Modular Train Track Switches on Kickstarter.

Do you love trains? I do! Unfortunately, the ability to build complex layouts out of standard LEGO tracks are limited by a scarce few crossover track pieces. Luckily for train fans, there is a new project on Kickstarter with several modular cross and switch track sections. These are 3D-printed by none other than community member Lowa, the person who reinvented LEGO monorail systems. These parts are fully compatible with standard train track, and sure to spice up any train layout. So go ahead, check them out on their Kickstarter page. You may wish to hurry, though - they reached their goal in under five hours.

Here's a selection of what you can get for the $22 pledge (pick 2). Looks like mostly switch and intersection segments. I must admit, without these parts in front of me, I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the modular track.

The more expensive pledges, like always, are where things get fun. I think you can tell what most of these do from the picture, but one track section really catches my eye: the Double Crossover. The Double Crossover is similar to the Double Crossover Rail - Half that LEGO made once back in 2007, but much more versatile (and about 1/2 the cost!).

Want more train goodness? 4DBrix also created a train automation program for train enthusiasts. This program allows you to plan out your track layouts digitally ahead of time, saving you whole-table redos when your tracks don't connect like you thought. And the best part of all? It's every LEGO fan's favorite price: Free! Check it out on their website here.

but it LOOKS genuine...

Pretty expensive, though. The "Hosenträger" are nice, it is a shame Lego does not produce tracks like these themselves (anymore).

Ha ha! Sorry, I didn't realize what today was when I posted this. This is indeed GENUINE.

Its a pitty this doesn't exist in 9v compatible, the "continuous curve switch" looks really useful.

At the moment, these are just for RC trains, unfortunately. The maker of these tracks has been asked about that several times, but it just isn't cost-effective to make metal track at the moment.

these are great. but what I REALLY need are wider radius curves.

By in Canada,

These are 3d printed and not injection molded, so I'm very doubtful if the quality. Why not just release the print files?
