“Aw great. He grappled my leg with a rope. Too bad I can’t escape now I’m doomed. Not that I could use my flame thrower to burn the rope or anything”
Spoilers: The machine you get for getting 100% in the old Robot Chronicles game.
Lego really struggles with knees.
I remember getting this set as a Christmas present, some years past. As evil Lego giant robots go? It wasn't a bad one.
Never owned this set, but it played a memorable role in my childhood...
Anyone remember "My Lego Network?" It was sort of a "social network" on Lego.com in the mid-to-late 2000s where kids could design their page, give each other "clicks" and earn items & badges. It also featured NPC pages for characters from other Lego themes, and you could do tasks to earn special badges from them, along the way discovering a little storyline/campaign.
Anyway, they had a crossover storyline between Lego Agents and Lego Racers. It featured an online racing game, which culminated with your racecar having to outrun Dr. Inferno (piloting this set's robot and throwing fireballs at you) and get him to fall into a trap. I remember spending hours trying to beat all the levels in that game so I could have all the badges displayed on my page. I guess looking back, My Lego Network was kind of a silly idea, but if you were a kid Lego fan in the 2000s, it was all the rage.
Oh my god, this was one of my first System sets! We got it on a trip to the Mall of America.
Dr. Inferno's hair was rubber and the printing was so bad. It flaked off pretty quickly.
My brother and I would make all sorts of adventures with the civilians... good times...
The recent Creator 3-in-1 2019 Underwater Robot is a bit like this but smaller.
One of the sets that helped bring me out of my Dark Ages. I don’t buy very much Lego, but every year I try to get a few sets that really stand out to me. This one helped kick off that trend.
@GSR_MataNui I had a Dr. Inferno minifig too (from the Mobile Command Center set) and his orange hair printing peeled off too! I ended up giving it to a friend who thought the "new" solid black look made it look more Manga.
Picked this one up in a small collection that was being sold off, along with a bucket of loose parts, Gorzan's Gorilla Striker, and The Zombies from Monster Fighters.
Robo Attack is a decent mech. The circular shins are a little unusual, but you can see what they were going for with overall round theme, especially with the fantastic bubble cockpit. The "flambe" setting on the flamethrower is fun. Even though it's ten years old, it still holds up pretty well to today's mechs. There are certainly a lot of them to compare it to.
This set is also the one and only appearance of the "Hunter S. Thompson head", number 87023.
Oh boy, this is one of my favourite sets that I never owned. I was only getting City of Creator sets at this point in my childhood, but this was one I really wanted. I will find it someday.
Others were the Battle of Endor from 2009 and some of the Indiana Jones sets.
Holy cow this set is ten years old already?!?
Man time flies. It’s still menacing my town from a volcano base that’s mysteriously sprouted behind Green Grocer.
But I bet this set is one reason why modern LEGO mechs don’t have knees. It very quickly was unable to support its weight and has for YEARS now been stuck in a position very much like the first Hulkbuster armor.
Agents is a fantastic theme! This here, while being good fun overall, is far from the best set in that theme ;)
Ha I was sorting my Lego cupboard yesterday, and I literally held this set MISB in my hand. Still love that canopy.
Oh yeah... remember that time when LEGO Mechs used to be interesting?
Love this set! So much articulation, and really nailed the mad scientist vibe. Still one of my favorite mechs!
Love this set! Still on display in my glass cabinet. Love the kind of 50's vibe it has. My Dr Inferno's hair still has his orange stripes intact! He makes the perfect Mad Scientist. The mini Agents jet fighter with front swept wings and those turbine thingys at the back is quite nice too.
That's no knee! That's a battle station!
Maybe it’s just me but LEGO seems to be very good at coming up with appealing original IP.
First set I remember buying on my own I went to Toys R Us with $50 but it was priced at $60, and I had to beg my parents to pay the unanticipated $10 extra. Boy have things changed. No Toys R Us and buying directly from Lego is often more expensive. It was the only Agents 2.0 set I acquired new and bought every other Agents set used later, but then the dog chewed rare expensive minfigures, Claw-dette, Slime Face, and the glow in the dark octopus. I really hate the dog.
This theme had sets with an incredible design.
