Review: 5004939 The LEGO Batman Movie Minifigure Collection
Posted by CapnRex101,
Batman is equipped with appropriate attire for every crime-fighting eventuality in The LEGO Batman Movie and his vast range of suits are highly collectable. 5004939 The LEGO Batman Movie Minifigures may therefore prove to be the most popular of the new Bricktober minifigure packs as it contains four such Batsuits.
Minifigures
Bruce Wayne's fabulous wealth is reflected in the guise of Dollar Bill Tuxedo Batman. This minifigure sports a standard black cowl with a garish green suit which is perhaps intended to blend in among casino patrons. The dollar bill printed design looks brilliant from every angle and covers almost the entire figure, including the arms and the sides of the legs!
Fortunately, the printing lines up perfectly at the seams and Batman comes equipped with a printed 1x2 dollar bill tile to match his extravagant attire. Removing the cowl reveals a stern expression on one side of the head and a cocksure grin on the other, the latter of which seems like an ideal match for this particular suit.
Easter Batman first appeared in the form of a key light but is now available as a traditional minifigure too. He wears a large pair of rabbit ears which are cast in bright light blue for the first time and feature some pink printing on the inner surface of each ear. The torso and legs are also bright light blue in colour, casting doubt upon Batman's assertion that he 'only works in black and sometimes very, very dark grey'.
This minifigure includes a new head which features a black mask over the eyes and a grim expression, the latter of which seems to reflect Batman's attitude to wearing such a colourful suit! The white utility belt looks splendid and a basket containing a dark azure egg completes the figure in appropriately silly fashion. It is worth noting that the key light version of Easter Batman wears a pink cape and gloves but he looks fine without them in my opinion.
Wizbat appears in The LEGO Batman Movie: The Making of the Movie alongside many other Batsuits which featured only very briefly in the film. There his cowl is shown with a wizard's hat on top but here Batman wears his traditional headgear along with a pronounced dark blue collar. This is made from a fairly stiff fabric while the longer cape covering the torso and legs is much softer so does not become too creased in the packaging.
Batman's robe is decorated with white bats and features an attractive golden trim down the centre. A bat-shaped pendant is also printed on the front of the torso while the back is left blank, although this is covered by the cape anyway. The minifigure wields a black staff with a bat fitted on top. It looks a little plain to me but this is easily rectified by the addition of a golden 1x1 round plate with a hollow stud beneath the bat.
The last of the four minifigures included is Baturion. Here the Caped Crusader is dressed to resemble a Roman soldier so features a black cuirass, a dark red tunic and a matching cape as well as a black helmet which more closely resembles those worn by Greek hoplites than Roman troops. Nevertheless, it looks absolutely brilliant and I am sure this element will therefore prove very popular for fantasy characters given its intimidating colour.
Areas of Batman's face remain visible through the helmet so he wears a mask over his eyes and the head is reversible, including two different expressions. I like the metallic gold bat insignia printed on Batman's torso and the texture of the tunic around the waist looks great as well, especially since it continues onto either side of the legs.
Baturion is armed with a pearl gold gladius and a black scutum. The former has only appeared once before in 79017 The Battle of the Five Armies while the latter features a unique printed design which reflects the obsession of its owner. Bat emblems cover the shield and an exposed stud in the centre, representing the boss, leaves room to attach some sort of gadget if you wish.
Overall
This is definitely my favourite of the four Bricktober minifigure packs. All four figures are highly detailed and match the high standard set by other Batsuits found in the Collectable Minifigures range as well as the standard sets. It would have been lovely to see Easter Batman's cape included to match the key light but I think the figure looks excellent even without this additional accessory.
The circumstances surrounding the availability of this minifigure pack seem to vary quite considerably around the world but the UK price of £14.99 seems reasonable to me and I would recommend purchasing a set if you are able to find them. The four figures look marvellous on display beside Batman's other suits and their creative designs are a lot of fun.

I also bought this set and while I am very happy to have more Lego Batman figures, I was somewhat disappointed that the brick clutch power seemed to be worse than usual (particularly WizBat's skirt) and that they don't actually match the movie.
- WizBat should have turquoise lining on his robe and a gold bat on his staff
- Easter Bat should have a cape (as mentioned), pink hands, the egg shouldn't be azure (either light blue, pink or white, not sure), and for some reason doesn't have an alternate face print (like all the rest).

They're closer to the 'making of' book:

"a cocksure grin" lol Must be a European expression.
Looking at them closer they are a fantastic addition to the minifig series for TLBM,
Particularly dollar bill and roman soldier batman, 10/10 lego,
I only wish the boxer suit batman with purple gloves was in this collection instead of in the 6/10 batcave
Picked mine up today and they look great. If you're having trouble locating some, the newly refurbished Toy R Us near Brent Cross opened today and have loads on the shelves.
@TacoBill Thanks I was going to go Brent cross today but as I was passing by Watford I picked them up in the toys r us there. Will visit Brent cross though so I can fetch up a few more
Wow! The designers really did think everything!
Easter Bat wears pink gloves and cape in the movie, not merely the keychain, so saying that "it looks fine without them" for a collectible set for the source movie is beside the point. So I grabbed hands from an extra Nurse Harley and a cape from an extra Pink Power Batgirl—though being that shiny likely doesn't match the source, either (at least from the vantage shown).
Baturion should come with a red bat-scalloped cape, too, were it accurate to the source movie.
@Nintynuts: Good eye on the Wizbat robe trim and staff emblem. Though odd that the DK book doesn't name all the costumes with the same more-funny/clever labels used in the film—and adds a wizard's pointed hat to Wizbat that is absent in the film.
Batman sure knows how to dress himself.
The Manchester ancoats store had sold out yesterday. I expect there is no limit to how many can be bought so greedy traders are buying them all and selling on eBay for a few pounds profit. Will try another store next week but I expect they’ll all be gone by then.
@quixotequest - It is true that the minifigures are not perfect but promotional items like this will have a strict restriction on the number of new parts and prints permitted so I think the inaccuracies are excusable.
Nifty set and my oldest son loved it when we picked ours up. Good review and nice to know the minor oddities/differences between them and the movie (and keychain for the Bunny suit).
Great review! Are you going to review the other Bricktober minifig packs as well?
I didn’t know you can purchase this outright in other regions. In Sweden it’s a TRU exclusive given away for free if you spend about €65 on Lego. It’s a good deal.
You should show the box as it’s nicely done to hold each of the figures.
Ooooo, I want this!
And areas, where is no toys r us, you can only dream about this.... Local prices rose - by blackmarket importers - above 50$... outrageous
In Canada (like Sweden ^^^) they were only available as a free with purchase promo, so nobody can (legitly anyway) show up and buy them all up.
Definitely my favourite of the four packs this year, and probably all the TRU Bricktober minifigure packs to date.
Anyone going to bricklive at Nec in U.K. Can get these and the rest of the bricktober sets at the toys r us at the show.
I have this set. Absolutely love it!
So cool! But I missed it. :( Hopefully I can find one for a decent price somewhere.
In Australia, it was a TRU exclusive, and they sold out in about 30 seconds.
There are shed loads of them in the Preston Toys R Us Store. Must have counted at least 50 boxes on the shelves of all the bricktober sets, and according to one of the staff, they had more out back in the storeroom.
I just wish they'd done the pink cape and gloves on the Easter suit.
Awesome...still waiting to get mine. I've been trying to get as many Bat Suits as possible and found quite a few besides the 20 Movie CMF one's.
Bat-Money, Bat-Bunny, Bat-Mage and Baturion! Need 'em!!!
Gonna' swap the hands on Bat-Money and go black and put the flesh hands on Bat-Bunny.
i wonder does TRU own the rights to this or TLG ultimately. With TRU going bust boom kaboom .. can TLG re-issue in the future? maybe they can issue in a different colour (white rabbit)
great set. got it too. but what i really miss is green batmask for the momeysuit batman and a diffrent mask for the batwiz and a second faceprint for bunnybats. what i like the most is the shield of the centurionbats and the whole bunnysuit, this lightblu looks so akward and cool!
Got the last one in Chandler AZ, and it rang up at $20. I got the Classic set as a freebie since I also picket up a second Ninjago display. It will soon be a Batman display, if anyone can suggest suitable paint.
Plenty in Portsmouth but fewer than the other three.
I regret not getting this a few weeks ago, but I REALLY hate the TRU near me, and it's the only one near me. :(
Hey Huw, et al, not sure if you want to make this wider known, but TRU in Oxford just told me that next month, these packs will be free gifts with LEGO spends over £55 (it may have been £50, I cant remember) if there are any left. He says Batman is selling faster than the others. Hope that helps some ppl
@CapnRex101
The pink minifigure hands exist in two minifigures already (quite recent):
https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=983&colorID=47&in=A
(or https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=983&colorID=104&in=A )
and the cape (also recent, and batman themed): https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=56630b&colorID=47&in=A
so easter bat could have been more accurate (egg is only in 3 existing colours, white would be closest), just the gold coloured bat for Wiz-bat would be new. All the parts have new prints on, so the inaccurate print colours aren't due to restrictions, just working off the wrong artwork (the concept art that ended up in the book, not the final designs).
Got this at Bricklive in Birmingham yesterday. I don't know if they run the same deals in stores but at the toys r us pop up shop you could stack deals. So I ended up with a free batman minifig set, Christmas tree, jungle ATV and batman battle pod :) Love all these batman suits and can't wait for next year' s CMF series
The brickshow "reviewed" these using all the images in your post here. :

Still loads of all four on the shelves in Chesterfield.
If anyone is able to pick this up for me for £15 in the UK, I'd be very grateful. Will obviously cover postage etc. Thank you!
This is a really awesome lot of figs!
