The Legend of the BIONICLE achieves 10K on LEGO Ideas
Posted by TheBrickPal,
The LEGO Ideas project The Legend of the BIONICLE: Celebrating 20 years of Lego stories by Sokoda has now achieved the coveted number of supporters to be brought into the review stage. Congrats on 10,000!
Since we last posted about the project to encourage support, Sokoda has updated it with multiple new features, including extra minifigures and a Bohrok adversary. You can check out some photos after the break, and the updates here.
What do you think of this development? Let us know in the comments below. Now let's see how LEGO will evaluate such a great model! Fingers crossed...

And so the waiting begins...
Congratulations Sokoda! I really hope this is developed into a set. I know G2 didn't do well but BIONICLE is still an important part of LEGO's history, and it'd be nice for them to do something for the 20th anniversary, especially when it still means a lot to so many people. And this set is such an awesome design!
Oh, nice! Would really love to see this one get approved; not only is it a neat concept, but it's incredibly well-executed, too. I'm quite honestly amazed by how quickly it's reached the 10000 mark - hopefully that fact will influence Lego positively towards it, as well ^^
(Also, loving the new additional minifigures too!)
I never got the appeal of Bionicle, but clearly this projects got the support behind it to have gotten to 10k so quickly.
That said, given its a 'dead theme', we'll have to see if lego wants to do anything that'll possibly lead to demands for its revival.
I would be but this day 1. And I mean I’d be standing at the doors to my local mall waiting for he doors to open so I could book it to the LEGO store fast enough to grab it.
I was surprised at how fast this gauned support
this would NEVER be a set. Way too many exclusive prints, and the minifigures are just too godly deteailed. Now, we may get a toned down version of this, which would make me very happy, but anyone who thinks what we see in the pictures is to be translated to a physical set, is just setting themselves up for disappointment.
I would love the original Toa and villains in minifigure form so if this gets made, I hope it contains lots of figures!
I don't see what's the big deal over "existing themes". Aside from royalties to the designer that put the project up on ideas, LEGO has to pay no one.
The set itself really doesn't interest me, but the minifigs do.
The thing that gives me hope is Sokoda clearly demonstrated a knowledge of how Lego Ideas works. So many Lego Ideas sets that have suggested reviving or paying tribute to Bionicle, use molds and pieces from the original 2001 theme. Yes I want to see a new Kanohi Hau cast from the original molds, but my bet is Lego has long retired those molds and bringing them back for an Ideas set would be ridiculous. I wouldn't be surprised if the 2015 and 2016 reboot has most of its molds retired already too!
But... Sokoda designed something completely faithful to Bionicle using the modern parts palette. Compared to most the other projects in this review, the only build more dynamic is The Planet Express model and the Ratatouille kitchen. Seeing Bionicle is an in house IP, Lego might find it more convenient to approve it than go to Disney to license yet another set (Futurama is now owned by Disney too...).
May The Great Spirit Mata Nui guide the hands of the reviewers then... (as in a planet sized robot showing up to persuade some Lego designers!)
Haha, that little curled up Bohrok is adorable
This set is beautifully made and is a great piece that pays homage to a popular series. However, I don't see this actually being made. For one, the theme has been dead/dormant for a while now. So much so that many current Lego fans may have no idea of what Bionicle is or the history behind it. What makes Ideas sets great are their appeal, more often than not the appeal of the sets goes beyond just Lego fans. This is one of those themes that, those that don't know would look at it and say it's really weird, and wouldn't understand it at all. I can't really see Lego wanting to produce a set with such limited appeal, that would also require several unique parts. Plus, as we've all seen, Ideas submissions often undergo several changes for a lot of reasons. If this was approved, the final product would be quite different, and thus the spirit of the submission would be lost.
It's a great set that shows just how amazing fans can be with their building, but the appeal is a little too niche I think.
Fantastic, would love to see it pass!
The Takanuva and Tahu minifigures are superb, I'd like to see them included, too. :)
If it passes the review, oh wow, it would be amazing
I would love this
Congrats on your 10k. My feeling was that the niche for such a model is too small, but I'm wrong about plenty of things. Surely it's an awesome love letter to Bionicle for those who like that sort of thing.

Really hope it gets made into a set. Is that silver Chima sword still in production? I hope so because this image proves that it is a great stand-in for Mata Nui's sword. Overall these minifigures look awesome, though of course Lego would dial back the details. Still, it's amazing how many uses that comic book Iron Man mask has or can have.
One thing of note too... Joey Tribbiani and Ross Geller in Friends had a few of the 2001 Bionicle sets in their apartments in later seasons of the show.
So if this project gets approved we'll have a Lego Ideas set which is based on a Lego theme that appeared in a TV show that inspired another Lego Ideas set...
I am still amazed how well thought all designs and prints are!
I’ve just noticed the eye slit on toa mata nui is the outline of his original form
@Norikins: Bonkle
But in all seriousness, even though I eagerly added my vote for this, I'm not holding my breath on whether it'll pass review. If it does, and becomes a set, great, I'll buy it! If not, it'll be a shame, but not the end of the world.
Bionicle should be construction. I'd prefer Seinfeld over this.
@ALFIE22 Where have you been? haha
I was keeping out an eye for if Brickset covered this reached 10K but completely missed the actual article!
I really hope this passes the review. We need something for BIONICLE's 20th (which'll also be Ninjago's 10th) and this is a pretty good example.
