This looks amazing. You could even say everything in it looks... awesome.
That looks absolutely fantastic - truly awesome.
Can't wait to see more. I wonder when we'll get a peak at the first wave of sets to go with it.
Finally!
Spaceship. Spaceship! SPACESHIP!!!
Epic!
Wow.
“Hello Sewer Babies”
Well okay then LEGO
SO much potential for new parts and sets here! Great use of the mini-doll as "aliens"! I feel like the post-apocalyptic setting is only at the outset. It's way too bleak for a movie like this to spend too much time there.
We're going to Heartlake City, aren't we? SQUEE.
If they're smart, the DC Superhero Girls will show up so we can see Arnett's Batman react to them.
Look forward to the sets relating to the sequel, as the trailer was brilliant, i wonder if thats just Olivia from lego friends under that helmet or Mia? lol..
Hi sewer babies...
awesome, just awesome
This looks absolutely amazing, I can't wait for this. Seems like it retains the craziness and heart of the first movie while still doing something new - I had a smile on my face the whole time watching this.
I really hope the film ends with the children playing with both the regular LEGO and the minidolls; that would be a poignant statement about gender roles and letting kids play with things however they want, and would be absolutely lovely.
Everything is AWESOME!!!!
A brick built lego Movie as we like to see! In haste to get more of this and go to the theater in family and have a great and fun moment for sure. It looks like some alien minidolls (Friends?) with their colorful and so " love-ish" universe are coming and will perturb and unsettle Emmet's awesome and so predictable perfect world? And I am sure the designers made the movie so that it will provide most expected and collectible sets. In haste to discover the whole!
Finally, Mad Max inspired Lego!!!!!!!!
Can we expect sets that include both Minidolls and Minifigures? And Minidolls in a CMF series?
I'm getting excited. My kids are upset though- they want to see it right now!
I am happy. Let's hope Battlebeastkitty will be a set.
they appear to have improved the already astonishing animation!
Did anybody get that the si-star system sounds an awful lot like sister system? I think we’re definitely getting into boy vs girl play style differences.
Woow..... Oooh..... Aaah.
Edit: Also, as people were wondering about how the mini-doll character will walk, you can occasionally see her hopping
To me, it looks like Emmets going to encourage everyone to not be so tough using his cheerfulness and get them to work together to win, probably make peace with the mini-doll character (with awesome wings), and make everything awesome again.
Edit: Speaking of everything being awesome the song that Emmet is listening to has everything is awesome mixed into it.
I'm very happy to say that my high expectations have been met, and even overpassed :) Only slightly disapointed that although the mad max look of the beginning will probably make for a great movie there will be few sets to come out of that which I can use in my city. Really don't need a Barbarian Barista in my coffee shop... Or a blown up looking section of town lol.
Ps. Bonus points for not being a musical!
Pps. Double bonus points for sewer babies! LMAO!
Not sure I'd like a 'rescue' storyline, would prefer a team up like in the first movie. If anything, this will give a particularly vocal subsection of the internet loads of reasons to whine about damsels in distress ('hapless male was the leader' points to some of this toxic writing).
But hey, the first movie was a pleasant surprise, and so might this. We are probably also going to see sets reminiscent of Mad Max, which I'm all for.
@ legoavenger14 first the main voice cast shows some other new names so the helmet alien is not any minidoll character we have now. It's considerable that such film would tend to introduce original characters for its own use.
The first film did owe Friends characters a cameo, but thinking that minidolls = Friends is outdated nowadays, considering minidolls have been variously used in original or licensed themes.
Looks VERY good and promising, can't wait`! Really LOVE Intergalactic with Beastie Boys. This must be PERFECT!
Would it be wrong to want the minidoll race to be made up of transforming super-powered color-coordinated Magical Girls?
If they don't make a set out of that blue accented truck with the lift arm that drives by near the beginning, I'm gonna cry.
@LegoSolo77: At least some portion/portions of the movie are going to be musical. The synopsis mentions that Emmett visits various planets on his rescue mission, including a musical planet. I think that sounds hilarious personally, can't wait.
@Golem25 If you get upset by Emmet being described as a hapless male you aren't going to enjoy realising that the post apocalypse setting is probably representing toxic masculinity and that emmet is likely going to solve the problem by introducing the female lego. I expect the whining about this film to come from entirely the opposite direction you are expecting as it usually does. You are already complaining about a fairly mild description of Emmet as hapless.
This looks neat, seems we are back to block animation for everything like the original Lego Movie and as for sets, well it's hard becaus snot everything in the first movie was made a set but both Metal Beard and Beast Kitty will form part of sets. There must be a lot of Mad Max fans at Lego.
I really hope that we get some good looking sets for this.
@Golem25 - you don't think that section of the trailer pointing out it was Wyldstyle actually doing everything while Emmet was the 'hero' was accurate?
Given that comment & the "Sistar" system, I suspect it will attempt to bring together these polar opposites & show how much they have in common rather than what divides.
I WANT A SEWER BABIES SET!!!
I can only presume that...
Something happens to the father (maybe after taco thusday he no longer cares about his lego sets and let his son have full control). The boy is in his edgy stage. All the robot and edgy stuff, maybe some technic? The toddler sister no longer plays with duplo, but with friends (and other minidoll sets).
Sister wants her bro, who scoffs at minidols to play with her, so she takes few of his probably fav minifigures. It's what younger siblings do. Take your fav stuff.
And Emet is once again the boy, going to take them back.
I suppose this trailer answers why Metalbeard looked so different on the poster, they completely took him apart to fit him in the spaceship!
I suspect sets released in the Jan 1st wave, along with the new modular. A February release will stimulate Lego sales in the 1st part of next year.
The villain is a minidoll. That's hilarious.
They know our every move! Oh, wait, Emmet just has the turn signal on again.
I expected bad.....really think it looks great
I hope they release that big Unikitty figure you saw in the poster and you also see at 1:11 and also that alien ship in the majority of the trailer.
That Unikitty will clearly be in sets.
That trailer was great. They really did change the block away from System vs Duplo and now it's boy vs girl styles of play. Very interesting. Love that it still takes place in space. Sadly I don't think it will be as Spaced base as the original idea.
Like others have said before... I WANT A SET OF SEWER BABIES! (And that flying house Emmet is in towards the end.)
Can’t wait for the Sewer Babies battle pack.
I love it!
@dylanmitchell
This isn’t going to be the first time, just take a look at the summer Ninjago sets, particularly the 70654 Dieselnaut. :)
This trailer was extremely good!!
So hyped!
Duplo, now mini dolls. What’s next? ...Galidor hehe.
1:50 "Hang on to your frawns plantey" Loving this Guardians of the Galaxy parody with Chris Pratt in a spaceship with a Groot replacement!
Personally I'm a little worried they've started the hype train WAY too early, with the premiere still 8 months away. IMO this easily leads to what I think of as a "second-degree hype backlash", where you gets somewhat interested at the initial announcement but that interest peaks at a point where the premiere is still 4-5 months away. After that the constant stream of trailers, "leaks" and gossip gets increasingly annoying to the point that when the movie finally arrives you're all "screw that" or "MAYBE I'll bother to pirate it later".
Everything looks awesome!
By the way, that place makes me think of Kessel from the new Solo movie, would be cool to see some Star Wars characters in there.
I just guessed the plot...
The boy has gotten to old to play with Lego and has entered his dark times, hence the wasteland setting for Bricksburg.
The baby sister from the end of the first movie that was playing with Duplo is now older. "A lifetime has passed since the horrific events of taco tuesday" She is now playing with the mini-dolls and friends sets.
The friends minidolls are the "other planet" which is essentially her room. She goes to the basement to get some old parts and characters to play. She begins to mix the characters and this brings to life a new era of Lego that isn't as gender specific or separated.
Heres to seeing sets with both mini-dolls and mini-figures.
Sets I'm hoping we are going to get are the minidoll's spaceship and Emmet's house spaceship.
I'd also like Sewer Babies and Cyborgs, probably as a battlepack as others have suggested.
I too would welcome a mix of figures.
Everything is awesome mix and planty.
Love the Guardians of the galaxy references. (because Chris Pratt is in both)
Love everything about this . . . love the humor, the look, the music, and the story!
Can't wait to see some of the sets . . . hoping for the houseship and sewer babies! Also interested to see if mini-dolls make it in to the CMF series that I can only imagine will be out on Jan 1.
From the trailer, I think we'll see Emmet and Wildstyle's monster truck, the alien spaceship, and the house spaceship as sets. I'd love to see the coffee shop, but I'm not holding my breath for that.
I'm loving all the little details in the trailer (obviously, they're masters of background humor), things like the cafe being called "COFFEE UNCHAINED", and the various ridiculous get-ups the Bricksburg inhabitants have, and the fact that Emmet just slapped some thrusters on his house and called it a day (need that as a set), but my favorite little detail is that adorable 1 x 2 plate with a crocheted pillow that reads "E&L 4-EVA". That's just sweet.
Also, I've been thinking, is the fact that they all exist in some weird plane of reality dictated by the whims of fleshy overlords not going to play a part here? I always figured Emmet especially would be weirded out by that existential crisis. Oh well, maybe I'm reading a little too far into "THE LEGO MOVIE 2", but it'd be nice to see that play a role.
The film looks like it could be a winner.
Mix of minifigs and minidolls?
Bye bye minifigs, in about 2-3 years time.
I'll be sad to see you go.
The coffee costs absolutely nothing, that's an amazing little background detail.
This looks great, I can't wait. I hope that the Duplo invasion is the actual opening scene and not relegated to flashbacks.
The sets themselves will be the first LEGO products to put minidolls and minifigures in the same box, right?
Calling it now, but we'll see a minidoll version of Wildstyle.
Feel pretty confident that it's going to be about "gendered toys". Will it conclude that play styles are at least partially innate or will postmodernism infect the LEGO universe as well? Stay tuned.
I have an idea of what might happen:
Finn and his little sister had a falling out over playtime after the Duplo alien invasion. This is why Bricksburg transformed into a post-apocalyptic city, as Finn was growing into his teenage years, as he wanted to turn his hobby into something more manly to make his sister leave him alone. Emmet, probably represents the time where Finn was more innocent or that he secretly cares for his family, as he doesn't appear to be drastically different since the last movie. Sweet Mayhem, the space minidoll, might represent the jaded little sister who genuinely wanted to play with her older brother, but was pushed away by Finn which led to her anger. The 'Sis-Star System' could be Finn's sister's playroom/bedroom area in the real world and Emmet's journey to rescue his friends from Sweet Mayhem could not only mean that Finn wanted his minifigures back, but also to try to make amends with his sister.
Finn enters dark age, leaving many design poorly or half-finished. He also neglects bricks and exposure to sunlight. So few years later, bam, dust and yellow bricks everywhere.
Is that the computer from the Portal and Dimensions games singing at the beginning?! Love this!
Well I'm glad they don't seem to be going with the idea of a musical like everyone thought a while back.
Beastie Boys Intergalactic.
Awesome!
IMHO I think that the world they now live reflects Finn’s dark age, as mentioned before.
Her sister is now “playing good” and is giving his brother a chance to start playing again, sharing the passion!
Is Charlie Day still playing Benny?
the mechs at 00:31 appear to be the Mr. Freeze mech. at 01:11 they've gotta make a set with that Unikitty! at 01:25 we see normal size unikitty, and we see brickbeard is some sort of crab? I'm reminded of Nidhiki. at 01:43 how the heck does Batman get more hardened than he already is? XD and his grappling hook appears to be built the same way as in the first movie. at 01:45 isn't it interesting that the mini doll appears to just be taking the most interestting or "most special" characters? probably part of the plot right there. 01:50 that text reminds me of Thor Ragnarok. 01:56 look at benny's face! XD and then we see the Mini doll hops! that's awesome!
The Sewer Babies better be in the CMF series.
I want those Sewer Babies!!!! So lovely!!!
The house ship thing could be a great set. Love everything. Gonna watch it in theaters
Can’t wait - looks bricktastic.
Why isn't it called "The LEGO Movie: Sister Location"? Lol.
@Venunder: I think you're jumping to some wild conclusions there. Like, the Super Heroes theme has had minifigures coexisting with "bigfigs" for years and nobody ever got paranoid about bigfigs replacing minifigures in the future. And The LEGO Movie thrived on mashing up themes people don't ordinarily expect to see together, so it shouldn't be any surprise at all for its sequel to take that further.
All I want is sewer babies battle packs.
Looking forward to this and the movie based sets
Mine turtle!
Couldn't help but notice that their arms move at unnatural (for LEGO minifigs) angles. I don't recall it being so in the first movie...
I just hope Bionicle makes a cameo!
... I thought it looked a little bit lame, to be honest. But each to their own. *shrug*
Looking good. I'm with the others that relate the dystopia to the kid from the first movie going into a 'dark ages' and thus causing the world to look like it is. I'm sure they will find some way to explain that in the movie. All in all it looks like it will be another fun LEGO movie to enjoy!
I’m 100% certain that’s Garfunkel & Oates singing “Everything is Awesome” at the start of the trailer. (Most of their songs are not kid friendly.)
Well my kids and I are pretty pumped. I think it’s brilliant how LEGO has finally gotten a way to get Mad Max parts to the fans. I mean we’ve only been begging for them for years.
And by “we” I mean others. I’m mildly indifferent to post apocalyptic parts. But cool parts are cool parts. And all arts are space parts.
Aw man, if you're like 'older' they can totally get you by just picking a song from when you were young. 'DON'T you tell me to STOP'. The latest Star Trek did that as well, and I was stunned and delighted.
So, LEGO friends vs LEGO city?
Also, I am astonished that DUPLO converted Bricksburg to a harsh postapocalyptic wasteland.
That. Looks. AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh no. Yet another good film has been ruined.
Firstly, they could at least think of their own setting, directly copying Mad Max and Planet of the Apes (statue of liberty) is just lame and weird. A kid in his/her dark ages usually puts Lego in a box, not rebuilds everything to The Scorch Trials. There are enough post-apocalyptic films out there already, besides, Lego is supposed to be happy and fun! (the sewer babies are just messed up and creepy)
Wildstyle is a direct copy of Rey from The Force Awakens.
Next, the sister's Duplo trashing the city was a great ending for the first film, yet is not continued here, Duplo would have been better.
I don't mind minidolls being the enemy, after all, they are mutant Barbie dolls, not true Lego. But if it wasn't for the Lego arms, the space doll thing wouldn't look like Lego at all.
I didn't appreciate the feminist comment by the space doll either. Having a female be the hero, (Lucy/Wildstyle) is absolutely fine, but as with a lot of films these days, directors seem to think that they have to rub it in to the male audience when the main roles are females.
Emmet seems to just copy Macbeth in his madness of not accepting that everything is bad.
This will go on my list of worst films ever made, beaten only by The Green Berets and Frozen.
My only hope is that Emmet and those left at Bricksburg get given BrickArms weapons to get rid of the invaders.
I wish they had made dust the enemy. Something all Lego fans can relate to. Perhaps Wildstyle could search for the legendary Hand of Vac (hand held vacuum cleaner), while Emmet and the others use toothbrushes to try and clean Bricksburg.
Two thing I noticed which you can see around the 1:56 mark. Benny now has a robot arm, and Batman seems to have a patchwork Batsuit.
As noted by others, I'd be really surprised if we didn't at the least get the alien spaceship and house spaceships as sets. Think we may see 'Crab Metalbeard' and 'Battlebeast Unikitty' somehow too.
@Brickchap
I don't think you're looking at the movie correctly. The first Lego movie was chock full of references to other movies in the characters, the scenery, and everything else. We shouldn't expect it's sequel to be any different. I'm convinced the similarities you see are references, not copies. I'm sure there will be much more original content than references, just like in all of the other Lego Movies.
The Duplo invasion is continued here. We literally see it in the trailer. It just isn't the main conflict. Personally, I don't think it would have worked as the main conflict. Neither would dust.
I didn't appreciate that comment either, but from the looks of things, Emmet is going to save everyone and the minidoll will end up seeing we're all equal or something of the sort. I seriously doubt that comment will be allowed to slide in the end.
I'm sorry, but I cannot fully respect someone who rules out a movie as the worst ever without seeing any more of it than the first trailer.
I could see the Friends ship, the desert buggy, and a few other things as sets, but I think the big thing will be a collectible minifig series come out of this.
@ilyootha96: They pop the arms out of their sockets for a lot of poses, but the same was true of the first movie. One conspicuous example is when Batman and Wyldstyle hold hands while they're in the Batwing, and their arms are crossed in front of their bodies.
@Brickchap: Your complaints are absurd from start to finish. Like, Wyldstyle being a copy of Rey? Where the heck are you getting that from? Never mind the whole "mutant barbie dolls" quip that makes it sound like you've never even SEEN a barbie doll. I'm glad they're not making the movie for people like you.
I never thought I would say this, but I must have sewer babies! I know that they will, but it would be nice to see them not go overboard on the number of sets for the second part. There should be betting pools on which friends character is going to be in the suit.
@Brickchap: "This movie that no one has ever seen is the worst movie of all time."
I despise radical feminism as much as the next person but being automatically triggered by even a vague reference to female competence is just as insane.
@Harmonious Building: Amen, Brother Beavis.
Crazy is crazy, no matter what words it uses.
At first I attributed the wasteland to Finn going into his Dark Ages, but maybe that is not the case at all. In the first movie, Finn went against the rigid ideals of his father by creating wildly imaginative and non-conforming creations. Given that design philosophy, then it's possible Finns designs progressed to their point where they are totally chaotic and lose any harmony with each other, hence the dog-eat-dog everyone-for-themselves wasteland.
Meanwhile, his sister is building her own world and it develops to the point where it's like her Dad's original world, where eventually it becomes so large that to make it more manageable, imagination needs to be reined in to allow for conformity to settle in. But now this new world is starting to get stagnate and possible oppressive, so 'rebels' are looking beyond for help in kick starting their imagination again.
So in the end, the two worlds open trade/communications, yadda yadda, then balance and happiness. The end. Until The LEGO Movie Part 3: LEGO vs Marriage.
@Brickchap - poor arguments there old chap. How can WyldStyle be a copy of Rey, when the original Lego Movie predated Force Awakens?
Didn't think that one through did you?
As for Wildstyle being a copy of Rey, just compare Wildstyle at the beginning of the trailer (0:05) and Rey when she is scavenging in the crashed destroyer ship. There practically the exact same.
@harmonious "hapless male" might not be the worst feminist comment out there but it was completely unnecessary. Why not just "cowardly construction worker" or something? Why did his gender have to come into it?
The first Lego movie had references to various themes and movies but they were small snippets. The entire Bricksburg is straight from Mad Max as is the opening shot the same as the one from The Scorch Trials trailer.
Perhaps a trailer is not a firm fact that a movie will fail, but just look at the Lego Movie (1) trailer, everyone was excited to watch that and showed a good story line. While this trailer, at best, is just 'meh'. All the good things from the first movie seem to have vanished. (in the trailer Larry could have at least said $37 in a dark low voice, the only laugh in the whole trailer was Emmet indicating in the buggy).
@Brickchap
I still disagree with almost all of your points, but I don't think further discussion will be productive either, so to each his own.
" @harmonious "hapless male" might not be the worst feminist comment out there but it was completely unnecessary. Why not just "cowardly construction worker" or something? Why did his gender have to come into it?"
Oh my. I can't believe toxic bro masculinity has trickled into LEGO discussion, but here we are. I'm feel deep pity for you chap.
The distopian sets are alteady on my Christmas wish list
seriously reminds me of my kids, when our little girl comes in and kidnaps all girl mini figures. So they can all join their mini doll sisters in Heartlake City.
