Fond memories of this set and theme
I gotta say though. If that's not the weirdest design for a cockpit in the history of Lego science-fiction-themed sets, then it's gotta at least be in the top 3.
I bought two of just so I could have an even number of those wheels
Fun fact: this set is a "remake" of set 7312 - T-3 Trike from mars mission's predecessor, life on mars!
I have a few of these as well. That cockpit always threw me off. It was fun to play with with good features like the suspension, and the alien containment.
I hope that Lego will revisit this theme again and that's what the current Lego City Space theme is alluding to. If they did, I'd really like it to be like Life on Mars where the Martians and humans work together instead of warring.
And since I'm dreaming, I'd love to see a return to the Ice Planet theme after that haha!
What a great timing, Huwbot! The new City Space wave is also focused on Mars exploration, and could possibly be a predecessor to Mars Mission!
Mars Mission had some stronger and some weaker sets. I'm not saying this is weak, but it isn't one of the stronger ones either. I for one think that people don't realize that MM sets are considerably different in their design from one to another. Most of them are pretty good, many of them are excellent but some of them aren't as good as they could be. The reason behind some of the weaker set designs is that LEGO was just getting back to designing new Space sets in 2007 after a 6-year hiatus and they still hadn't found their way of creating the most advanced sets.
Anyways, MM will always remain one of my favorite Space themes and I don't see any MM sets as total garbage - some of them (like this one) just needed a little more time in the development.
It was a nice surprise to see a revisit of the really fun 7312 T-3 Trike but but why was it not an improvement on the former?
This design is wild.
The theme was more like Mars War.
@TransNeonOrangeSpaceman I don't think it wasn't a lack of experience that made the first wave of Mars Mission not as good as it could have been, but the genereal trend back then to make the sets very large which often lead to a lack of detail and very rudementary designs.
The Trike is an overall good set though even if it was very basic vehicle.
I freaking loved this set! It was so fun to play with and the price was so low for how much toy you got! The big wheels and suspension made it godly haha.
I also bought two of these just to get an even number of wheels!
I think I have a copy of the previous trike as well, but it was the only one on the shelf when I got it.
Overall I like the previous one better, but this version had a better suspension, if I remember correctly.
EDIT: Upon checking my BrickSet account it looks like I managed to get two of 7312 as well! Ha!
This looks really bad
Got into Mars Mission sets coming out of my dark ages. Particularly the mechs piloted by aliens. Neat little twist to the typical space sets.
@MrGurt yup--remake of the superior Life on Mars version. Such a sad end Space met at the hands of Star Wars shortly after...
