Easily the best RSOTD. Just don't put that giant sticker on the front.

By in United States,

I thought I remembered this already being a RSotD, or maybe I am just crazy.

Still it is a nice set.

By in Serbia,

A Train set, those existed?

By in United States,

One of my favorite 9v trains sets

By in United States,

Weird that they sold the cars and train separately, even though that was the standard for early 2000s LEGO Trains line sets. Did this set even include a track?

By in United States,

The set that gave us the cheese slope. We owe it a debt that can never be repaid.

By in Australia,

All of the yes.

I remember I had a couple of trains (4563, a 7715 that I picked up on eBay, the Hogwarts Express) ... then they released the Santa Fe, and there was no looking back, for me, I was hooked. That is a beautiful, beautiful train (although I'm still more partial to the BNSF, just because of the orange and dark green colours).

By in New Zealand,

So good it doesn’t need tracks.

By in New Zealand,

I have sold 3 including a limited edition one lately. Still have 3 in an A-B-A consist. The B unit is made from 2 of these sets.

By in United States,

Still have mine in the box and I keep thinking I should sell it as it's worth a pretty penny.

By in United States,

I picked up two locomotives and enough of the cars to have a decent representation. I think it was one of each with two sleepers and two mail cars.

LEGO should revisit these special sets, but updated. Or maybe they didn’t sell well. I wish they’d sold the rolling stock for Emerald Night separately. I really wanted more passenger cars.

@Mr. Thrawn
What do you mean? I checked the inventory of this set and didn't see a single cheese slope in it.

By in Turkey,

Sets like these makes me regret not getting into collecting trains. Then my wallet smacks me in head saying, "wake up, it's not your thing!".

@TransNeonOrangeSpaceman I don't know what he/she's talking about either, as that piece didn't come out until two years after this set. Unless it's some sort of in-joke I'm unaware of.

By in Germany,

At least in Germany, thanks to the efforts of a company called BlueBrixx, we can now get detailed versions of various historical German locomotives and carriages/wagons/railcars to fill our brick-built train-based needs/desires. Apparantly those sets are quite good too.
Just one example:
https://www.bluebrixx.com/de/trains/101001/V200-Lokomotive-BlueBrixx-Special
and an accompanying honest (and humorous) review (in German mind you):

I miss those days when LEGO also sold trains as separate locos and wagons as well as accessories. The Golden Age back in the Eighties comes to mind too.

By in Germany,

It is a shame how Lego is completely ignoring the theme by now. The usual two train sets without any possibility of expansion are a joke. This set was awesome and still is!

Gravatar
By in Latvia,

I agree with all of you, we need a new Train theme, or if it's a big subtheme of City, like Police

By in United Kingdom,

What a great start to the week. I don't hate Mondays anymore.

Gravatar
By in France,

Not a train fan, but what a great design for its time! Shapes, colors, all is good even with available parts of the period.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@TransNeonOrangeSpaceman - I think they may have be thinking of the other Santa Fe set, the 10133 BNSF, instead; that one looks like it was indeed one of the first sets to use the cheese slope.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

It’s not on tracks because those two buffoons are messing about outside and it’s come off the rails

By in Ireland,

The moment LEGO acknowledged the existence of Adult Fans of LEGO Trains.

By in Australia,

Grabbed 4 of these on sale from a department store, 50% off from memory. Nice model.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

I had one of these, beautiful model.

Unfortunately had to sell along with loads of other sets a few years back when we were rather short of funds, but it made a few £££'s I can tell you :)

I agree, the recent passenger trains just don't come close.

By in United States,

We need a remake of this set!

^ This is one on my wish list that I'm certain I'll never own without a re-print. Too late to the party when it comes to trains, but I sure appreciate it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This was a set?! Released in 2002?!! Looks good enough to be sold today....

Gravatar
By in United States,

A toss up for me, but easily one of the two best trains Lego ever put on the market... with the Emerald Night being the other.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I remember pallets of these at 20% off issue price at Legoland Windsor. It may surprise younger readers to learn this set and its accompanying cars were not good sellers. Only after years of shelves devoid of appealing trains has this become a classic. And I think this status is as much down to the lack of investment in detailed trains as it is to the aesthetic of this particular model. But I do love this set - I think the snotted curved slopes on the front are striking and so different from any previous Lego train. Its position in the rankings is well deserved.

By in Canada,

One of my Lotto Max win dream purchases...

Gravatar
By in Germany,

It was way ahead of its time, like 4483.

Gravatar
By in United States,

One of my favorite sets, still proudly displayed atop my bookshelf to this day. Really wish I’d picked up some of the passenger wagons at the time!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Coveted one of these for ages, but thought I'd never get hold of one, until one turned up at a local toy fair for a reasonable price. One of my best purchases ever

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Really wish they'd still sell locomotives and carts separately for any type of train.
