Today's random set is 878 Piston Parts, released in 1979. It's one of 12 Technic sets produced that year. It contains 52 pieces.
It's owned by 100 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you might find it for sale at BrickLink or eBay.

I thought this was another History of Pins article for a minute
Ooh la la! Censored Lego.
I can't imagine how hard it would be to remove those 2L axles without notches!
I read that as 'Prison Parts' and thought that sounds like a weird accessory pack. Then I read it again.
at least the clikits accessory packs are colourful XD
@HobbyBros: Teeth! And as an added bonus, this makes your own notches.
These look nice, but how does one combine them with clikits? I'm puzzled.
Great parts. Unfortunately after many decades of use those old grey Technic pieces tend to get brittle and crack under stress.
Indeed, but with modern day quality and ease of use please. I remember those old black 1x2 pins and what a literal pain they were to get out again. I nearly lost a tooth several times. Likewise with the old bushes, toothed or toothless, on those old black axles. Then again, stuff built with those old pieces was sturdy as hell.
When’s the last time we’ve had a set that wasn’t old or...
CLICKITS!
Ah... a great (but maybe slightly boring) set.
I remember using it to add extra cylinders to my 8860 ‘Car Chassis’ Christmas present!
What an exciting set :)
aka Clickits for boys
Great parts pack, but probably one of the least colourful sets around.
