Review: 30614 Lex Luthor
Posted by CapnRex101,
Lex Luthor has traditionally focused his brilliant intellect upon a hatred for Superman, opposing the Man of Steel at every opportunity. However, the megalomaniacal business tycoon seized the role of his arch nemesis after Superman's death in the 2016 DC Rebirth comic series and became Metropolis' protector.
30614 Lex Luthor depicts that incarnation of the character, wearing a substantial mechanised suit which is evidently inspired by Superman's famed attire. This figure is currently available with copies of the LEGO DC Super-Villains video game.
Minifigure
Almost every Lex Luthor minifigure has included an identical head, the only exceptions being 6862 Superman vs. Power Armour Lex and 30164 Lex Luthor from 2012. The pronounced cheekbones and severe facial expression suit this character perfectly but a unique design would have been welcome. However, the blue armoured suit looks fantastic, featuring some lovely mechanical detail and an attractive colour scheme which matches the comic books.
I am particularly impressed with the metallic blue decoration that surrounds Superman's famed symbol and is emblazoned on Luthor's chest. Unfortunately, this emblem is not printed on the back of the cape so it diverges slightly from the source material, although the softer material used for this cape does not seem suitable for printing.
Overall
The DC universe is absolutely packed with exciting characters and a brand new one would have been welcome here. Nevertheless, I am pleased with 30614 Lex Luthor. This minifigure looks superb when compared with its comic book counterpart and is a great accompaniment for the LEGO DC Super-Villains video game, in which Lex Luthor appears prominently.

He looks sweet.
Is anybody playing this game? I see nothing about it, on any of the Lego websites I frequent...my wife and I nearly completed the story over the weekend, and it's fun so far. Much better than Marvel Super Heroes 2, which was a mess.
I've been watching my girlfriend play this game, and she seems to be enjoying it.
I find it odd to see him in this outfit, because he's in a green costume so far in the game, but maybe that's something that changes later.
So Superman is dead and Lex Luthor is a good guy?! Man, I'm so out of touch w/comic books lol.
While a good Minifigure itself, I’m rather disappointed that this was the figure we received...considering the game is all about villains, there was a endless roster of new interesting characters that have yet to be realized in the physical brick, which would have been far more desirable. Instead we got just another variant of Lex.
Although I have to say, it’s also disappointing that this Superman styled suit version of Lex goes utterly unexplained in the game itself, so it’s not like this has any meaningful connection to the story to begin with.
I like the idea of Lego putting out new characters, but I would much prefer they do it in sets rather than promotional material. Therefore, I think this minifigure is an excellent accompanyment to the game, and a great minifigure to own.
How to convince the Mrs. to let me Bricklink this guy...?
God I really hate that head. We need a new one for Lex.
CaptnRex101, the head featured in the 2012 version is markedly different than the one featured by Bruce Wayne of that same year, which is what has been used in more recent renditions, such as in the Sky High Battle 76046. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I do know that they are not the same. This Superman Lex is the same head piece as Bruce Wayne from 2012.
@Your future president - Yes, I understand and was trying to convey that in the review, although I see how it could have been misconstrued so have updated the article for clarity.
Ok, thanks! Appreciate all you do, Capn!
Cool figure, i still like the original lex luther in the green Armour and purple boiler suit.
That torso is the coolest torso ever!
I got the game from Gamestop (USA) and didn't receive this mini-fig. Who gave this out? I thought it was weird for Gamestop not to give away a mini-fig as they usually always do.
@lego leppy.... He was available only with the deluxe version of the game. That version comes with all the DLC in the form of a season pass, and this guy in a poly bag.
It cost about $15 more than the normal copy.
@jadblz--there was and is nothing on Gamestop's site that says this. I'm not concerned, I was getting the game anyways and wouldn't pay $15 more for the same game and Lex. Anyone want to send me theirs???
It’s got some form of Superman symbol on it, so I had to buy it.
Superman is dead?
Lex Luthor a good guy?
Seriously?
What's next?
Captain Hook the next Peter Pan?
Voldemort the next Harry Potter?
Sauron the next Bilbo Baggins?
What a stupid turn of events. Thank god I don't read such BS.
I got this from PAX Aus - the developer was literally handing them out in fistfuls. Love this guy, he's sitting right beside me.
He looks better then superman!
