These were very strange, yet oddly memorable and fun sets. I had the Tower one with the giant black Gali-looking mask on the front and had loads of fun with it.
Oh this looks neat, I always wanted these minifigure scale Bionicle sets as the bridges are always useful and all they need is a small MOD of stairs.
Hmmm... My memory is a bit foggy here, but I think I had this set as a kid.
Had this set, was one of my favorites, I loved the Bionicle minifigures. Too sad I lost some bricks and others have broken, like with the majority of my sets pre-2012...
I really liked this line, it was a great way to mix it up with the Bionicle line and make the story more playful. Too bad the reboot died before it really got off the ground.
So many strange looking pieces in this set, and 8 figs in a $40 set???
Now, that’s a play set dude.
The Bionicle minifigure playsets were a pretty good reason for me to lose all interest in the line and enter my Dark Ages. Props to everyone who liked them, I guess.
I owned this years ago, shame I lost most of the minifigs. Really weird to see the bionicle logo on a system set though.
I think those Piraka minifigures were the origin of those long spikey tendril pieces Lego now likes to use as vines. Pretty much the only legacy of these sets I can think of.
Ehm, if I didn't know this was Lego I would guess for some fake brand. Weird set.
This set is so strange.
First thought when seeing these is whether it could be integrated into a castle display of some kind. But the two bridge towers are so sparse, just a series of columns with floors, and those base plates kind of stop you linking it up with anything. shame really

I thought the playset style was a cool idea on paper for Lego to do with Bionicle... But the execution always seemed off; especially with the bad attempts to integrate the larger Bionicle pieces into the Lego system build which just made things look 'spikey'. Even stranger when you consider that in the comics and films most Bionicle buildings looked either organic or often imposingly flat walls, not spikey in any way!
I wish we could see what the modern designers of themes such as Ninjago or Minecraft would have done if they had a crack at designing a modern Bionicle themed playset. The images of a Kini-Nui with all the playfeatures of some modern sets and all the detailing just is dancing in my head right now.
Never had this set, I didn't bother much with the Bionicle playsets after '05 - though I did have 8624 Race for the Mask of Life from this wave that picked up reduced, so I feel qualified to give at least a bit of an opinion.
I have to say that most of the negative comments directed at these things... were pretty much spot-on, in hindsight. They were such bare builds, which relied on the tacked-on Bionicle parts to draw interest, and... aesthetically? They didn't do anything for me. I found them too fragile for decent playing, either, so there was really very little to give serious interest. Like others have said, it was a very cool concept that simply wasn't done justice in execution.
@JohnMarten The body pieces were also used in the biggest Crystal Skull set!
