP points promotion.
That way I can use VIP points in the purchase AND replenish those points almost immediately.
I definitely don't like this castle...i prefer from far the ninjago temple or big ben this year.
Besides, the set is too expensive (in spite of the disney licence).
I won't buy it :d.
this set would be great for all of those Lego Castle fans. Finally, I found the perfect set to represent it as the Kings Castle. With a few modifications to this set, it would make a great Lego King's Castle. Everything about this set is very appealing. Thanks Lego for another great set!
I like it!
BTW:
Is that a new butcher knife hanging in the kitchen area?...
Or was it introduced already?
Disney+Lego Castle=magic!!!
I have been waiting for this set: both the size and detail do justice to the atmosphere you breathe in Disney's parks around the world.
Nevertheless I really do not get why Marcos - will all respect - had to alter the cylindrical shape of the external towers by adding those 45301 wedges. They look ugly. I will need to MOD this ; ))
A must buy,
Ciao
