Does anyone dare comment...
I think I know what I need to know about the drama... I think this is a good looking show piece. What I understood based on a draft from my favourite designer Psiaki.
Shoutout for senteosan, I hope you still get a chance to meet with designers some day. Maybe chat with Psiaki, you seem to have same vision! :heart
I ordered shortly after it became available this morning! :-)
No freebies but I don't care since I love the set and am looking forward to seeing the T-rex in the flesh!
@SeanTheCollector - No freebies???? You should have got the Rocket Ride!
QUESTION
Why is Sam Neill / Alan Grant the only actor/character not to appear as a still from the movie on the packaging, yet all the others do show up?
I'm a VIP and it says it isn't available to me on the US site.
@seanthecollector. rocket ride is still available as a free gift online for uk buyers
I loved the Jurassic Park movie, and if you're already my age, you may be able to relate to watching it in the cinema for the first time with THX and all the special effects. I was a kid and wow, the most iconic part would be the Gate! And there should be the Vehicle going through the gate as the most iconic scene in the movie. But somehow here there are people working inside the gate! Wow... And just to add, that the T-Rex doesn't know how to open the door of the gate, so hmm... I can't really relate to it, maybe the T-Rex should stomp the gate. And the mini figures are about 2x smaller in this set... Also I don't know why Lego doesn't scale well in this set?
But anyway about the purchase, my conclusion is since this is actually not related to the movie that much as how I remembers it, if I buy this set I will:
1. Sell the stickers, because the gate itself from the JP movie shouldn't have the rooms behind them so this is technically not JP.
2. Sell the mini figures, because they just doesn't scale.
3. Sell the gate. Or use my own bricks to build a vehicle, so that the gate's existence make more sense.
I'm trying my best to write a very mild comment to be honest. :) And I'm not that much into the saga topic or too active here in general. In my opinion the T-Rex itself, really look quite good: not too fierce, not too mild, just nice and beefy with good posting possibilities. Just not so fitting when all things are then put together in a package. But okay, it's a toy so why get so serious about it.
@Turbulence They appear to have found some more! My order now includes it as a freebie. I just hope it doesn't damage the main set during shipping.
I'm still pleased with how it looks as a display item. I just don't have the money or space for it so I'll stick with 75932 for a similar vibe. Might pick up the Malcolm and Nedry minifigs on the secondary market though.
Be interesting to watch the "Owned by" rack up. I did moan before but the bits that are there are good and I may look into it.... but it has to be on discount.
@audiobean The model isn't implying that there are rooms built into the gate; it's just a series of vignettes designed to make the build a little more interesting and to give somewhere to put the minifigures.
@seanthecollector It's more likely to be the other way round. My Rocket Ride set was squashed by Voltron and the box is crushed in the top corner. I contacted Lego CS and they are sending me a new one.
Not really followed the previous discussion points but I'm interested. My only criticism is the upper jaw shape - it doesn't have the convex curve that is so distinctive in the JP t-rex which makes it feel a bit generic rather than specifically JP.
Annoyingly, the grey and sketch models did all include it in some form!
It'll make a nice display piece for my work shelving though, and I can look into modding that part.
@hippie13 I seem to have the same issue using the US-Canada site too!
Why do I happen to be a poor student, just when the golden age of LEGO is starting?
First, the UCS MF got me back into LEGO, then I discovered Technic is amazing, Creator is getting more interesting with the space themed sets, ISS Ideas set is coming, Clone Wars series finale is coming too. And LEGO sets are getting more detailed and better looking overall, just like this set. That dinosaur is absolutely incredible and I haven't even seen Jurassic Park yet!
Add me to the list of folks who am logged in as a VIP and do not have an "Add To Cart" button. I even edited my Lego VIP profile to try and get it to trigger/recognize me and still nothing. It can't be sold out, right? The "most hated exclusive set ever" can't also be the most popular????
Saw the T Rex being built the other day at the LEGO store and thought it was pretty impressive. It wasn't close to complete so will take another look but may just buy the set for that alone. Not particularly a Jurassic Park fan I know blasphemy so have no real attachment to the gate or characters really. Maybe I could sell those off.
The set has definitely grown on me and as I’ve read interviews and heard explanations, I’ve come to somewhat accept the lack of a vehicle. I like the gates and will appreciate the vignettes and figures. The rex is neat, but due to coloration and some shaping still doesn’t read JP to me. I’ll defintely purchase it at some point, but will need the right offer (double points and/or GWP) to pull the trigger.
UPDATE ON NOT BEING ABLE TO PURCHASE: So, I still couldn't add it to my cart as of 10:10 AM Eastern. So, I clicked on Account and then the link for my VIP points. Once in there, there was a link on the right that said: Shop Now. I clicked that it was like a whole new world. Suddenly the T-Rex was the first thing on the Shop page and when I clicked on it I could Add To Cart. Now, it could be completely unrelated and maybe they made a change at 10:11 AM that just happened to coincide...but it was strange none the less. Another oddity...I still haven't gotten a confirmation e-mail from Lego or PayPal...so now I don't even know if it worked...
This must be the unluckiest set in Lego's history.... First undue hypernegativity, now hardly available on the day of release...
@JMLego - Here in Europe (at least in Germany and The Netherlands) the set was available from around 10.00 AM this morning. So maybe 10.00 AM is the scheduled time for release in all timezones...???
I saw it this afternoon in the Lego Store. It’s huge! Impressive looking build
This set looks like such a cool display piece!!! Not for my collection, but if I were a collector of the Jurassic theme, I wouldn’t hesitate to get this set
I think this set will still make for a great diorama display piece, together with the Creator Expert Ford Mustang driving through the gate (also in terms of scale I guess).
T-rex vs Mustang: "Jurassic Parking!"
(Now I have a valid reason to order one... ;-)
I feel like this means the set will be the main prize for the Huwbot competition.
In my opinion this set is extremely overpriced.
£120 would be about right.
@Venunder
That would be 3 cents per part. . .
Perhaps the Lepin version will be 120 Pounds ;-)
Actually, Jurassic Park was the first ever movie I saw in England. Amazing experience. This set doesn't do it justice, therefor I will save my money on this. But I am certainly getting me the minifigs someday.
@Golem25:
They might not have rights to put his face on the packaging.
@AustinPowers:
Lepin is officially shut down, remember? They'll release it under a different brand name, right on schedule...
