Orange Classic Space minifigure coming soon!
Posted by CapnRex101,
Amazon UK has published an image of the approaching LEGO Minifigure: A Visual History book. The book itself certainly looks interesting, featuring many of the most popular minifigures ever produced, but I expect the minifigure on its cover will prove even more exciting!
Classic Space astronauts have already appeared in red, white, yellow, black, blue, green and pink but they have not been produced in orange before. This exclusive minifigure will be available with the book from the 1st of October and can be pre-ordered in the UK now.
Are you looking forward to another colour for the Classic Space astronaut? Let us know in the comments and view the whole cover after the break.

Any colour please. Classic Space is always welcome.
2020, I'm ready for you!
Yup. But not for £30... will probably wait until it shows up for a significant discount as these hardback lego books tend to do!
(Also cover is weird, helmet and jetpack look 3D printed, or perhaps just painted for a mock up).
Yet another "classical" spaceman and no space theme. Noice.

almost looks like a deliberate orange-peel effect, given all the dimples!
1st of October??
BUT WE NEED IT NOW
Iv got one say to this...
“Shut up and take my money lego”
Also the helmet looks like a texture of an orange!
Oooh, just need purple to have the whole rainbow going on!
Oh my. Can't wait to find this book in "The Works" at a sensible price.
I live near a Whsmith clearance outlet store. For sale - loads of these DK Lego books with the minifigs missing. Orange Space Guy is practically screaming "steal me". Not a sensible way to sell limited edition minifigs IMHO!!
I'm so tired of these kind of books! They are ridiculously expensive and we don't need them but they always throw in some kind of exclusive figure to get people to buy this. I'd rather pay 30$ for 2 or 3 good books than this piece of crap
The close up of the helmet and backpack makes it look like they are made of orange peel
I love this. And I can't wait for dark grey version. Or maybe even vibrant coral or teal...
That's just mean.
As incredibly-frustrating as this gimmick is ... damn it, I want one.
Wow I commented on the Best Figure of 2019 article that I liked the Pink one to go with the Green and Classic colours, and said something like in 2020 Orange please...... what are the chances...... :-)
So what profession would the orange colour represent, crash testing I presume?
I think I would pay 100 EUR if an official, (VIP) space squad set with Chrome Gold, Chrome Silver, Chrome Black and Trans-Clear spacemen was made... So if the orange colour remains exclusive to this book and I found it for 50% off, I would buy it even considering the inferior quality these book-additions often turn out to be.
A must buy! Love the chance to add more colours to my 1970s collection of classic Space sets.
But we still need the new helmet in black, red and green!
Definite need on this one. Dark red would be welcome too.
Is there a reasoning to these colors? Do they do certain jobs like the blue medical and sciences of Star Trek?
Wouldn’t be the first time I bought something for just a figure. Lego movie and figure “bundle”. Supergirl in Lego Dimensions (worth it in my opinion). Deadpool’s helicopter. That Marvel Heroes game with the Iron Patriot.
It’s a shame the green classic Spaceman came with a modern helmet. This orange one will look good with my Benny’s Space Squad - at least those have the right shape helmet even if the chin guard has been beefed up somewhat
Cool
£30 for a book and a figure yikes, gonna have to wait for this to hit Homesense or T.K.Maxx as they both price their LEGO books reasonably.
Though I did just get a £35 LEGO Star Wars book from HMV for £7.99 though I doubt they'd have this though.
Welp, might just finally bite on one of these.
You think October is soon?
Will certainly get me this book once it gets a little more affordable. Then again, these books always get much cheaper after a while. Love any colour of Classic Space Minifig.
Yes, it's fuelled by a heap of nostalgia, but so what? We live in such cynical times, a heap of nostalgia now and then for some warm and fuzzy feelings seems like a good thing to me!
I got some Figure books in the past, I do hope this means more then just 1 classic figure is returning.
I can understand this being exclusive as it's a new non-classic color but still nice.
At the very least a re-issue of red/blue/black spaceman, and not in some pack like the 2012 Toys R US exclusive (which didnt have 2019 helmets obviously)
Pink was nice to get in 2019 via a small set, as well as the classic white and yellow.
But Red, Blue and Black were in many sets back in the 80s , so would be nice to get another space squad like set, instead of just putting random parts in sets like the blue helmet in a Ninjago set.
Orange Classic Spaceman yes! USD30 no. But then again the book might be worth a read. This news though is just2meh.
Cool book and minifigure!
This is a too cheap way to make a demanded minifig. Recoloring the classic space fig is not too creative.
Orange is my favorite color!!!
Also, where's @TransNeonOrangeSpaceman ???
Come on Amazon pre-sale price being as low as some of the previous books. I can't build an army at normal book prices :/
@ArielHairRaph, there was no story material back then, so they were whatever you wanted them to be. They were most likely inspired by Star Trek though. The Futuron range seems to be an evolution of the Classic Space range when it comes to figures, and those zippers seem familiar...
Personally I liked to think that they were either subdivisions, specific units, or perhaps different nations or continents. In the latter case that would mean that all of humanity would be working together in harmony on exploring the cosmos or something.
If the price allows it, I will Bricklink the figure. I doubt it will go for 30!

Looks spray painted to me. My guitars have that texture before wet sanding.
Finally! I want it soooo much!
Obviously the next color of Classic Space we need is purple, but here's a few other things we could do with to have them all the same style:
Red and Black in the Benny Space Squad style
A BSS helmet in green
A more cohesive way to build a modern blue one
Of course you could also just have all your spacemen wear different helmets and have slightly different torso prints but I like consistency.
I know a friend of mine who is returning from his Dark Ages and is a fan of Classic Space who will love this.
I just saw this on AFOLs of Facebook. I didn't read the discussion. Odd that soon is October :P

The minifigs look like Teletubbies, the vehicles are blocky and awkward, and it didn't really introduce new parts. I guess the it's made iconic by simple design of the minifigs, innovative for it's time theme, and pretty good play value (Spaceships! in Space! Swooshing around! Lasers! PEWPEWPEW! WEEE!), additionally sprinkled with a heap of nostalgia..."
Classic Space was pioneering in several ways. It was one of the earliest dedicated themes (a contrast to the more general "basic" style buckets largely available at the time), it was one of the earliest series of sets that included vehicles and playsets designed with the LEGO minfigure in mind, and it actually did introduce many of the the bracket, hinge and other "spacey" parts that are still in circulation today. It also helped that the late 70s and early 80s was a time when space exploration was still a big part of the public consciousness and kids' imaginations.
I wish LEGO would make a Classic Space People Pack akin to the Ninjago Gamer's Market: 9 minifigures (rainbow + black and white), a robot, a rover, a spaceship, and a station.
I don't know how popular it would be with kids but AFOLs would BUY! BUY! BUY!

WHS often sells books like this at a significant discount just before Christmas. Wouldn't surprise me if you could pick it up for £15 or even £10.

It's definitely a mock-up of the cover. It even says 'Not finally approved by licensor [i.e. LEGO]. For sales purposes only.' The copyright date is 2019. If it were final, it would be 2020.

The yellow one with the CS tattoo across his chest is the nudist :~D . Not sure how he survives in space but given that none of the CS spacemen have visors, I think we can hand-wave the little issue of non-atmospheric exposure.
Looks like his helmet and air tank are hammertone powder coat
Nope, couldn't care less about an orange spaceman. Nothing 'classic' about it.

Raised in the late 90s/early 00s, this is exactly it. I'm very much a minimalist who came to miss blocky LEGO and simple minifig designs so despite my age the same appeal still works on me to some degree, despite the fact I generally collect modern licensed themes which are practically the exact opposite of those principles.
It's clear there's a huge love for Classic Space and all the recent CS stuff (anything with Benny, the Exosuit, etc...) has sold well. They keep throwing us little bones--but come on, give us an actual theme! It's so close--even the City spaceport stuff is kind of there. Just a little further!
I am interested in both the minifig and the book, can't wait for October!
So..... What's this minifigs "enny" name?

Do we have a Kenny yet?
'Penny'? Doesn't have to be male.
(Kenny is yellow, Jenny is white, Lenny is pink. Could be 'Denny' but I think that would be the original Red guy. Other than that, I'm out of suggestions).
@Andhe:
Resin cast, or painted, but not 3D printed. You'd see terracing near the top of the helmet if they'd done that. Well, unless they bothered to sand it away.
@Eggyslav:
No new parts? What are you talking about? Classic Space was the first Space. All of the basic Space parts that didn't come later pretty much originated with Classic Space.
@holdre007:
Food service? We still don't have one for pink, do we?
@ArielHairRaph:
Officially...no. They never released any sets that identified specialties based on spacesuit colors. However, from the LEGO Ideas blog's "The Making of the Exo-Suit" article:
"Mark told us that each of the original colors of Classic Space minifigures had a specific job: white for pilots, red for soldiers/explorers, yellow for scientists, blue for commanders and black for spies."
The idea they then had was that green would represent mech pilots, but that doesn't really work in light of the fact that they had roughly half a dozen Classic Space mechs decades before they ever made a green Classic Space minifig. My stance is that green should represent salvage, since that fits perfectly with the promotional video they released when they officially announced the finalized Exo-Suit set.
@mr_skinny:
Even Benny didn't exist when the Exo-Suit came out, right? There's no way they could have commissioned a robust chinstrap helmet for the Ideas theme, so modern it was. Orange, at the very least, has a modern helmet available, so the easiest path to uniting them all in the same style is to get a modern helmet in Lenny-pink.
@Vladtheb:
Benny is blue
Lenny is pink
Jenny is white
and Kenny...is yellow.
The only available real names that end in -enny, that I can think of, are Denny and Penny. However, there are several other options that sound fairly name-like, even if I've never heard of one landing on a birth certificate, or being a traditional nickname.
30 Quid. Probably not going to be much cheaper in USD. I suspect when it hits my Sam's Club, even with their deep discount, I won't be getting it any cheaper than $20. And really, as with the Harry Potter book I have, there isn't much more info in them than I get here. But, given Benny's Space Squad got me really hooked on Classic Space and old LEGO in general, I really, really want the the orange spaceman. But still, the book may be quite interesting.
Meanwhile, on Amazon, I can get the older version (even if the other two are a standard City fig, and a stinkin' Chima figure, and the only good one is a '70s "Townsperson" to which I can get the fig on which it was based on Bricklink for pocket change) for $20 with THREE minifigs!
Anybody else notice that the minifigures represented on the cover of the book are heavy on Ninjago, plus City, with a few CMFs thrown in?
I would’ve expected a much greater variety of themes/minifigs displayed.
@Josh_the_aquaraider
Still holding out for a Nnenny Nielson homage!

The absence of SW, Marvel, DC, HP etc minifigures on the cover (and maybe within?) is likely because of licensing.
Pre-order on amazon.de is € 24.46 at the moment.
Hello, you can also pre purchase this on Amazon in Germany. Of course I dit.
OMG take my money! Though not quite that much money; definitely going to wait for a hefty discount. But I'm glad I've waited all this time to get a minifigure guide!
