great, another freakin helicopter

I don’t really know. Just not a helicopter.

I got this from a closeout store in 2001 after Christmas. Box was a little mangled, but I was stoked to have another set with a Technic figure! The VTOL function was pretty cool, too. I enjoyed the set and kept it built until my family moved to a new house in 2003. Interestingly enough, it holds the dubious distinction of being the last "normal" Technic set I obtained until 8880 on eBay a decade later. In that time period, the only Technic I was exposed to came from the larger BIONICLE sets.

Technic figures should come back. I don't care if they don't fit the scale, I love them.

Really interesting in that the V-22 Osprey was still over a decade from actually going into use here in the USA. And VTOL craft in general were just experimental.

Am I the only one who thinks a large Technic Osprey would be cool? I know that probably won't work, being as there isn't a civil variant yet; and it's a military helicopter.

I'm just curious, what does the set name stand for? I assume it's an acronym, but I can't guess what it means.

@BionicleJedi: Vertical Take-Off and Landing. Basically refers to any kind of aircraft that can take off vertically and hover in place like a helicopter. This particular type of VTOL, in which the rotors can change direction for vertical takeoff/hovering or horizontal flight, is called a tiltrotor.

One of the main advantages of VTOL aircraft compared to conventional airplanes is that they don’t need a runway to take off or land.
