I actually have this one and it’s pretty decent for what it is for its time. I’ve always thought it was weird how much it’s leaning forward though.
So many cool unique printed pieces for a small set. Definitely brings back great memories...
Awesome set! Look at that Rake- it screams speed.
@natro220: They're actually stickers... Aside from that, I really like it.
86 man, what a great year that was...
Oooh, I would like one of these. Just one issue; it looks more "touring car" than "stock car", more BTCC than NASCAR.
@Lego.lord: indeed it was! While we didn't have this particular car (I think), I just browsed through the list of town sets for that year and, man, do I remember some of these!
Four me this car is classic Lego in it's peak. Pretty perfect in every aspect for that time and I don't even like Lego cars that much.
I also had this set as a kid. It was one of those typical small presents I got, when a relative or so visited us . I always thought of the minifig sporting the "S" on his overall as my personal fig due to my first name.
I miss the days when I could memorise how to build complete sets like this one, and bask in the accomplishment of no longer needing the instructions! We need some simpler sets back.
@sparky ham: we have those simpler sets every year, they are called polybags.
Loved this set as a kid and did once again rebuilding it 20 years later when rediscovering LEGO as an adult in 2006.
Love everything about this set from the fig, to the colors and stickers. Even the instructions with the classic LEGOLAND banner across the top left hand corner.
I ended up doing a series of paintings of mini figs using the printed instructions as the source of inspiration, these paintings are hanging in my basement in my "LEGO Lair".

This car does not look too aerodynamic for a race car.
In the '80s, the cars on the road really were this boxy!
Wow, yeah, pretty much what everyone's saying: '86 was a great year (for Space, too!) and this little car was the perfect representation of the era. Still have mine.
To me this is the golden age of Lego. The city and space sets of this time are the favorites of my collection.
Ah, nostalgia. Some of those stickers were fiddly; they were the paper type and difficult to realign if not applied correctly first time. A vehicle of its time, great colours and Shell branding, 4-studs wide construction, and ripe for mods.
I think this may have been the very first Lego set I owned. My parents apparently did not know they were opening Pandora's box...
Just how fun would it be to watch stock car racing if they really looked like that. XD
I miss these vehicles. There was such charm in them.
This was the very first set I bought as an adult and lead to 32 years of LEGO collecting and MOCing. I still have all the sets from then to now making a total of about 1000 sets.
