Review: 5004936 Iconic Cave
Posted by Huw,
5004936 Iconic Cave is currently free with purchases over £25/30€/$50 at shop.LEGO.com.
It's the third minifig-in-a-box set, following last year's 5004468 Iconic Easter Minifigure and 5005156 Gingerbread Man.
This one, however, contains two minifigs, both of which are unique to it, rather than being straight copies of collectable minifigures.
The packaging is almost as important as what's inside it, so let's take a closer look.
The sleeve is slipped off to reveal the cave-shaped box.
The box is printed with some cool decorations: brick-built heart above the door, washing hanging out to dry, and a lost dinosaur poster round the back.
Perforations around the door allow it to be opened to expose the inhabitants.
They come pre-assembled (what a boring job that must be for someone in China!) and are held in place with a plastic tray. They are actually quite difficult to remove.
They are both printed with typical caveman attire and armed with clubs.
The female has back printing, the male not.
Although these are unique figures they are based on 8683 Caveman from collectable minifigs series 1 and 8805 Cave Woman from series 5, shown in the picture below to the left and right.
The male in this set has a similar, but not exactly the same, print design, while the that on the female's torso and legs appears to be identical to the CMF's.
However, both are printed in different colours, and they have different colour hair, as is plain to see.
Overall, then, this is great gift with purchase which is available for a low spending threshold. The box is great -- almost too good to open -- and the figures superb. They are particularly desirable if you don't have the CMF versions.
You have until the end of August, or while stocks last, to acquire it, so if you haven't already secured yours, place an order today:

I look forward to receiving it with my Ninjago City.
Great review, glad I've got one of these cool little sets!
Cool! Cavemen! Cavemen are Excellent!
Got this with Ninjago City - not the greatest freebie but I never owned the originals, so decent enough I guess.
What colour does the cavewoman's hair have? Is it dark red or what?
@Yooha Appears to be brown.
Neat little set, got mine yesterday, no debating whether or not to get up to the LEGO store to get another.
If I was already ordering, sure. But otherwise I don't need to order specifically to receive these since they are so similar. Although I wouldn't mind having a dark brown bushy hair/beard combo instead of only black. Although it was nice of LEGO to not change his face so he still has dark black bushy eyebrows...
I already have it and thanks very much for devaluating your cave while mine isnt so far devaluated. Lego should do this more often with the figures in their CMF line.
So I've got this coming, and I already own the Easter minifigure-in-a-box... I might as well pick up the gingerbread man to complete my collection?
@Lordmoral Haha, it's no fun if you keep it in mint condition!
I think Lego could be more creative with these gifts. The box is a bit naff and the design is a little unexciting. I think their collectable-ness is the only attraction here which is a bit of a fail for a company that takes pride in the quality of its outputs. Sure, you get it for free for a relatively low value but it's not like your extracting value for your purchase as lego shop prices are rarely competative.
I'm surprised not to see major complaints above. This has absolutely zero appeal to me.
A cute little item, nice bonus if considering an LEGO.com order anyway. Nice to see remakes of old CMFs for those of us who weren't into LEGO at that time
