Random set of the day: 4-Wheeled Front Shovel
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 6474 4-Wheeled Front Shovel, released in 2000. It's one of 45 Town sets produced that year. It contains 52 pieces and 1 minifig, and its retail price was US$7.
It's owned by 1619 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you might find it for sale at BrickLink or eBay.

Grrrr where are my Clikits. Grrrr now I’m going to bed ANGRY.
HUWBOT YOU LET ME DOWN.
Whooooooa, this is one of the first sets I remember owning. As a model, it's really not that impressive, but man, that nostalgia is quite the thing.
I seem to recall having this. Either came from Kaybee or Food Lion. Food Lion used to have a full toy aisle at the time, with plenty of small Lego sets, Matchbox, and Hot Wheels. Now it's just the cheap, low-end Ja-Ru garbage every grocery store sells.
This is a bit strange-looking for a Clikits set, don't ya think?
Didn't remember this set till I saw it here, but this was the first Lego set I ever got. Built it on Christmas morning when I was 5, and I was sold on Legos for life!!
The one has been on Amazon Warehouse Deals for a few days. A bit rough.
That construction worker still has one of my favorite minifigs heads of all time.
This set looks both before and after its time.
The original wave of Town/City (i.e. not Classic Town) construction sets (6470-1, 6474, 6600-2) is one of my white whales. Very few of the modern City construction sets compare to them. We are long overdue for a new wave of construction sets and I can only hope that 60219-1 Construction Loader (which I now own) is the precursor to an imminent release.
Whoo the clikits have been defeated!
This IS the first set I ever owned! Awesome to see this set again in the light.
I never understood what the minifig was supposed to accomplish with the chain here.
Awesome set! Time flies...
That thing would look great with some clikits stars on it!
Ahh, highway construction! This theme was my jam growing up. Unfortunately the toothy grin on my minifig was a bit misaligned when I got this.
That guy looks like a tiger.
Town Junior, eh?
I think we were better off with the Clikits.
The best thing about this subtheme was that those highway plates.
^ See, I really liked the larger, trans-clear pieces and slopes. I tended to hoard those pieces, and my favourite vehicles always seemed to have one or two, here and there.
It's funny how I didn't even know this set, but I could tell almost exactly what year it was from by the weird flatbed vehicle design using those wheels, the chunky overall build, and the face print on the minifig.
The Alliance between Lego System and Duplo minifigures seems to have defeated the Clikits!! Great victory!!
And to celebrate it, a good Construction set!! A cheap shovel which gives you great playability!! I own it and I have it displayed on my parents' room's shelve, waiting for my son to have 5-6 years!!
Hey, at least it has clik-hinges...
The most worrying thing about today’s selection is that people are commenting that it was “the first set they remember owing” etc. - I was 21 nearly when this came out and it was most definitely not my first set... eeek ;-)
Where are the Clikits? I thought Clikset was a specifically Clikits-centric site! How am I supposed to get the latest deals on Clikits sets and the most recent Clikits news? This is a HUGE disappointment and this needs to be fixed. I need more Clikits parts articles!!!
Just because it has a chain doesn't make it Clikits. I'm very disappointed with the direction Clikset is going.
Also, what is that hook supposed to do?
One of the worst Clikits sets in my opinion. I don’t think that paperweights like this were a good direction for the theme, the normal Clikits jewelry sets are what made Lego their money and I think they should stick with those.
Your lack of Clickits disturbs me
I beleive the chain this guy's carrying that has confused everyone might be some kind of tow rope to get the vehicle out of jams. I have no idea why he's putting it on the end of the scoop, if he wanted to haul weight he should probably tie it to the arm just above the scoop (would you still call that a wrist?) or, better yet, use the massive tow hook on the back of the vehicle.
@Trifling With A Fatal Part The LEGO Brick has been around for just over 60 years. Surprise surprise, people younger than you are into it and are using this site to express their love of the hobby. If you were really 21 in 2000 you probably wouldn't've even been around for the very first minifigure set (give or take a year) and are way younger than the first bricks. Don't be a gatekeeper.
@Trifling With A Fatal Part: The people saying that this was their first set probably would have been around the age of five when they got it, which means they would’ve born around 1995, which would make them in their early to mid-twenties...so I have no clue what you’re so concerned about...
Huh. I'm honestly surprised that not more of the comments here are deriding this for being Town Jr xD
Never had this set myself... Town / City was never really my interest area when I could have themes like Adventurers and Rock Raiders instead. But I mostly recognise it from Lego Racers 2, the first opponent you race against in story mode.
To people commenting on my comment - it was simply an expression of how old this set makes me feel, nothing more nothing less...
I remember getting a couple of these to bulk out a roadworks section I had in my town and being so disappointed with the faces that I replaced them with basic older ones. It was the first time I began to feel concerned with the direction certain things were heading with the town sets (at the time, my interests then turned, particularly to Adventurers and Technic). It was the time when I "nearly" entered a dark age and this set therefore struck a cord with me today, thinking how time flies, and how great it is that there is such a growing family of Lego collectors (of all ages) as in 2000 I didn't have many friends - or really know anyone else - who had any interest.
No offence or negativity intended in any way!
@Trifling With A Fatal Part: Thanks for clearing that up. I hope I didn’t come off as rude or offensive, I was just curious. :)
@DecR504 - don't be daft, not rude at all! It was probably my early morning, half-asleep tone that didn't help me ha ha...
Emmet's dad looking good on that worksite!
Huwbot has returned to normal... and the heater is stuck on at my school... *sigh*
No pink, 0/10. Worst set ever.
No Click it, 0/100. Nice to see you are still alive and that the meat bag of Huw hasn't removed you yet. This seems like a nice enough set to be honest.

4-wheeled...4-??? It should be 4+wheeled loader! Get it?
I'm amazed at how many people are saying this was the first set they ever owned.
But this was, in fact, the first set I ever owned.
