Random set of the day: Camera Cart
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 1422 Camera Cart, released in 2001. It's one of 46 Studios sets produced that year. It contains 20 pieces and 1 minifig.
It's owned by 61 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you might find it for sale at BrickLink or eBay.

Day 3 of tiny sets...
The men are beginning to lose faith. Is there not something that can bring us out of this dry spell? They hunger, but man does not live off tablescraps alone. Yes, they do still find fond memories of days past, but they are only to ease the pain. They cry out to Huwbot, but their prayers are not heard. I however remain faithful with but two words to say... Hail Denmark.
One step above Tree 2
I hope lego bring Lego studios back again they were good and does anyone know if the Lego studios camera works on a new computer today?
Is that the same head as Doc from Rock Raiders?
@JonMarten - yes, it is! Rock Raiders minifig parts popped up in a few places in the Studios theme; Sparks' head was used on the actor / stuntman who's in a few sets, and a variation of Axel was in another of these small polybag builds.
Given the occurrence of Adventurers characters in this theme, too, I have to wonder whether Lego was using the Studios sets as a way to use up old minifigure parts that they had a surplus of xD
Shall I alter the algorithm to exclude sets under, say, 50 pieces?
@Huw I actually quite like the fact all these small sets I've never heard of pop up
I don't mind the small sets either. Random means random, everybody...
I got the boxed version of this set MISB after getting it for Saint Nick's from a classmate in 2008 who had it in his attic. Not the worst set even if it's missing a steering wheel/poke and tape for in the camera.
@TheLegoFan
The camera itself would most probably work, since it is actually a Logitech webcamera. However, the functionality of the Studios Software itself was limited to Windows 98 if I remember correctly. I tried then to run it on later Windows (XP I think) with no success.
My vote is to not change the algorithm. Small sets are treasures in the database that the Random Set of the Day shares with us. I’d hate to see some AFOLS with Goldilocks syndrome (“This set is too small...”) cause these sets to not have a chance to show up here.
@Huw ... I agree with the crowd.
I like getting a look at these small sets (that I, otherwise, may not have ever noticed before).
Random Set of the Day is a lucky dip. If we get a small set, then we get a small set. I'm okay with that.
Better than 4071 Bottles.
@Huw, I was only joking. I wanted to make an over dramaticized comment of what I thought comments would be like because this has happened before, where we got into a rut of oddly obscure things and the users got antsy. Don't put an embargo on part count because that will knock out sets that are worth talking about, particularly in themes where there are just larger parts and fewer are needed. Random is random, and I'm okay with that.
I love the studios theme, I think it was a very innovative theme and I think LEGO should do it again.
In response to those wanting Studios back, look back at the sets made. They either were licensed or kind of a backdoor tie in to something licensed. Steven Spielberg, Jurassic Park III, Spider-Man, LEGO versions of Indiana Jones, Lost World, Horror movies, and then a bunch of props and set dressings. In short, outside of having the camera and software, or including a cameraman or director with a minifigure movie camera on a crane as a side build, you have all of that. It's all your licensed themes from movies. Before Studios, Star Wars and Mickey Mouse DUPLO were the only licensed things. Studios opened the door for even more licenses by having the first few under that banner and they branched into their own themes much like how Bionicle was originally under Technic.
I'm not saying that Studios was not awesome, in fact, it might be good to have a return as there were those Batman and Ninjago Movie backdrop things, so it can become a thing again, but adding a camera to a set is going to look weird. Chances are, it will get sucked into City like all things have. Arctic, Mining, Marine Exploration, it's all found itself under City at one point or another, so if you're ever going to see Studios return, it will be a subtheme of City.
I got no problem seeing these smaller sets pop up. Some of them are kind of cute
Real camera carts don't look like that. The cameraman doesn't ride with the camera!
@MCLegoboy, I’d love to see a return to the Studios theme, and don’t think they’d even need to include a camera. Smartphones are so prevalent nowadays that there could just be an app to download (in fact there was already a LEGO moviemaker app I believe).
I’m also just remembering how awesome the set with the rotating backdrop was!
Life's a box of Lego, you don't know what you're gonna get.
