Review: 40351 Halloween Ghost
Posted by Huw,
BrickHeadz fans can rejoice at the release of the fifth seasonal one of the year, 40351 Halloween Ghost.
Like the others, it comes with a small base on which to display the figure which in this case features a pumpkin and tombstone.
Unfortunately, despite what the box would have us believe, it does not come with a special brick to enable it to levitate...
Instead, the figure, which looks splendid draped in a tattered-edge sheet, stands on two 2x2 clear bricks which nowadays are cast in a new plastic formulation which gives them a different look and feel to older polycarbonate ones.
The back is plain, but then white sheets generally are...
Ever wondered why ghosts wear sheets? I did, so I Googled it. Find out here.
You can of course display the figure without its supporting bricks, but unfortunately it does not levitate. I will be writing to Susan Williams at LEGO Customer Services to find out why...
The tombstone is hinged to allow it to be tilted backwards slightly to give the impression it's just opened to release the ghost.
The new pumpkin part is a welcome addition, as is the black spider, neither of which are particularly common.
Verdict
Like all the seasonal BrickHeadz sets released this year, it's great fun, and well executed. If you're a fan of the blocky characters you'll find it a welcome addition to your collection.
It's available now from LEGO.com for £9.99 / $9.99.
We have two more seasonal BrickHeadz to look forward to this year: 40352 Scarecrow and 40353 Reindeer, Elf & Elfie, which I suspect will both be released on 1st October.

Great review and thank you for enlightening us on winding sheets as burial shrouds! Also, please keep us posted on any response you receive from Susan Collins or any other customer service rep.'s as to why they cheaped out and didn't use opposing magnets to create the levitating effect :)
I hope the new Clear plastic formula ages well.
I think it's rather cute. The lack of levitation is disappointing, though.
Would be nice to have incorporated some glow in the dark elements. Still another great brickhead that will be added to my son's collection!
"see mom, Brickset IS educational, it's helping towards my grades mom, promise"
just2good has gotta be freaking out right now lol.
Neat. I think this type of build worked best for the holiday figures.
That's the old pumpkin piece isn't it? The new pumpkin piece isn't carved.
That's the spirit lego..... lol
Cute but I'd do it in black n leave the face white to make a scream brick head,
How do you imagine the levitation, anyway? There are transparent bricks, what else do you expect?
Nice set. Really like it. That's not the 'new' pumpkin piece though. It's the jack o' lantern piece from Scooby-Doo, etc. https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=20695pb01&in=S

Emmett... you didn't let me finish earlier... because I died.
...WooooOOOooooOOooooooo...
If they were really on their game, they would have used all glow-in-the-dark pieces. Shame we don't see those beyond the 1x1 round tile and the actual minifig ghost shroud.
Not generally bothered by the BrickHeadz theme but this one is quite appealing... Great review and thanks for the bonus info on shrouds!!
This is quite nice. This design translates really well as a BrickHeadz for whatever reason.
Have to say I am really enjoying the seasonal Brickheadz. Have them all, even multiples of some of them, can’t resist when they are always available reduced!
Waiting to open this.
Other than the actual model being really cute, this is a ridiculously amazing parts pack. Lots of great parts worth accumulating in bulk — including the critters and pumpkin, possibly (depending on what I end up doing with them).
I have the trans-clear 2x2s in the new plastic from 70825-1 and it's taken a while for them to grow on me. I will miss the crystalline feel of the old material, but I like that these now feel pretty much the same as regular opaque bricks. They're much easier to build with now and don't require nearly as much force to attach or detach.
In my lego shop one of the pick-a-brick section is filled with spiders. I'm a proud owner of four.
Still not a fan of BrickHeadz per se, but some are quite cute, like this one.
As for the levitating effect, of course it would be cool if it could actually levitate, but the price would have been prohibitive if LEGO had included such a mechanism, judging from what these items like levitating BT speakers and the like cost on Amazon.
Loved the review, keep us in touch with the answer from Susan.
Everyone knows that the reason ghosts look like sheets is due to the number of people who have died trying to change their duvet covers ...
I will open/build this in October
I need this, even if it doesn't quite look like Casey Affleck
