Bikes to Billund progress update
Posted by CapnRex101,Huw and the Bikes to Billund team are approaching the halfway point on their journey to Billund, having already travelled almost 500km through the UK, the Netherlands and Germany in aid of Fairy Bricks!
The cycling team consists of James Pegrum, Ed Diment, Ralph Doering and Huw Millington, pictured left to right in this image beside Lester, the mascot for the Leicester Square LEGO store.
You can follow live updates as their journey continues on the Brickset and Fairy Bricks Twitter accounts and read more about the journey so far after the break...
The journey started at 8:30am on Thursday as four intrepid cyclists left the Leicester Square LEGO store in London. Lester himself supervised their departure and Huw rode an unusual bicycle which is covered with lavender bricks! Kev Gascoigne and Andrew 'Fly' Tipping are supporting the cycling team throughout the journey and made a couple of LEGO deliveries to children's hospitals in East Anglia on Thursday afternoon. The team covered 140km and arrived at Harwich in the evening, ready for a ferry crossing to the Netherlands.

Having crossed the North Sea, the cycling resumed on Friday morning. The Netherlands is famous for its flat terrain so there were few hills to contend with, although the team needed to cover 130km on day two which is not an easy task! While Huw and the other cyclists continued their journey, the Fairy Bricks van stopped to make a couple of LEGO deliveries in The Hague and Amsterdam.

The third day began in Lelystad and covered 120km. A group of Dutch AFOLs joined the Bikes to Billund team for part of this leg, providing welcome support as they continued travelling through the Netherlands. Huw has reported that the cycle paths in the Netherlands are incredibly smooth, although the weather can never be relied upon in Northern Europe and the group had to endure strong winds and heavy rain yesterday afternoon.

Day four is probably the most arduous, covering a distance of 165km and traversing some difficult terrain as the Bikes to Billund team enters Germany. They have crossed the border within the last couple of hours and should reach the city of Bremen this evening, although inclement weather is threatening the team once again!
This journey is being undertaken in aid of Fairy Bricks, a wonderful charity which makes LEGO donations to hospitals around the world. Fly is pictured here, delivering a donation to the Juliana Children's Hospital in The Hague.

The Bikes to Billund team hopes that their effort and your sponsorship will enable Fairy Bricks to support more children, in more hospitals than ever before. Please make a donation on the event's fundraising page, or via Paypal if you have problems doing so.
Thank you!

Why is the replica lego bike in purple? Surely the only correct colour is red?
A Friends promotion, maybe?
@Speed champions fan - Lavender is one of the colours associated with Fairy Bricks.
Keep it up guys. Great progress so far
so awesome!
^^^ I also thought it could be in reference to the old town cycling team sets in the database. Which is cool that it matches up with fairy bricks as well!
Congrats, chaps. Over £6,000 raised so far - fanrastic effort!
Man, I know I couldn't ride that far in so short a time...
Go Huw!
And everybody else...
if you ever need another cyclist, i may be fat but i'm more than capable ;)
Well, I hope you survived today... the weather was bad....
What happened to How's bicycle between the first and second photos?? :)
^Aw, darn auto-correct. Obviously meant to say Huw, hot "how".
Fairy Bricks to help raise money you should sell the kits to make your bike look a Lego bike; give me red or lime and I buy one.
The effort is more than commendable!
At the same time, I expect that the daily costs to do this are pretty high. Do they cover them themselves or have they got a sponsor?
