Yesss!! Will be picking up those Brickheadz soon!
This ugly photo is fortunately not valid anymore.
Ghost sharks!
Have already ordered all three LEGO sets from Shop.LEGO.com :D
I usually go for Lego Ships but this one hasn't tickled my fancy yet. I'll await Bricksets's review so that I can see detailed photos before i make my decision on this set.
Such a shame they aren't doing any regular sets for it. Neither the ship nor the Brickheadz interest me, but I'd love me some new pirate-y sets. Ah well.
Have to say I loved the Brother's Brick review of the Silent Mary ( http://www.brothers-brick.com/2017/03/09/lego-pirates-caribbean-dead-men-tell-no-tales-71042-silent-mary-exclusive-review/ ). They reiterated over and over: "this is a decaying and damaged ghost ship, not a pirate ship". Very amusing ;o)
They are great looking sets, but I'm going to pass on them
16.3. - double VIP points ends
17.3. - Silent Mary available
Well, what a coincidence!
YOWZERS! £179 pounds (real money) and a further 99 whole pennies. Don't Lego do affordable toys anymore? Boohoo! Sob! Don't like it anyway :o(
Legoitis, aged 47 and three quarters.
Those sharks are gonna make this set a lot harder to ignore.
Want the Silent mary, a lot...but saving the pennies for the UCS sets...
Looks awful, and I still think some hull, even a "damaged looking" hull may have helped given the stability it needs.........the sharks though....
Somehow the scale of the model is not right. I guess it is meant to be minifig scale but the decorated (cannon?-) towers, cannons, doors and other details are way smaller whereas the lookouts, crow's nest and helm are scaled perfectly fine. Moreover it's rather poor that the captain's cabin can't be accessed. The model as a whole looks impressive and the colurs are well-chosen, it's just it reminds me of a U.S.S. Constellation (398) with minifigs.
Are there going to be any regular PotC sets (like in 2011)? I will be disappointed if aren't. :(
Hoping for a new pirate ship and Lego gave us a used one instead.
What sharks? I didn't see any in the images. Anyway, I want to have sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads!
;-)
Oh come on. You surely don't miss those Big Ugly Hull Pieces anymore? We've had them. Time and time again.
Fantastic looking set. I wonder how the Silent Mary will look rearing up against the Queen Anne's Revenge, as seen in the Super Bowl trailer.
Finally, a pirate ship that is roughly the same size as the Imperial Flagship from five years ago. Sure it is a pirate-ghost ship, but that is fine with me. I've been using the Queen Anne's Revenge as the rival to the Flagship, but I think this one will be a step up thanks to the double decks of cannons (even if they are cheap, dumb cannons). And ghost sharks. Need I really say more?
The ghost sharks are incredible, never thought we'd get actual moulds of them, they could have easily just given us the large shark moulds with skeletal printing but no, they went with a cool physical interpretation. Most impressive!
I wonder how much the set the set might have cost without bespoke ghostly shark moulds? £150 would have seemed quite a bit more affordable, or at most £160. £180 just seems like a step too far for me to consider unless I can use some sort of a discount.
I'd love to see this model 'in the flesh' because I feel like I'd have a much better idea of the overall shape and size in comparison to other models.
Looks like a bunch of 15967 parts could be added to patch the hull, could make for some really interesting MOCs
@datsunrobbie
Going to be attempting that, i have about 40 of them at the moment - but issue is it'd take about another 100 or so to get close to having a complete hull.
I had a moment to see the Silent Mary at a Lego shop today. In person it looks 1000x better than the pictures. I had not realized quite how big it is. It has a very broad beam. It actually looks more shiplike than I was expecting. I'm almost afraid with its better proportions, some of the other ships will look a bit toylike next to it. Really if you have the chance, try and get a look at the actual model before passing judgement. I was not expecting it to look as good as it does.
@TransNeonOrangeSpaceman Unfortunately, no! This set and the brickheadz will be it.
The best models look better in real life than any photo can make them look. So the comment above makes me very hopeful. I will probably pick it up during the next double VIP points promotion.
Thank goodness @Faefrost - I am so hoping you are right ! I so want to like the ship....
Saw the Silent Mary at a Lego shop yesterday and I agree completely with @Faefrost, it looks MUCH better in person. The ghost sharks and the unique ghost minifigs also make this way more desirable, imo. I'm still on the fence about it because $200 is still quite a bit, but seeing it in person made the decision harder, not easier (prior to seeing it, I was at a pretty hard skip on it.)
I wasnt impressed by the photos. Then I saw it in real life an it was a no brainer. My weekend plans are now arranged......Build time.
I actually like the torn hull not only for being realistic to the trailers, but I think it gives it a more ghost-like look.
The brickheadz are interesting, but i am more interested in that Silent Mary set. I will look forward to collecting this on my birthday. I was very disappointed to find out the set had no interior of any kind and is not even minifig scale. Since i use microfigs for play and display (because it increases the size of things) I will simply update the roof(s) in order to lift upand add interior. With some minor updgrades, this looks like a great set.
