May the Fourth offers announced!
Posted by CapnRex101,The LEGO spring 2018 catalogue has been made available in North America and reveals several of the promotions which will be taking place over the upcoming May the Fourth weekend.
These include the following:
- 40288 BB-8 free with purchases of over $75 (4th May)
- Double VIP points will be available with the purchase of most Star Wars sets (4th - 6th May)
- Selected Star Wars products will be discounted by up to 20% (4th - 6th May)
40288 BB-8 certainly seems to be the most exciting of these offers and I am confident that it will be available worldwide, although we do not currently know what the spend threshold will be outside the US. Double VIP points and discounts on certain sets will probably apply around the world too.
Will you be taking advantage of these promotions and what May the Fourth offers would you like to see in future? Let us know in the comments.

I wish that they would go back to the figures. As nice as these builds look, they're nowhere NEAR the appeal of the figs.
Another "meh" year for May the 4th.
See I saw this BB8 the other day and thought it was likely to be the May 4th offer. I had hoped I was wrong. It is a lovely looking build don't get me wrong but I would be more inclined to make a May 4th purchase for something that adds to or compliments our collection.
Even though I love star wars, it's an easy pass. No doubt the Y - Wing will be excluded from double points anyway.
I am looking forward to the new y-wing fighter, UCS version. I still have the original version from 2004 still unopened. I think the new version looks better, and includes a pilot in the version.
Is it known which sets won't be getting the double VIP points?
My guess is UCS Millennium Falcon and UCS Y-wing will be excluded.
This BB8 could be cool next to last year R2. And discounts or VIP points x2 are good also, even if a bit usual. But the matter is : which sets to buy, knowing that none of what I have seen for the moment is really exciting or must have in my opinion? I'm not ready to buy sets I don't really want just to get another polybag any more. Even if 80€ or so is an easy reach talking about a lego SW order. And I also sincerely hope (even if I don't have it) that Black VIP card specific promotions will soon make an appearance for their "lucky" owners, because we're now on April and it has given nothing but promises made months ago when Lego launched its super 75192 teasing... If nothing really special and good comes on May, this Black Card will end as a rip off. The only advantage of having it is... To have it. I guess owners wait and deserve more substantial advantages. Come on Lego, don't push me to turn my back on you. I want you to show me I'm wrong.
Edit : apologies for negative comments and mood to you BS users and team members, I guess I 'm a bit upset and angry with TLG this evening :) A good night of sleep and tomorrow is another day. With more patience and tolerance maybe.
All i want to know is why i bought the new falcon and the "special VIP card" for exclusive offers I have yet to receive... ( mind the 2x VIP points that happened once)... May the fourth please be nice :)
Agreed on the black VIP card... what a disappointment thus far! The way they advertised it ("special offers throughout the year") I was expecting cool stuff on a regular cadence (monthly or every other month). I was really jazzed about the idea of exclusive figures to complement the Falcon (e.g. Nien Numb). All just wishful thinking at this point though.
I think I want the Vader Pod more than the BB-8 so short of the double points why wait till May? I also agree with Fuelbreak Special VIP card has been total CRAP! Offers all year? We will be a 1/3 of the year over with 1 time double points? Does anyone know what else is coming with the card?
Who's to bet the First Order AT-ST will be on discount, Lego just can't sell them
Double VIP for "most"? What I'm reading is the UCS Y-Wing that drops that day will not have double VIP points, but I am hoping I'm mistaken!
******* BREAKING NEWS *******
Quadruple VIP points on 75192 UCS Millennium Falcon confirmed for May The Fourth.
ADDITIONAL NEWS FOLLOWS:
75192 UCS Millennium Falcon is...
******* 100% CONFIRMED *******
...to be out of stock for duration of promotion.
Oh it may be a "cheap" May the Fourth: Sandspeeder, Tatooine Battle Pack, x2 Imperial Speeder BP, Han Solo speeder (goes well in a civillian environment) and let's see if I find something else.
Even if the new UCS Y-Wing were to be included in the double VIP points, you can guarantee that it'll be out of stock within an hour at best. You'd think that Lego would have learnt from the mistakes with the Falcon and Saturn V... Unless of course it's a deliberate marketing ploy?
Would rather have the darth vader battle pod for U. K may the 4th this is OK but the Darth vader pod and Buildable polybag R2-D2 was better..
Bummer! I really wanted that BB8 the moment I saw him in the brickset database, but $75! I think I’m just going to wait till this is at a reasonable price on bricklink.
The uk promos are more than likely Double VIP points on Star Wars, 10% off sw sets and free BB8 with purchases over £50 or £60
I wish they would go back to minifigs. Some CW or Legends figs would be great
I think definitely the black card should give you access to cool stuff, but not exclusivity as some have mentioned, considering most of us who wanted the MF couldn't get it before the end of the promotion. Even then, I am not a fan of exclusivity - I would prefer early access or free stuff for the holders.
However, Lego do need to send some stuff out to those of you who were lucky enough to get one in 2017.
Black VIP members need to remember that there's a good chance the promotions won't be printed and marketed heavily to the general public - the only reason we found out about the only offer so far (x2 VIP points) was because Black Card users reported it from their emails. We'll probably have to wait until much closer to the time to find out what/whether we get something
I have a catalog. Double VIP points exclude the Y-Wing and Falcon, as expected.
That mid-scale BB-8 will look GREAT next to the buildable TLJ and TFA figures... just sayin'.
While it definitely is a cool little set, i prefered the exclusive minifigs. Darth Revan... *swoon*
@AgentR2 You realise you’re spending $75 on $75’s worth of Lego and just get that on top right? What’s this ‘reasonable peice’ you’re on about? It’s called a free gift for a reason, you’re not obligated to spend money on Lego you don’t want purely for a small poly bag build.
I could be tempted by the 75144 Snowspeeder.
If the Solo sets come out mid April, will the other releases such as Jurassic World or Incredables 2 be the same?
I am really curious when the LEGO Star Wars Poster for The Last Jedi is coming out. As a collector, I’ve collected all of the posters (1-7)
and I thought for sure it would be available for May the 4th weekend! If anyone heard anything about it please let me know!
BB-8 sucks it should have been this:

the thing looks horrible (seriously), so if i am buying anything for 4th May then it could be some decent discounts (hopefully).
Missed the UCS Y-Wing (one of my favorite ships) telegram first time because it was during my second dark age. (I’m old enough to have fallen into two. Early 90s and early 2000s.) I’ll be ordering this as soon as it’s available. BB-8 is just a nice bonus.
Oooh wow a bionicle scale BB-8. Excellent, I'll buy it to go with my UCS BB-8, my minifig BB-8, and my Belville fig BB-8. Hold onto your hats fellas, this is gonna be big.
Hey wait a minute, am I going insane?

To be honest, I am not surprised about the "Meh" character of this year's offerings. I have got the large BB8 already, as well as several Minifig-size ones, so I'm not really excited about this one, even though it would go well with the R2-D2 of the same size.
And 20% off? Unless this includes the MF (which of course it won't) I will spend my money elsewhere. Like I predicted, 2018 up to now turns out to be a very wallet-friendly year for me Lego-wise.
I wait for May the 4th every year to make large Lego Star Wars purchases. I'll just go with 20% off the sets I want somewhere else if there is no exclusive min-fig.
@CapnRex101 - Small typo, but it seems the set is 40288, not 40228. The URL is correct, but the text in the article needs to be updated.
