~Big ol' jet airliner,
don't carry me too far away~
A simple but elegant set. The highlight is the coloured stripe. I built one from pieces in my collection and Bricklink. A much more practical toy than the large airliners that came later.
Ah, the beauty of planes circa 85-97
The minifigs only fit inside if they raise their arms like they’re flailing in terror.
I miss this style of plane, so much.
Just love those planes. This has lots of room for luggage too.
I wasn't into Town sets back then but I still got a few that I liked. This is one of them.
This set instantly made me think of "Jet Airliner" by Modern Talking.
It was one of my dreams come true when I was a kid. I remember going to the toy shop and see this set together with the airport 6392. My parents bought me this jet liner but never got the airport.
Anyway my minifigs had the chance to travel abroad with this cute plane.
I still have it (the original one) and after more than 25 years I got the airport MISB as a gift from my LUG when I finished my LEGO Ambassador period. The circle was closed and now my jet liner can take off and land in the Town airport :)
A great set.
I got this for my birthday in 1985 (when, at the time, I thought that I might be a bit too old to be getting Lego!!!)
Little did I know I’d still have it 24 years later, and I’d be buying far more Lego than I ever did as a kid!!!!
Similar here. One of my favorite sets from my childhood. Pity I didn't get the airport as well back then. Such a great set.
At last, a random set that I actually own! Got this when I was about 7 (I'm 41 now), talk about nostalgia. This post made my day.
I always wanted one of the town planes, but never had one as a kid. Fast forward to present day. I was completely thrilled to find out in my wife’s LEGO collection, she had this AND the airport! Love these sets!
I completely forgot about it, but I had this set! I loved it!
Love the "4-wide" airplanes like this one, much easier to play with and display than the modern big ones. We all know it's not the right size for an airliner or even a business jet, but it's "LEGO-scale" and looks just fine among its contemporary Town sets. Of course, once you set up 20+ runway and taxiway baseplates, your airport is going to cover a lot of space even at this scale...
Dad was a pilot, so we had all these sets growing up. Still have them all today, only missing the ultra-rare promos like the Emirates Airliner set (I'll probably never get that one...).
One of the first sets I bought as a kid. I remember calling it "Zakkenvliegtuig" (Dutch name was Zakenvliegtuig). Silly six year old me :P
Ah yes, one of my first sets. I abused it so much I could rebuild it only after discovering Bricklink...
Ah, memories. If only I hadn't sold it and the rest of my Lego to the kid down the street for $30...
Stunning plane - always preferred this dc- 9 to its dc-8 sibling that came with the airport. Colour scheme helps and easier to whoosh without knocking the engines off. Loved the luggage space in the back too. Lucky to have these two sets - golden age!!
Those sets always have more appeal to me then those prefab cockpits and very studless designs they use nowadays.
The Spiderman far from home airplane had a good look going for it with a lot of studs on the wings, but still too many specialized pieces and reliance on stickers for windows.
Honestly, these planes are perfection.
I didn't have this one, but I had one that came with an airport with the same build.
I played for hours with that thing, but that would be nostalgia talking.
But my son has now discovered it as well and despite having more modern (and if you ask me cooler) airplanes, he and his friends keep grabbing back to this old thing.
It's amazing.
Love this plane, I remember getting it as a gift and having a lot of fun with it. It had a lot of play possibilities.
I received this set as a present on the way to visit my brand new sibling in hospital - apparently once I found out that I had a baby brother instead of the sister I had been promised, I retreated under the bed to build and play with this. I still have it today (and the brother, who I eventually warmed to)
