Star Wars Battlefront II
Posted by CapnRex101,Star Wars Battlefront II will be released in November and plenty of footage has emerged over the last few days as we approach E3 2017. Star Wars Battlefront received a mixed reception in 2015 but yielded two excellent Battle Packs and I am hoping that the upcoming video game will also form the basis for a couple of sets.
This installment encompasses characters, vehicles and locations from across the entire Star Wars saga so there is plenty of material from which LEGO might draw inspiration, particularly where Battle Packs are concerned.
Scenes from the Prequel Trilogy were absent from the 2015 Star Wars Battlefront video game but they return this year, introducing a range of new troop classes for both the Republic and the Separatists. Clone Troopers appear sporting both their first and second phase armour in the game and it seems plausible that they might feature in a Battle Pack since standard Clone Troopers have hardly been seen in recent years. For instance, plain Phase II troopers like that shown on the right of the image below have only appeared three times since the Revenge of the Sith sets were released in 2005 so we are definitely due for an updated version.

Other kinds of Clone Troopers include the specialist, the heavy trooper and the jet trooper, each of whom uses unique weaponry and is distinguished by wearing different equipment. Battle Packs are often at their best when they strike a balance between standard soldiers and unusual minifigures so I would definitely be excited to see a set including two Clone Troopers alongside a Heavy Trooper and a Jet Trooper. That would surely provide appropriate variety as well as the potential for army building.

The Separatist forces comprise a similarly impressive variety of troop types. Specialists feature red highlights and wield sniper rifles while heavy units employ repeating blaster cannons. Battle Droids appear in many sets but a decade has passed since 7654 Droids Battle Pack was released so it might be nice to see another. Perhaps the set could include a Super Battle Droid and some specialised units in addition to the standard figures, although I cannot imagine that such a set would prove as popular as a new Clone Trooper Battle Pack.

Star Wars Battlefront II also features characters and planets from the Original and Sequel Trilogies. The recent Rogue One Battle Packs have covered the Rebel and Imperial forces fairly well while 75132 First Order Battle Pack includes a pleasing selection of First Order soldiers. The 2017 Battle Packs have been split between January and June so I anticipate a similar schedule might be laid out next year, in which case an initial focus upon Prequel Trilogy products would be welcome in my opinion.

The game also features an extensive single player campaign focused upon Iden Versio, commander of the elite Inferno Squadron. Her storyline will form part of Star Wars canon and I would be very interested to see a set featuring some Imperial special forces troopers. The first trailer exhibited the Corvus, a light Raider-class Corvette intended for use against Rebel starfighters. It seems unlikely that such a large vessel would form the basis for an official model given the comparatively low marketability of products based on Star Wars Battlefront II, although it would certainly interest me!

Are you excited for Star Wars Battlefront II and which characters or vehicles would you most like to see in LEGO? Let us know in the comments.

I would love battlepacks based on the prequels!
I'm excited to see what Lego products are born from the new game, as the first was so successful at bringing about great minifigures and sets that we wouldn't have had without it. Very glad that Battlefront II will include a single player story mode, which I felt was the most lacking feature from Battlefront. For those who never play the game online or in multi-player mode, the content was very lacking; and especially lacking in flying missions. I hope Battlefront II improves on these issues, and having a single player story line based on a TIE Fighter Pilot will surely help to bring about more flying missions. Although, I'd rather have had a Rebel Fighter Pilot to choose from. The Empire is successful enough at oppressing the galaxy far, far away without my help.
I'd be happy with any new troopers of any sort.
ELH2806, agreed. It would also be good for story mode sets
Already sketched up some ideas for a Corvus MOC. I love that ship.
What about a set based on the story mode side? Battle Packs sounds cool though
Inferno squad, clone troopers phase 1,2, palpatine projecting droid, seps- anything would be good for me! Sucker for prequel stuff as much as new era
Cool! I even brought this up on the official BF II forums, if you wish to take a gander...

Yeah, with The Last Jedi and The Force Awakens (and the OT that inspire them) putting the most emphasis on the current lineup of sets, Battlefront II could help to shift the balance a little bit! With a heavy emphasis on the Clone Wars, sets based on the likes of Theed, Kamino, Kashyyyk, Geonosis, and more would be awesome! I for one would like a decent AT-RT, or a Vulture Droid that can actually be posed to scuttle around... but there's so much to think about, I'm excited!
Was there no Battlefront II yet? I can remember buying the second game or was that an update of the first?
Oh boy, oh boy! Send in the Clones, I want some more! Now, hopefully LEGO will pause the stud shooters for a little. ;)
I also strongly agree that The Lego Group needs to make more battle packs with clone troopers (501st would be awesome!).
I'd personally prefer to see battle packs based on the original Battlefront 2. This game is sticking a lot closer to official designs, while the original had some unusual and very iconic trooper designs, like the Galactic Marine. It would also be nice if Lego were to focus a little more on providing a variety of weapons, as these are another essential cornerstone of the Battlefront series, and just four stud shooters or whatever won't really suffice.
I would LOVE to see an Inferno Squad battle pack!
I would love to see any figures that we haven't seen over and over again. I think any phase I or II clones would great. I know we haven't seen them in battlefront, but considering the first map teased is Theed, I would love to see a Gungan battlepack/set. I would like to see lego remake that Kaddu's and finally make a Boss Nass minifigure. I welcome anything that is pre trilogy. Especially if it's army builders or fills in the missing gaps (Kamino & Jango's Slave I, Peranaki Arena, Utapau, Kashyyyk, Cloud City)
Yea! I love star wars battlefront. Seems to be a good time to get Ps4, i am pretty sure it will be realesed to Ps4. It would be wierd if not.
A very unexpected but welcomed analysis. I would like: the Corvous, an Inferno Squad Tie Fighter, a Tie Bomber a few Imp/Rep/Sep/Reb BP.
I could go for a battle pack that was just four stormtroopers, but I care little for the prequel trilogy and Disney's fanfilms have been abysmal thus far, so that would be it for me. Proper stormtroopers have been a pain to accumulate inexpensively.
bit of a long shot but I hope the Death Trooper Dropship from Rogue One features in the game giving it more of a chance of becoming a set. Note also there is more of the FO Snowspeeder in this trailer than in TFA.
@Brick_Knight - it will definitely be released on PS4, no doubt about that.
@joemmo - The Jakku quadjumper has been made into a set and that was only in the force awakens for five seconds , so there might be a chance for the death trooper dropship to be made into a set
Needs more battle droids
Battle packs are awesome! Can't wait to see what Lego releases!
@sanderkoenen: That was the original Battlefront II, I'd say the best of the series.
Star Wars strike again with their unintelligible numbering system!
I'd like to see battle packs based on heroes and villians rather than simple troopers this time round. Especially seeing as how Darth Maul is going to be in this one
If the Bounty Hunter Pack this year established any sort of precedent I too would love a heroes only set of battle packs. Though having missed out on the whole clone trooper period I would also love packs with tons of 501st and lots of battle droids.
My ideal battle pack would probably be something like this:
Rebel Transport Speeder Battle Pack
Minifigures - Rebel Trooper, Rebel Technician, Red Leader, and General Dodonna.
The set would include a Rebel Transport Speeder from A New Hope as they have never been properly depicted in LEGO and come with R5-K6, the Death Star Plans (As a Printed 1x1 Tile) and some Cargo.
I feel like there's a good opportunity here to make a more extensive push into video game tie in sets than the first rebooted Battlefront. The initial battle packs were nice, but it would be good to have at least one or two sets with the key characters - a bit like when the Rogue Shadow was released for the Force Unleashed videogame (no longer canon, but it sort of wasn't anyway because it had different endings).
Just a single well-judged set (which could be the Corvus) with good minifigures such as Iden would definitely be a winner. Judging by the difficulty TLG had in pushing Rebels sets though, it could be (or may have already been) a challenge.
Out of preference I would still prefer to see the TIE Reaper and cargo ship from Rogue One first though!
I really hope LEGO brings a battle pack with Iden Versio and a Raider-Class Corvette
I played EA Star Wars Battlefront (from 2015) too and I'm really excited for Star Wars Battlefront II! I've bought the rebel battlepack which was inspired by Battlefront 1 and I'll probably buy some Battlefront II themed LEGO sets too! (and I just realized that I probably have the two most expensive hobbies on the world :P)
I definitely want to see more Clone Wars sets, but sets based on the story-mode would also be awesome!
