By in United Kingdom,

Couldn't you consider the structures in the level crossing sets as signal boxes?

Gravatar
By in Finland,

2/10 I guess I know nothing about trains

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

5/10... not bad considering, I've just returned to Lego..... after more than 30 years.......

Gravatar
By in United States,

Good heavens I did awful! I thought I was pretty familiar with Lego trains, but 4/10... apparently not!

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

I have always associated that symbol with Vader Tie.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@yottabrick - I would describe those as attendant booths. Signal boxes are generally associated with points or junction networks.

@JintaiZ - I imagine it might be 'LEGO Rail Transit System' or something of that kind.

Gravatar
By in United States,

7/10 without google. One stupid mistake.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Ouch - tough!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Urm ok, wow 0/10 for me.

Am I surprised? No, not in the slightest. LEGO Trains aren't my core interest. I have two city train sets, 1 city station and 2 train track packs that my train collections which to most is tiny.

By in Portugal,

I am bad at this. 4/10

Lego Railway Train Set.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I know absolutely nothing about LEGO trains. Never owned one and have no interest in them. Still managed to get 6/10 though. What a fluke!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

3/10, whooooo! To be fair, the 3 I thought I knew were the ones I got right. Still, that means that I went 0 for 7 on guessing the remaining answers; maybe on a lucky day I could've got 5/10?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

1/10 and that was a guess. I don’t own a single train

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

@CapnRex101
Without revealing too much information, I think you should reconsider the duration of the 4.5V era.

Gravatar
By in United States,

1/10... I don't care about lego trains

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

6/10 - pretty disappointed in myself tbh. Changed my answers on the 1980s logo and Thomas the Tank Engine questions from right to wrong at the last minute, and wasn’t born until towards the end of the 9v period - I didn’t realise the 12v period was that long! 50 years on track I got confused between Airport Shuttle and Futuron Monorail...

Not happy with myself.

Gravatar
By in Norway,

1/10
I don’t do trains.
(But still I have at least 18 different trains, and 3 custom built engines - go figure!)
:-D

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

4/10...... Trains are not my thing. Super surprised that there has never been a Lego signal box (even though I got this question correct), nice raised building, windows all around, stairs to the entrance, nice pitched roof, full of levers and pulleys... It would be perfect.

By in United Kingdom,

@LAKAbricks has correctly pointed out that the information for question ten was incorrect so anyone who took the quiz before 18:37 BST can award themselves an honorary additional point!

That information and the final question have now been corrected. Thanks to @LAKAbricks for bringing this to my attention.

Gravatar
By in Austria,

6/10!

4 were errors because of dubiously formulated questions.

Gravatar
By in United States,

3/10, but I swear I was completely unaware of LEGO trains as a kid in the 1980s.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

6/10 without even thinking too hard.

I'm really into trains, though not really LEGO ones in the past. I only had 7760 back in the day plus a few pieces of track, but not even enough to test the loco. It was only when BB started offering their realistic representations of German prototypes last year that I really got into brick built trains full steam (pun not intended). And of course I ordered the Croc today first thing in the morning.

That was the only one that I got right!

By in United Kingdom,

4/10 .... I didn't realise so many trains had been produced in my dark age from 1971 - 2016!

Although I must admit that I would call 60198 Cargo Train's box with signals on a signal box!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

6/10

I'll take that

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

7/10 - I was fine until the Duplo question, had no idea about the celebration set and, having no idea what the last one was, voted for the system I liked the most rather than the correct answer ;)

Gravatar
By in United States,

9/10! Coincidentally I stumbled across the 2016 commemoration set a few days ago, so the answers to two of these were fresh in my head. The Thomas sets were in the “featured” list on the homepage this week, too, and I had coincidentally looked at them out of nostalgia... a younger member of my family had a bunch of them. And I love the reference to the operator of the actual Flying Scotsman... as always, thanks Brickset team!

Gravatar
By in United States,

@CapnRex101 - I agree on LRTS: I've always thought of it as "LEGO Railway Train System" myself. I wish I'd thought to propose that as a question for one of the designer interviews! Maybe that could be a back pocket question for the future?

@JintaiZ - It makes me sad you find the Emerald Night creepy... I think it's supposed to be stately and dignified, both as a LEGO model and as an approximation of the Flying Scotsman (which is lighter than LEGO's dark green, but far more stoic than LEGO's standard green).

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow, I love Lego Trains but I got every question wrong. You'd think I'd at least get some guesses right. I will not be playing the lottery today.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Needs more monorail!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I got 4/10. I'm not complaining.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Question 4, none of the answers are correct. The proposed answer "Signal Box"; What else would you call the structure in set 60198? It doesn't appear to have any other function, other than "signaling". LOL

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Huh; six out of ten wasn't bad, when most of those were complete guesses! Slightly over 50% is... about average for me on these quizzes, seems like ^^

The only ones I was certain of were:
- The modern Lego Rail logo, which I knew had to have been invented before a certain date because it was used in the Lego Loco PC game, rendering at least two of those answers immediately false
- The Duplo Thomas character: not that I've ever looked up the sets; but as a kid I had a ton of the Railway Series books and die-cast engines, and have recognised the characters while I've been flicking through the random set browser from time to time
And I had a feeling about question four, because I remembered seeing versions of all except one of those in Lego catalogues back in the day. The others were just guesses, educated or otherwise!

(I'd have scored one more if I'd gone with my first instinct for the European Railway branding in the 70s and 80s, too; but I changed my mind to the wrong one instead. Go me, I guess!)

Also for the record, the only Lego trains I've ever owned were the 2010 Hogwarts Express and the track buggy 2585 that came free with the afore-mentioned Lego Loco PC game. So my experience going into this was... pretty negligible! I'm surprised I scored as high as I did, honestly :D

Gravatar
By in Slovakia,

8/10 - the right quiz for a former 9V nerd like me :)

Gravatar
By in South Africa,

Wow, 10/10! Even I am surprised. The Thomas the Tank Engine question would definitely have had me stumped.

Gravatar
By in United States,

4/10, i'm happy with that, i like 'em well enough but don't really collect many of them

Gravatar
By in Canada,

6/10 and very pleased as most were guessed at. Surprises me how many people got 4/10 and even more how many people followed up their score with 'I don't like trains' or 'I'm disappointed in myself'. I love these quizzes and rarely know any of the answers to anything but they're still fun to play!

Gravatar
By in United States,

10/10 here, which is surprising for me since I only really got well-invested in Trains (and 9V ones at that!) only in the last five years. Not that I haven't desired and admired them all my life, but still. That timely upload of the Duplo Thomas Sets on the main page also helped to fill in my one blank!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

6/10 Not bad for guessing on virtually every question. Wasn't really into LEGO during the peak of LEGO trains and don't collect many of the current ones.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Yikes. 3/10. I knew only about 80ies trains. A few months ago i rebuild that 7725 (More or less) and it still works.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

8/10 on my favourite subject, along with Creator Expert scale cars

Gravatar
By in Australia,

8/10. I'm pretty happy with that.

Gravatar
By in Italy,

6/10. I flunked the ones I was totally sure about!

I better do some more homework.

The color of the train just looks creepy, and not revealing what the letters stands for makes it even more..."

The color of emerald night is creepy. In my opinion such a deep color like that gives it a sort of royal look to it.

Gravatar
By in Portugal,

5/10 without Google the quiz ahahahah

Not great, not terrible!

Some of the questions I really had no clue about the context, Thomas and friends for instance.

Oh well, my love for lego trains is 10/10 I can assure you that!

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

2\10 guesses but no trains at this station

Gravatar
By in United States,

6/10 and the only reason I got the Thomas & Friends one right was because I have a 2 year-old who LOVES that show...and I've had to go buy Harold and Gordon from eBay because they're his favorites. (My niece had Percy, so that was donated.)

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

2/10- These are fun, and I really need to improve my LEGO trivia!

Gravatar
By in Poland,

When I entered Brickset and saw the Trains logo I initially thought Lego has announced a return of the Train range and a bunch of new setsXD

Gravatar
By in Germany,

10/10
Am I to old for LEGO ?
damned....

Gravatar
By in Germany,

3/10 I had hoped I was better. But I'm just 36 and trains weren't never one of the things I wanted. I'm more a modelteam/creator/Technic Big car and truck model fan. At least I had seen some og these models in the flesh. Guess I should read cataloges more often ;)

Gravatar
By in Germany,

The official meaning of LRTS is "LEGO Railway Train System" and it has been revealed in the "Help Topics" on the consumer service pages back at the time when set 10194 was available.

9/10 - The Duplo answer was pure luck but I confused the airport shuttle from 40290 with the space monorail from 4002016...

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

2/10
Oof, in my defense I only have one train set. After I finished I looked up the answers and most of these sets came out waaay before I got into LEGO or before I was even born. Some of these I haven't even seen before. At least I learned something today.

Gravatar
By in United States,

5/10 isn't bad for someone who knows very little about Trains. Three I knew that answers to. Didn't so well on the rest, 2/7. I would narrow it down two answers, I so had a 50-50 chance.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

In the UK at least a box at a level crossing traditionally also controlled signals protecting that crossing. They're signal boxes, always referred to as such here.

Gravatar
By in United States,

10/10. Ironically, the 2 answers I was unsure about were the year and the item never produced.

Henry was easy for some reason.

Gravatar
By in United States,

7/10 .... A duplo train question? Really?

Gravatar
By in United States,

5/10. I would say it's not half bad, except for, well, it is.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

6/10 - more than I expected only being on board the 9V era trains!

Again, this is always a lot of fun, thanks a lot for this!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

8/10, I love Lego trains, didn't have a clue about the Thomas sets though!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

3/10

"Less than half of what I'd hoped for"

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

7/10.

Should have done better, since I am a fan of Lego trains, but a good quiz nonetheless
