Oh the nostalgia is real!
Man, I LOVED these guys. I found them on clearance aisles and stuff as I was emerging from my dark ages, and I thought the crazy faces and over-the-top vehicles were just great!
Ah, Alpha Team. Definitely have a bit of a soft-spot for these guys. And I loved how Lego finally gave us a genuine original supervillain, the (odiously-named, to be fair) Ogel.
What I liked, in this initial batch of sets, was that each of the agents had a signature colour (see the orange stripe on Flex's vest, or Cam's red hair), so there was a coloured grill tile on all their corresponding vehicles to match. I always thought that was cool.
Excellent big smile face print
@Zordboy I loved the colors too. After I collected 6772, 6775, and 6774 (which I bought off eBay in 2005), I recall trying to combine them into a single vehicle with all five colors of grate. (I never got 6773.)
"Submarine" and "All Terrain Bungee Catapult" are kind of a weird pairing of vehicles when you think about it. but Indid like that the ATV's neon green bumper could flip down and reveal a pair of (what I always assumed were) hidden lasers. ver bond
@phi13 ... in 2001, I was attending my first year of university, and the bus station (to get on the bus to college) was right by a major shopping centre. So there were a few days when I bought some Lego, and then had to keep it in my backpack all day when I attended my classes. And I'm telling this story because I remember buying 6773, and keeping it in my backpack until I could get home and open it. I bought the helicopter and Radia's cruiser, but I never did buy this ATV, although I wished I did. There's always Bricklink. But I definitely tracked down an Ogel figure and added him to my Lego rogue's gallery.
I thought Benny had the biggest grin, but that face is over the top!
@Zordboy I'm pretty sure in 2001 LEGO also gave us Makuta Teridax, who was just about as evil as you can get and keep a PG rating (although he was pushing it at times.)
I always found the face prints of these guys to be a tad dorky (at least it's not as bad as the 01-05 HP sets!) but they had a lot of personality compared to the later agents lines. Ogel was a force to be reckoned with, especially with such a clever name, and is one of the few times we've seen a LEGO character take in injury and have to recover. Tee Vee might just be simutaneously the funniest and coolest robot LEGO has ever made, depending on the year.
one of the sets i bought in the brief blip of Light during my dark ages.
