Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 6508 Wave Racer, released in 1990. It's one of 28 Town sets produced that year. It contains 37 pieces and 1 minifig, and its retail price was US$3.
It's owned by 3802 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you might find it for sale at BrickLink or eBay.

Back when Lego was so simple, yet, so effective!
3USD? Absolutely love the 90's
Classic town. I loved this little set.
Best lifejacket design ever.
That photo was taken with the model on tinfoil right?
Is that a minifig...
in a tiny vehicle...
as a set all by itself?
2020 Huwbot is back everyone!
I love these little sets. I don't have the actual set but I managed to build it in red with my spare parts. Which is not something you can say easily for the sets of today.
This feels like a McDonalds promo.
I have this one.
A lovely era.
Loved this set! The lifejacket was awesome! No big weird parts, so it was easy to rebuild it into something else using ALL the parts.
Only to be surpassed by 6513, 3 years later. Also a hovercraft with lifejacket, but with one of the coolest minifigs ever!

Make that ~4$, no stickers and in a polybag instead of a box.
pretty sure I have this slope with '2' printed on it in my parts. Should check if I can build that one, it would still fit nicely in a nowadays harbor scene.
I remember having this one as well, though what stuck most with me is the small 1 x 2 plate used to lift the front to give the illusion of speed - and made it quite hard to attain said speed when sliding over a carpet as it would get caught on the fibers. I guess this little set was a huge incentive to develop those 2 x 2 rounded boat studs ;)
Lovely!
I bought this set in Switzerland on my only trip to the country when I was about eight. The darn rules got set on the back window of the car behind the headrests and somebody left a partial stick of butter there which melted over the rules. I still have the rules today, and they still smell like butter and are semi-transparent and waxy! Great little set though.
Interesting. I have the slope with the number on and the life jacket. They must of been in one of my charity shop finds because I don't know why I would own them otherwise.

Keep in mind that $3 in 1990 is nearly $6 now.
The return of small vehicles!

I have this.
I played with this set for soooo many hours. Often just tweaking it by doing such things like add prongs or another fan. Kid me was a genius.
Hilariously, recently my son got a bigger boat so I decided to pull out the manual to this and make a small boat. He loves this boat design to pieces for the same reasons I did. It’s so easy to customize and make “faster”
This could easily be found on the shelves as late as 1993. I had at least two. I once tried to 'sail' one of the alt builds in the bath, by hovering it above the water in my hand, I knew it wouldn't float.

I'm curious about the water too. Only ever seen that effect on a couple of boxes. I would love to recreate it.
@Bornin1980something, I reckon it’s tinfoil.

Today a set like this comes as a polybag and costs 3-5 $ like 30363
And 3$ in 1990 equals to almost 6$ in 2020.
I have it...and I like it!!
Great memories with 4 stud wide vehicles!!!
The driver looks so happy. It's adorable.
