LEGO Ideas results arriving today!

Posted by ,

The results of the latest LEGO Ideas review will be announced later today during a live stream on Facebook. Nine projects have qualified for this review period and another returns from the previous selection.

This announcement event starts at 16:00 CEST, 15:00 BST, 10:00 EST or 7:00 PST and the result will be available on Brickset shortly afterwards.

You can view these projects and my opinion of their prospects after the break...

Update: The results of this LEGO Ideas review period have been announced.

Playable LEGO Piano by SleepyCow

This project seems incredibly ambitious and the heavy reliance upon tensioned string would differ from any previous LEGO set. However, the piano was originally considered within the last review period and was not dismissed so LEGO has presumably been searching for a means to produce this model during recent months.

Potential for success: 60%

Museu Nacional - Rio de Janeiro by MaxakalisaurusTopai

Many famous buildings have appeared within the Architecture range but the Museu Nacional in Rio de Janeiro seems relatively obscure so might not be suitable for the LEGO Ideas theme. This submission is fairly bland too, hence I think this model is unlikely to pass review. However, I applaud its creator for drawing attention to this institution, which was sadly destroyed by fire during 2018.

Potential for success: 10%

Anatomini by Stephanix

Anatomini is an interesting project and could certainly look impressive on display. However, I find it quite difficult to envisage this model being produced. It comprises more than 2000 pieces so would presumably be relatively expensive and the potential market may therefore be limited. However, its educational properties are appealing.

Potential for success: 30%

The Office - NBC by theoffice_lego

LEGO has produced two Ideas models based upon popular sitcoms and the most recent example, 21319 Central Perk, has proven extremely successful. The Office has similar potential in my opinion, although transforming Dunder Mifflin's extensive office into an appropriate LEGO Ideas model may be difficult. Furthermore, the number of minifigures would probably need to be reduced.

Potential for success: 60%

The Pirate Bay by Bricky_Brick

The Pirate Bay is my favourite of these projects and is probably the most likely to pass review in my opinion. The model includes outstanding detail and draws upon an enduring theme that many LEGO fans would welcome back. Its substantial size might prove difficult to overcome, although models like 21310 Old Fishing Store and 21318 Treehouse demonstrate that large submissions can be successful.

Potential for success: 70%

Kakapo by FlancrestEnterprises

21301 Birds was released during 2015 and Kakapo could therefore prove successful. However, this model seems unlikely to pass review. It looks fantastic but the kakapo is reasonably obscure so may not justify an Ideas set. On the other hand, this creation is rather small which could work in its favour given LEGO's occasional wish to produce smaller models within the Ideas range.

Potential for success: 30%

SpaceX BFR / Starship & Super Heavy 1:110 Scale by Albinolan, Whatsuptoday & Matthew Nolan

Five projects involving space exploration have become LEGO Ideas products, hence similar space-based models should not be discounted. However, the last review period saw SpaceX - the Ultimate Collection be rejected and this model seems rather unlikely to pass review in my opinion, particularly since this model shares many building techniques with 21309 NASA Apollo Saturn V.

Potential for success: 30%

Addams Family Mansion Modular by afol777

LEGO has produced many haunted buildings and the Addams family mansion might therefore prove interesting. This model looks marvellous and The Addams Family is relatively well known around the world. Even so, the project seems unlikely to pass review given its considerable scale and a potential conflict with the Hidden Side theme.

Potential for success: 20%

123 Sesame Street by bulldoozer21

Sesame Street remains exceptionally popular and is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary this year. The model looks spectacular and certainly reflects LEGO's primary target market. However, depicting the many residents of Sesame Street may prove challenging without creating any new pieces. I think the figures displayed with the project leave something to be desired, although they are very creative.

Potential for success: 40%

Machu Picchu by DDBDR

Machu Picchu is among the most famous UNESCO World Heritage Sites and this model of the Incan citadel includes exceptional detail. Its integration with the surrounding environment seems somewhat reminiscent of 21041 Great Wall of China. Unfortunately, that could affect its chances of success as I find it difficult to imagine this becoming an Ideas product while the Architecture range exists.

Potential for success: 30%

LEGO sometimes rejects every project during a given review period but that seems extremely unlikely on this occasion, especially since the results are being announced live.

Which of these projects would most appeal to you and which do you believe will pass review? Let us know in the comments.

Pirate Bay & Kakapo please

By in United Kingdom,

My picks are Anatomini or Sesame Street. But actually I’m not overly fussed if neither of those make it. Think I’m more excited about the next lot of results.

By in United States,

Yarr, 'tis a shame Ye Pirate Bay failed to be makin' it in time for the 19th o' September. 'Twould have made for a fine Talk Like A Pirate Day model!

That piano is fantastic, I'd buy that in a moment. I wish we'd get more innovative designs like that instead of the usual copycat fare (I'm looking at you, sitcom sets).

By in Germany,

The piano would be fun and I would seriously consider the pirate bay (depending on what they make out of it). I like the Kakapo but also don't see it being turned into a set. Not really interested in the rest I have to say.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

none of the above

Gravatar
By in United States,

I definitely like Pirate Bay the best. My second choice would be the Addams Family Mansion though I would really like to see them pick the Disney Haunted Mansion in the next round.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The Pirate Bay for certain. The piano would be fun, but only if it came with a sound module to make it truly playable.
My secret hope is for Anatomini though... That model is delightful, fun, completely bonkers, and nothing like anything lego have done before. Which is what Ideas is really all about.

By in Belgium,

I'm betting on the Pirate Bay and Piano, since it's so beautiful and they've added Pirate scenes on the Tree of Creativity at the Lego House to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the theme…

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Think the Pirate Bay is the only one that'll get made out of any of these, based simply on the likes of The Old Fishing Store having been made previously.

The rest just don't have that jump out and shouting 'buy me!' appeal or quality to me.

By in Australia,

Pirate Bay will be most successful. Crazy fast amount of likes, massive nostalgic value and it was the pirates theme 30th anniversary this year. Plus it looks like it has loads of playability and would also look great on display for collectors as well. The others are impressive builds without a doubt but they just don't have that wow factor. Also the Pirate Bay build is done so well I honestly don't see LEGO needing to tweak this set much at all.

By in New Zealand,

Go Pirate Bay!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

^ And Space X too similar to Lego's existing space range within City.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I agree with almost everything you said Capn Rex - Pirate Bay FTW

Gravatar
By in United States,

I really want the 123 Sesame Street set. The minifigures are not the greatest, but the buuld is an amazing build that can be displayed many different ways and the figures have grown on me. I really dont mijd them. I think all but Big Bird, Bert and Ernie look fine, and even those ones aren't bad. I think it has a good chance of passing.

By in Australia,

Of the options, I don't mind the Kakapo, but truthfully, none of them do much for me. Like, if they were rejected, I wouldn't feel too disappointed. The piano looks like it would be very difficult and fiddly to put together.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Meh. None really appeal to me personally, but Sesame Street is probably the most marketable given its international reach.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

The Office, for sure. Never forget the 'Fire Drill' scene! XD

Gravatar
By in United States,

Rooting for Sesame Street. Would love to see new molded minifigures!

Gravatar
By in Portugal,

I would love to see the Pirate themed base be the one that get's approval.
That's an insta buy. That's Lego DNA.

If not the Sesame street, everyone had a childhood.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

@Zordboy
I would welcome a set that would require some skill to put together!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Piano, anatomini and Sesame Street for me, please!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Anatomy and the Office US. I’d also buy Pirate Bay

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

So, if TLG approve the Office in this batch of ideas, I guess that’ll kill off the ‘other’ Office in the next batch.
I wonder if they’ve already decided which version they prefer?

Gravatar
By in United States,

The Office is the only one I’d be interested in purchasing. I can also not see any of these passing the review stage as well.

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

My personal favorite is the Pirate Bay.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I want Anatomini so badly... It was almost painful to see how slowly that one got to 10K...

I do find your reasoning curious, though - you say that Anatomini might be too big but The Pirate Bay is just fine?

Anyways, that piano also looks to be really cool.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

The Office? Another set based on a sitcom? Please, no. Lego Ideas should be about creativity. And the most creative thing in this set is Anatomini. I like also Pirates, Sesame Street and Addams Family Mansion, but it is the Anatomini which keep the essence of the Ideas concept.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I would LOVE the Office

Gravatar
By in United States,

I would take the office, or pirate bay.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Ha... The Pirate Bay... Does it come with any torrent downloads?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Sesame Street. One, it's their 50th anniversary. Secondly, it appeals to pretty much everyone. Looks good on display, but still plenty of play value for younger kids. My Dad grew up with it, I grew up with it, and kids still to this date (although I am somewhat annoyed, and to a degree, angered, by their decision to first-run episodes on HBO; not PBS)

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I like the Pirate Bay but it's not my thing. What I truly would like to see is the piano. Multiple buy - for me and my niece.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Really hoping for anatomy or Sesame Street, but the piano is also really cool. Can’t wait to see the results.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very much would SO MUCH LOVE there to be a sesame street set. I loved it when I was a kid!

Gravatar
By in United States,

but if not it would be cool to have an Addams Family Mansion set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Pirate Bay is an instant buy

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I would love that Pirate Bay, unless they change it so much until final production that it hardly resembles the submisson anymore, like they did with the treehouse.

The piano would also be a yes from me.
The bird is nice, but one alone? I think he would need some company. Bob Ross was right you know, everyone needs a friend. :-)

Couldn't care less about the others.
Hated Sesame Street as a kid.
Never have watched the Addams Family.
Liked The Office, but don't have enough affection for it to warrant owning a set of it.
The Museum looks kind of bland and boring to me, plus appears to be too large.
As for the last three, they look nice, but are not exactly my cup of tea.

Gravatar
By in United States,

You have been shagged by a rare parrot.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Pirate Bay I hope, although I would also like Sesame Street for the memories when I was a kid.

Gravatar
By in Austria,

Pirate Bay and The Office.

Honestly I'm kind of stumped how some of these sets garnered 10,000 supporting votes.

Gravatar
By in United States,

pirate bay and space x

Gravatar
By in Germany,

as keyboard player/pianist I obviously chose machu pichu... uhm I mean the grand piano. Yeah
Music is very unrepresented in LEGO. I mean there are of course props like guitars and mics for minifigs and minidolls. But I mean real music making bricks.... hmm... I guess the carusell had one of those

Gravatar
By in United States,

Give me the Pirate Bay and a Modular Sesame Street and my life will be one step closer to complete. Of course, give me the money to buy said sets and we're talking giant leaps towards life completion here...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Piano or office will be chosen

Gravatar
By in United States,

Pirate Bay would be nice if not to just to have something Pirates that is new. Nothing else jumps out to me. Honestly can anyone else also see this as being a review stage of nothing approved?

Gravatar
By in France,

Pirates or Anatomini but I wonder if one of them all will be able to get it. Good ideas, but hardly designed for affordable Lego sets. Or they ought to be smallest renditions of original ones.
Edit : but for the Architecture range?

Gravatar
By in United States,

kakapo & pirate bay, yes please!

no more licensed properties, ugh.

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

Sadly for Office fans NBC madae a really bad set with a knock off brand, none interest me honestly.
Edit: I am waiting for the SW sets official reveals as there are hints that we haven't seen them all yet.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Channeling my inner Benny . . . "SpaceX, SpaceX, SpaceX!!! Everything space remains extremely popular, hence the success of the Saturn V and Lunar Lander. But given they've already rejected several SpaceX Ideas submissions, I'm not overly optimistic.

The Office would be my second favorite. . . and judging by the success of Friends and Big Bang I would think it would be a possibility . . . especially given the large, cult-like following of The Office . . . but the set looks too big and with too many minifigs . . . would definitely need to be scaled down.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Pirate Bay seems a certainty.

Personally, I love the piano the most.
