Review: 41341 Andrea's Bedroom

The smallest sets in the Friends line this year are bedrooms - one for each Friend. Today I'll take a look at 41341 Andrea's Bedroom. Andrea also had a bedroom set in 41009 Andrea's Bedroom, but that was a pretty generic room that didn't feature any of her interests. Today we'll see if things have improved for Andrea over the last five years.

The set is in a smaller box with tab openings. The front of the box shows the set in a room near a window with sunlight streaming in. The back of the box shows different features of the set as well as how to put together a minidoll. Inside the box there are two unnumbered bags, an 8x8 flame yellow plate, a small sticker sheet and a small instruction book.

The minidoll in this set is (obviously) Andrea. She's wearing a new outfit for this year - she has a one shouldered top with detailed printing of musical notes with a background that suggests electronics. This makes a lot of sense as Andrea is the Friend who has the most affinity for music. Andrea pairs her top with an aqua skirt. Her shoes are fuschia with aqua laces and soles that match her skirt. The Friends animal is Pepper the parrot. Pepper is also new this year, and is a gorgeous fuschia colour - matching Andrea's shoes! Pepper has flame yellowish accents on her feet, wings, beak, and has some very striking blue eye shadow.

Small ancillary pieces of the set are Andrea's keyboard and mix equipment. The keyboard is equipped with a microphone as well as a synthesizer represented by a 1x2 tile with various red and white markings. This is paired with a laptop equipped with some mix software so Andrea can create her own tunes.

All of the bedrooms have been built on a heart footprint - in this case the flame yellowish colour that we often see associated with Andrea.

The bedroom itself is quite compact as one would expect for a smaller set, but still has a number of details. I particularly like the windows represented by transparent light blue and transparent reddish violet wall elements. A gold record, an electric guitar and a bulletin board are featured on the wall. Maximizing the use of space, there's a small bed complete with cookie for Pepper on top of the wall.

One side of the heart there's a speaker system as well as a very attractive floor lamp. I like the use of warm gold pieces for the lamp.

The main feature of the room, the bed, has a very attractive bedspread (thanks to a couple stickers) that also feature musical notes as well as what appears to be synthesized music bars. Rainbows complete the colourful look. There's also a nightstand that is the home of a perfume bottle as well as a hair bow stand (because you can never be too far away from one of those). A throw rug at the foot of the bed completes the decor.

Again maximizing space, Andrea's bed is a Murphy bed, so it flips up, revealing a lighted dressing area with mirror with a rather snazzy stool.

Overall thoughts

I think this is a great little set. These smaller sets (85 pieces, $9.99, 9.99€, £9.99) are nice pocket money investments. Even though the set is priced a little high for the size, the designer has managed to pack a lot of details into those 85 pieces. All the details reflect Andrea's interests and personality. An added bonus is that there are a number of newer and still somewhat rare parts in this set, itemized on the inventory page here.

I think this represents a great improvement over the last Andrea's Bedroom from five years ago. Based on this set, I'd look for the other bedrooms to see how many details are included in those.

Many thanks to the LEGO Group for providing Brickset with a copy of the set. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.

I like the idea of heart shaped bedroom sets for the friends, it's a great idea. This one is a little blah though. I do like what LEGO has done with the different colored windows.

Is flame yellowish color the same color as 'Chima yellow'? It's hard to tell in the pictures.

By in France,

When one of my daughter's Friends set is next to one of my SW collection, I always think that bright colors are so beautiful compared to my overall grey ships. Of course we cannot compare, but I can't help myself thinking Elves and Friends themes are nice with those bright and multiple colors, attractive, they inspire joy, sunshine, fun and so on - and I understand why my little girl loves them so much. This bedroom has a good design, the heart shape is a good idea and obviously perfect for the range. Many (too?) stickers as usual but they don't seem to bother children as they sometimes bother me. For the price one gets good parts and play value with this one again. Thank you for the review.

I like that this kind of throws back to the original: the hinged futon—> the hinged Murphy bed; a vanity with chair is a feature in both.

It’s more-than-nice that the new version includes musical accessories since that’s Andrea’s personality attribute. I can’t believe that the original didn’t.

The magenta rug could really benefit from a sticker. The 1X2 blue/aqua plate at the top of the wall for the bird to perch on is lame. I’m not too impressed with the lamp design; the base is huge. I’m a huge Friends fan, but this seems like another reboot fail; the designer just kept adding stuff to add pieces and hoped for the best.

Aren’t there 2x3 studless plates now? Replace the 2x4 rug with one of those. Replace the 2x1 table with a 2x2 brick, get rid of the base on the lamp and move it onto the table behind the perfume and bow that are moved to the front of the 2x2 table. Put the keyboard on one of those 2x2 plates that have the gray circle that allows stuff to spin, and put the keyboard we’re the lamp is now. That’s how I’d revamp the set without changing the piece count (unless the spinning 2x2 counts as two pieces... I can’t remember.).

I like these rooms. I think they introduce the rebooted girls very well and provide us with some nice colors :)

There's some nice little touches that aren't obvious from looking at the box so this has been a handy & informative little review

Nice modular synth! Now, do some bass to it.
Nobody will get the reference :(

@David1985: Yep, same color! Bionicle fans often call it “Keetorange” after https://brickset.com/sets/8755-1/Keetongu which was the first Bionicle set to use it extensively. It’s kind of funny how people can think of a color differently depending on what sets they associate with it!

Anyway, this set is pretty fun! I like the creativity of the combination vanity and Murphy bed. The room does seem a teensy bit sparse when it’s folded up, though. In general the bedroom sets are quite a lot of fun and the designers did a great job individualizing them. It will be interesting to see if we get any more full house sets for the families whether they stick to the color schemes and design languages these bedroom sets establish.

Well, color me embarrassed. Megan called the blue plate on top of the wall a bed for the bird, but I only realized now that the cheese slope is supposed to be a pillow. That’s kind of cute, but still lame because a pillow for a bird, really?! and it’s still kind of a weird place to put it. The lamp with a 1x3 plate on top instead of the white cone could have made an excellent looking perch for the bird.

^^ the colour of the bird's bed matches with the colour of the girl's.

I can't help but be amused by the cookie, considering Minecraft was going to use cookies as feed for parrots until they found out that chocolate is poisonous to parrots.
(I love that lamp, though.)

Another winner in the Friends lineup! Good review and lots of neat parts to use in other MOCs.
