Happy Valentine's Day!

If you're looking for a last-minute gift for your LEGO-loving partner then look no further than 40379 Valentine's Bear, which is the third Valentine's BrickHeadz LEGO has released.

The cute bear, like many cuddly teddy bears, is sitting down. This is unusual for BrickHeadz.but it works well.

He's holding a heart-shaped balloon, which makes use of the new 3x3 heart-shaped plate that was introduced last year. It's a far better solution than the two stacked coupling plates used for hearts beforehand.

As is customary for seasonal BrickHeadz, an elaborate base is provided which consists of a chequered tablecloth, a honey pot with a bee buzzing around it, and a bush with heart shaped flowers.

Overall it's a cute and colourful set and one that will be adored by its recipient!

The bear joins the bee from 2018 and last year's puppy in my collection of Valentine's BrickHeadz.

Mrs Nipper got me the puppy as it was on sale and she is a cheapskate. I guess I’ll get the bear next year.

Each to their own, I personally like the coupling plates, as they represent the essence of both Lego and love, by putting two things together and gaining something more than their sum.

Nothing says 'I love you' more than the cold, dead eyes of Brickheadz.

Absolutely agree. While the overall look of the one-piece solution might appear nicer, the idea of producing yet another new part instead of using the two existing ones does seem like cheaping out, especially when, like you say, the symbolism of putting together two pieces to achieve the desired result is so fitting in this instance.

I also agree that the eyes appear too cold/eery for a Valentine gift, but they can be swapped easily enough.

^ I guess you have a point about the symbolism: two (pieces) becoming one :-)

I miss vignettes.

I do miss the vignettes, which I find far superior ... but I can't help it, I think the teddy bear is pretty cute.

I personally like the sitting down pose, because it allows for the torso to be more organically curved via that slope piece. I also agree that the coupling plates are a classic Lego symbol of love. Does the new one look better? Sure it looks a lot better, but the old design is just classic.

They really should have recolored the round plate used as a tail... :)

Mine came just in time to build and surprise my wife with Valentine's Day morning. It was a pleasant build, and I liked the sitting posture for this and the Lucky Kitty kit (which came at the same time.) I sorta agree about the 'overly' built up display, but I enjoy the tiny bee, and all the heart shaped 1x1s for future projects. It also displays nicely with the Valentine's Bee and a small seasonal MOC.
