Buy One, Get One 40% Modulars at Toys R Us
Posted by yellowcastle,
Though unadvertised, Toys R Us is currently offering Buy One, Get One 40% Off for the "larger" Creator sets. If you've been holding off on getting some modulars, most seem to be in stock and all at MSRP. Additionally, it might help those looking for both a Sopwith and Medieval Market Village. It's currently unclear how long this promotion will last. But don't worry, Bricktober is right around the corner if you wait. According to forum member Sidersdd, the first week will also be a BOGO40%.
Update: I'm getting reports that there's a 'buy 2 get 2 free' offer in TRU in the USA as well at the moment, and davetheoxygenman emailed to say that he found 3920 The Hobbit game in his local branch, priced £34.99 -- Huw

Not a terrible deal, but pretty sure I can wait on this one.
Sopwith Camel is $20 over msrp and the VW van is $10 over.... eats up most of the savings on the 2 sets I was interested in. :(
Maybe it's time I head down to the states for some shopping.
Yeah, we get screwed on LEGO prices in the Great White North. Wish we could get some deals here.
This is totally a mistake! Just bought 2 modulars.. The sale comes up as "Buy 1 Get 1 40% OFF ALL FAO Schwarz toys"! Hurry up and take advantage of this before they catch the mistake!
I don't think it's a mistake... The sets included appear to be the LEGO Direct sets (10219 Maersk Train excluded) which kind of makes sense in a 'Buy 1 Get 1 40% OFF ALL FAO Schwarz toys' promotion.
If I buy both pet store and grand emporium with these deal, I calculate that each comes up to $130.50 (Los Angeles, California 8.75% sales tax already included).
Do you think this is the best price I can get for these modulars? Or should I wait for e.g. a black friday deals?
^ I would be surprised if the very popular and expensive Modular building series was a Black Friday special. I don't have any insider information. They aren't carried outside of TRU and LEGO stores. I would think 20% off MSRP is the best deal you will find at either of those locations, excluding end-of-production clearance.
Check out the story on toysnbricks... the B2G1F included "ALL LEGO". Except Ninjago. And Friends. And some other accessories and stuff. And apparently also exlcluded their online "Hard to Find" category that includes the modulars. The last one wasn't clearly disclosed in their ads and was confusingly linked to by the sale. Some people were able to get the sale honored by calling customer service or shopping at the flagship store, but lots weren't able to get them to qualify.
When I called in my order for the B2G1F last Sunday I was "all set" then she stalled for a half hour - came back and said the items weren't part of the sale but did offer me 10% off or if I did find some qualifying items I would get an additional 10% off for my trouble. I was upset but almost expected it.
I'm not expecting much better deals than this sale going forward while still having inventory - if so I just return them.
An added benefit of this promotion is/was the lack of advertising. Inventory was available well after the promotion began instead of selling out immediately when a Buy 1 Get 1 50% promotion comes around. The 10% 'premium' of this promotion is worth it to me.
I took advantage of the TRU buy 2 get 3rd free on Saturday. :)
I bought the sets I thought would not make it to the next BOGO sale, and did not buy a lot since Bricktober is right around the corner.. because it is assumed that the BOGO50 will have such sets on sale again not have another B2G1F scenario where these sets are omitted.
TRU is having a get 20% off total purchase if you spend more than $150. That makes it seem like a buy one get one 40% off because you would spend more than $150 for two. A BOGO is always half the percentage that goes to each (40% off one is really 20% of both) They always jack their prices up so the deals are not as good as they could be.
^---- 20% IF the items are not on an existing sale.
Not sure if you can remove the BOGO40 from a cart..
Tried to remove one of the tower bridges from my cart, and no 20% off showed...
LEGO is excluded from the 20% off - see details.
This deal would be a wash for many sets. TRU marks their LEGO up by 20% so at the end of the day your still either paying retail everywhere else is a little more unless your sets are exactly the same price.
However, for the large modulars, they are priced at MSRP online and a great deal.
I am trying to order the 10197 Fire Brigade and 10211Emporium but can not get the 40% off to apply. My total with tax is over $323 dollars. Any idea what I am doing wrong?
