By in United Kingdom,

I watched it this morning on Netflix. Very enjoyable. I didn't learn anything new, other than Elspeth is Scottish :-)

“On what is fast becoming a one stop shop for all our LEGO documentary needs”.....

Sorry, but if you’re referring to The Toys That Made Us I have to disagree. Compared to the entertaining and educating Channel 4 docos in recent times, Netflix’s effort was shallow, puerile and condescending.

@naranek, I expect they're referring to the selection of LEGO TV series and animated films available on Netflix. There are loads.

@omnium, I’m referring specifically to documentaries, as stated in the original news story, not cartoons and the like ;)

By in Netherlands,

I would really love to watch the documentary, but I don't have Netflix. So I have to wait until it becomes available elsewhere.

@Edemontes: No, if I try that, Netflix gives an error: "Title not available in the Netherlands"

By in United Kingdom,

Just watched this - very interesting - especially as I have just returned from a family holiday (sorry pilgrimage) to Billund to take my 8 year old children and my 8 year old self to Legoland and also to the lego house.

I've seen documentary's before - but it was interesting to discover that it is basically an enclosed bridge so that the base area is as open as possible.

It was a most magical place to visit - and now having seen the programme I want to go back and spend more time exploring the larger models - and all the features of them that I didn't have time to do in just one day (spent too much time playing with bricks in the experience zones with my little ones to spend the hours needed to find all the nuances in the larger builds) fortunately we are in theory only 80 minutes flight away - delays permitting (but that's a whole other story)....

It was great that I share one of my favourite sets (one of the last ones I got before my grey ages) with Kjeld - 928 the original large space set. The basement brought back lots of great memories for me - I've rebuilt some of my child hood lego for my little ones - including this set...

For those who said they don't have netflix - you can sign up for a 1 month trial which is free if you want to see it without paying anything !

By in Australia,

It was enjoyable to see the documentary was focused around Kjeld, this really seemed like his passion project more than anyone else's. He really seems like he is still a kid at heart which is possibly why the company didn't do so well toward the end of his tenure as CEO, as he was making some sets that cost more to produce than what they sold for.
It really shows what a great man he was to step down as CEO and bring in Jørgen Vig Knudstorp. He obviously had a real eye for talent, and was not too proud to admit the company had structural problems and he was not the man to solve them even though he was (literally) born for the role. And it was gratifying that an outsider recognised that the real strength of the company was the brick and went back to structuring everything around the construction system they had slowly been drifting away from.
It really shows the strength in a family run business, looking after your home town and gifting yet another world class tourist attraction to Billund after the service they have given you for decades. They deserve all the wealth and success they have achieved.
I have friends in Denmark and it is a beautiful culture with a great cheeky sense of humour. Can't wait to visit Billund again some day (the last time was in 1992) and see this amazing building.

@naranek

I haven't seen the Netflix documentaries, but the C4 productions came across with the poorly masked intent of painting all participants as cultists / deuteronomists.
