Review: Harry Potter BrickHeadz

Among the latest batch of BrickHeadz to hit the shelves are three based on the Harry Potter films.

We reviewed 41621 Ron Weasley & Albus Dumbledore a few weeks ago so today I'll look at the other two sets.

41615 Harry Potter & Hedwig

Harry's snowy owl Hedwig is constructed using the new 3x3x3 BrickHeadz standard that's been introduced for smaller-than-human characters.

From the front it looks very plain and blocky, although the beak looks great, as do the eyes, which feature the BrickHeadz stardard pattern but printed onto yellow 1x1 round tiles instead of the usual black.

Things are more interesting round the back where her tail- and wing-feathers are visible.

Harry is attired in Gryffindor robes, complete with orange and dark red scarf, and armed with his holly-wood wand.

The lightning scar, from where Voldemort's Killing Curse struck him as an infant, is displayed prominently on his forehead. As is normal for BrickHeadz, all decorated elements are printed.

His hair is nicely detailed on the front and sides but a bit boring round the back.

41616 Hermione Granger

Hermione completes the triumvirate of friends, and like Ron in 41621 Ron Weasley & Albus Dumbledore, she's wearing school uniform in the colours of her house, Griffindor. However, rather than trousers, she's dressed in a pleated skirt.

Generally speaking, female BrickHeadz are more appealing than male ones on account of having 'bigger hair' and that's certainly the case here. Her brown locks cascade down over her shoulders and there's even some nice detailing at the back.

My only criticism is that left- and right- sides are identical which, however good she is at combing her hair, is unlikely to be the case in real-life.

Appropriately, being the more studious of the three, she's carrying a book in addition to her vine wood wand.

Verdict

These are nowhere near the most impressive or attractive BrickHeadz but they are very competent and instantly recognisable designs of important characters from the films so are likely to prove popular with fans of the wizarding world.

Not my cup of tea but fair play to people who enjoy the Brickheadz, the theme seems to be hitting its stride and these HP sets will no doubt prove popular.

By in United States,

is that a new element they used for the glasses?

Succinct & useful review!

Why do they use those weird eyes?

So these look good, and I'm a die-hard Harry Potter fan but I think Hedwig could use some feather details, to get better display value

By in Canada,

What, if anything, is in Hermione’s book? A printed tile?

Why does "reviewed" link to a photo?

I like them. I keep wondering if there are other ways to do glasses than the ones we’ve seen so far. I have been wracking my brain to figure out a smaller imprint from front view with a more rectangular look to make a BH self portrait and striking out hardcore.

Won't buy them and still not that fan of the range, but BH are more and more brilliant IMO. As usual rely for a good part on the printed parts BUT also more and more on capturing the very essence of every source material. Those three are instantly recognizable while matching the BH style. Good job. And these "smaller than human" format and characters are interesting, Edwige is really well designed and I am now even curious to see Yoda and Rocket reviews and pictures.

I wasn't going to get sucked in but I did. I actually am quite enjoying having a number of them set up on a shelf in a group. Looks really nice!

While some of them aren't the greatest looking and or greatest builds I think some of them are fantastic. Had a lot of fun with the Go Brick Me set as well building various combinations. I seldom have mixed parts from sets in the past but I am thinking that might be really fun down the road with these with all those printed pieces and the huge variety of coloured parts for hair etc.

I think Hedwig's brickhead looks incredibly cute... I'm tempted to get that 2-pack but I think I'll wait until it's on sale.
